Any upcoming ships?

This is the Christianus sixtus - the vessel which is beeing developed right now and which might be within the next few patches. A 90 gun vessel of the early 1800. 36/18/12/6pd cannons. The first true 2nd rate we will have ingame.

This beauty will be coming soon, and I can't say how happy I'll be to have a real 2nd rate around. A proper three decker. Beyond that, I can't say with any surety.

I'm going to ask a stupid question here, but is the wasa the 17th century ship? Isn't that like, seriously out of the timeline?

The Wasa is an open secret anyways.

*time until slipping: the time needed from laying down the keel until the ship is slipped into the water. After beeing slipped the carpenters will have to complete the planking above the waterline and building the intereur of the vessels as well as the rigging.

The initial armament consisted of 26 x 24pd guns, 26 x 18pd guns and 8 x 6pd guns.
The navy later upgunned many ships (not all because of the lack of ressources) to a 26 x 36pd, 26 x 24pd, 8 x 6pd armament.

 

Note that the plans show 5 gunports on the quarterdecks whereas all records talk about 8 guns on the QD. Not sure how the game will handle that. Also these vessels feature two dedicated 6pd chase guns on the forecastle. Also note that the swedish artillery pound was lesser than others. (mainly to prevent the russians to use the swedish guns) Given these figures in here are correct her armament correlated to: 36pd(swe) = 33,75pd(brit) -- 24pd(swe) = 22,49pd(brit) -- 6pd(swe) = 5,6pd(brit)

Ingame that could translate into 32 / 24 / 6 [pd]

 

She is Chapmans greatest victory over traditional shipbuilding. This vessel was designed in competition against another shipbuilder and the Wasa was found to be superior in many ways. higher gunports, very good saiing and maneuvering. And Chapman build crew friendly ships. In term of space that is.

Thank god it's not the one that flipped. We've gotten convoy escort ship which has quickly become the best choice for a fireship due to its inadequacies as a warship, and now imagine a poorly built (albeit pretty) ship that foundered 1300 meters into its maiden voyage in a light gust of wind.

I blame it all on the dutch person which were the head of construction.

 

The Wasa is a very pretty ship, so it Christian VII :)

^ I would've loved to see the designated ship module being reworked to represent a 17th century fireship. Meaning you would ahve to 'prep' the fire, similar to the current boarding prep. As soon as your prep reaches 80-90 or so, your ship starts to burn. Besides this, it should allow your to bump, sail next to, or similar to boarding grapple the enemy when he is slow enough.

Fires do sail damage, spread easily, we have the mechanical basics that are needed for such a rework, which would make fireships more enjoyable imo.

(Also means that big ships once of ire can toggle survival on/off, but once turned off you can never turn it back on and your crew starts to abandon ship, meaning handling would get much harder pretty fast.)

Interestingly enough, the Dutch on multiple occasions removed the guns, but replaced them with painted wooded replica's.

Effectively making them indistinguishable for the rest.
