Grundgemunkey
I understand why we need Freeports spread around the map .. but they are currently just ganking capitals ... a ship can just sit on the dock waiting for a trader to appear either incoming or outgoing and attack ... even in the most savage of recent wars neutrality of freeports was strictly adhered to and no warship was allowed to leave port within 24 hrs of an enemy ship leaving that port . .. the graf spee incident been a good example I would suggest that upon undocking from a freeport the timer is extended from 20 seconds ..to two minutes ,before it can attack ,, therefore any ship that leaves port has the option to return to safety of the port if an enemy warship appears behind them .. or enter a port if an enemy undocks as they are arriving .. also there should be a maximum time you are allowed to sit at the dock without sailing 2 mins again would be ok ..longer than this and you are automatically returned into the port.... currently all a warship has to do to to avoid been tagged is sit on the dock and if tagged by enemy return to port this will make freeports truly neutral ... as no nation would allow a freeport ..to remain neutral in their territory if it was been used freely as an enemy outpost Edited February 9, 2017 by Grundgemunkey
Grundal
seems like a good idea. I worry about the impact on hunters and limiting their pvp. Petrus hangs at LR, Saint Mary's and CayB all the time. Frigate with 2 surp fleet. What would he do then if this occurred? I believe you idea has a lot of merit. Guest
This is probably the only situation where I actually quite like the AI fleets - their presence makes a freeport's existence aligned with whomever holds the nearby regions, so for the sake of safety as a trader it's quite easy to hang back until any supporting AI fleet shows up to escort you in/out. And then there are other freeports which are further away from civilization or in contested areas that thus become riskier places to operate in. When (if ) AI fleets and/or forts are reduced, then sure, sounds good. But until that happens, well, sounds like another nail in the OW PvP coffin.
