Test event changes.

Recommended Posts

Chest weigt of 2500 has 2 consequences:

1) new players are unable to get a chest, they dont have LGV or Indiaman yet.

2) nobody races for just 2 chests unless the loot quality has significantly improved.

Ill test it once, but if again there is nothing interesting in the chests, im out for further events of this type. Paint, upgrades, labor contracts and notes are not exactly interesting rewards for a max ranked player.

Officer hold perk allows for a traders brig to carry the one chest.

you can sail anything if you own it

free reset and every rank can capture a traders brig

Main problem we see is if the timings will be the same ruling out everyone outside of european timezone.

You combat ship will then board at least one of those unprotected vessels on the way back.

What is the point? there is no warship in the game that can fit a chest.

You board a trader and then have to leave the chest in the battlescreen loot lol...

Now if only there was a system where you can 'give' capped ships to groupmembers (while still in battle)

And your combat ship in fleet? that's a good way to lose your ship... fleet Ai is fully retarded

what do you mean. you don't have to leave anything

switch to a trader - add a combat ship to fleet. Sail the trader back. Ask friends to help you get it back safely.

Imagine I am in a fighting ship and I board one of the lucky merchant and he has a chest... I won't be able to take it in my hold... It kinds of kill the reward of fighting it beside knowing that nobody will get what is inside.

Sometimes you steal the gold from the other side.  Sometimes you have to be happy just denying him the gold and sending it under the waves.

War.

Doesn't seem like the devs have listened to much of the critique but rather to the yes-men.. Prepare I'm afraid for another failed event..

PvE servers really don't get much out of this event, for them it will be a waste of time.

PvP servers - the devs "anticipate" a certain player behavior but as we have seen in the two previous events ppl doesn't necessarily behave rationally - and doesn't get rewarded for doing so since all the chests get looted by those nations with OP nearby.. I hold my breath but again I think I'll sit this one over.. Wether ppl in my clan will keep playing after another day of frustration and timewasting is another matter.

A new player can request the ship from some rich guy and sail it with 40 crew - or capture a gross venter from NPCs for free

trader brig with a perk can do it too..

what are you talking about?

also

just got it in the email

I returned home today and discovered the event was yesterday.  I know this is unlikely but, if there is anyway you could give me any one of the event BP's I would greatly appreciate it.

giving everyone a chance to capture him as a result right? Or favoring an organized escorted group as intended.

the real event that finally requires people to escort traders.

Question about the event, or rather the communications related to the event. (Don't wanna be edited for straying away from topic)

What is the point made by the marked section? How does that relate to the failed events of the past two weeks? And is there a reason admin finds it necessary to mock some (thankfully) unnamed player? And is it really on topic? Can admin edit themselves?

Answers long overdue..

Erm, why is everyone so aggravated. Chests will drop great loot, ok. Chests will also drop BPs, ok. They said BPs will be obtainable through other ways as well later on.

I personally don't plan on doing the event. I am not in a big clan and in the time that would take me to decipher where will it be, sail there, try to grab a chest, try to run away, high possibility of getting killed, spending waaaaaay to much time in battles trying to escape, etc I will rather earn gold and just buy those things later without a hassle.

OK. Here is the hint from me how to make your event work 100% as you want

When the player grabs Deadman's Chest, there should be a marker updating every few minutes with his location and nationality on the map. You will get real PvP then. Whole fleets will try to get that person and his friends will try to escort and protect him. Otherwise it will be only looking for a needle in a haystack combined with grab n' run. Also if you can, disable for player and option to logout from the game if he carries the Deadman's Chest (if it's not already done)

No. It won't make it work 100% as the Dev's want, because the "searching for a needle in a haystack" approach is the realistic approach, and what the Dev's have intended all along.

There is a PVP element to the game, but forcing PVP, in every situation, has never been what the Dev's intended.

The Dev's have created an open world environment in which players can trade, raid and engage in combat, but it is up to the players, and their use of strategic planning and positioning of assets, to force the PVP, by locating, closing with and engaging the enemy.

If the Dev's had wanted it to be all PVP all the time, we would be playing in ridiculously small arena type maps, like those in use in World of Warships, where real tactical skill is not utilized or needed, just the best upgrades, perks and the most XP, and a little help from the RNG gods.

And with these Naval Action events, being able to get to the wreck, pick up the loot, and escape with it, also requires pre-planning and positioning of assets, in order to enable your escape with the loot. Having a map indicator that marks the loot carriers position would make escaping nearly impossible, and not to mention unrealistic.

No GPS locators in early 1800's nor radios for spy's to rapidly give location updates on enemy ships.

Another suggestion is to introduce different types of chests and keys that will open them. By introducing keys you can eliminate chest rarity. You can mark chests as: common, gold plated, rusted etc... and you can now drop as many as you want with actual historical chest weight. What will be difficult to find are keys that will open each chest (each chest will have it's own key). So, now players will be able to collect few chests with different rewards and then look forward to something new that will give away the keys.  ;) To make players happy 1 random key will drop during shipwreck retrieval.

Interesting idea, but it would only make the event more complicated than it is. Adding too many requirements will only make such events more cumbersome, and thus discourage even more from participating. Let's not overcomplicate it. The central concept is arrive with the right assets, get the loot, and get away with it.

Not that it will matter in any way possible but seeing as forum should be a free exchange of ideas i will add my opinion.

As an early pre-steam "Sea trials" (two years ago) backer of this game i am not happy. As an all-around-jack-of-all-trades casual player this game offers little for me in

content department. It's fine, game is still in early development and at this rate it still will be next two years into the future (probably even more).

My problem is the constant and neverending dev focus on pure pvp hard core crowd that are in fact a minority of those that bought this game.

I would not mind as i am a pvp oriented player as well but would it hurt to throw a bone or a cookie here and there to the "filthy casuals"? I guess so...

With that said we come to the "event"!

It's was envisioned as a pure pvp activity, only it backfired badly. Third iteration is even worse as it fits only strong and numerous clans or nations who can field a good number of

players filling the roles of scout, fighter and trader.

Devs openly stated this as fact and how every game out there has type oriented events not applicable to all players. Fine, but "other games" have a plethora of other

content or events done in different manner of execution so every player no matter his preferred playstyle can participate.

Dev's it's your game and i guess this is your vision of it, very well. However this vision might get you to the dead end street as die hards are small in number and large

majority are casuals. Pander and love your diehards as much as you want but casuals are your bread and butter. If steam release was any indicator of future and constant playerbase drops,

it seems that large crowds have some issues regarding this game making them quit very early never to return. I find this fact problematic. Game with a very low player retention (early access or not) is indicating a problem.

Creating a event aimed precisely at one group of players in a game with a heavy lack of content (outside constant pvping) is not a way to go and no wonder that players are

up in arms regarding it. I write this meaning well with a hope of NA becoming the most popular Age Of Sail game on the market and at the end it's my 2 cents.

Are even better have your board fit trader that didn't get a chest board him and take the chest.  Than you send his old ship back home and continue on your fleet way with protection of your buddies.

You know you CAN give a captured trader to a group member while in the same battle? That ability exists now. As does taking command of the trader vessel yourself, providing you have enough crew left, to sail off with the chest.

The admin was making the point that some players feel entitled to the new bps and other event rewards. Based on your previous post suggesting your entire clan might quit playing IF they are frustrated without gains at the next event. So is it relative to the discussion? Based on your own posting it appears that you and/or your clan share a certain feeling of entitlement to event rewards so then yes it is.

I don't believe that I have said much about the rewards in the event. The mainstay of my criticism of the event goes to the point that this event is an unimaginary timesink that leaves players unengaged, uninspired and there's really no sense of accomplishment in the event. Those I've been talking to and trying to appeal to their patience all ask the same questions about the event. Where's the fun in sailing for hours for an event that is over in the matter of minutes? Where's the novelty in the event? - It's just another bottlehunt on a slightly larger scale. Actually the event rewards comes a rather long way down the list of aggrievances to the event. Everyone can decipher the clues and that kills the sense of the treasurehunt - and so does the marking on the map. The events random generator favors the major nations and actually hurts any chance of developing PvP in the future - Many players are simply rerolling toons to the major nations, brits in particularly. This leaves the minor nations with dwindling playerbases, ressources and - let's be frank - content. I don't really interpret the admins posting as a point towards playersense of "entitelment" (which is a rather strange phrasing seen as even thos actually getting chests have complained about the rewards) but rather as a juvenile attempt at dividing players between those who can participate in the event and i.e. belongs to the major nations, and those who don't belong to the major nations and therefore doesn't really have a chance in this type of event.. I've been looking at logins for the past two weeks and unless I read the numbers wrong the game has lost 200 players in two weeks or about 10-15% of it's playerbase. I'm concerned for the viability of this game in the long run and this event just seems to aggrevate already existing problems with ingame balancing.

Same can't co on saturday.

On rust, there is dayli event. A plane carry cargo and drop it on the map somewhere. People are able to see it sicne a long time before it drop cargo.

Then people have choice:

- Moving for loot

- Moving for pvp

- Moving to find dead bodys and loot them

- Stay away

The cargo is good, wome weapon, some craft stuff and some bp. There is one plane per IG day making them appearing once an hour.

This system mke noone angry as it's random and everywhere. Sometimes it appear and you are free and want to go on it and sometimes you are busy and prefer to continue doing somethign else. They key is that it'snot forcing anyone.

I'm pretty sure that if you remove exeptionnal item form this event really few people will join it because organising something to finalley loot wreck when you may have pvp is boring.

Why to not make it every day with minor loot but maybe this rare ingredient 'tea/iberian meat/french wine etc). The players around will have something to do. The one far awya will continue to play normaly.

It will add content ingame withotu creating frustration for thoses who can't be there on saturday becase they have family/job/others things to do the week end.

This event is just one type of the events planned to be introduced over time. This is not a solo event. Its not for everyone. It requires some coordination. Even WOW had raids requiring 25 players to actively coordinate for several hours and receive nothing (due to others rolling need). Those who feel its a waste of time can do other things like capture ports, gank, craft, trade or fight in a tournament. We are working on adding things to do every month.

Not everyone should like things other players like.

The answer to rage is simple - wait for the events for you. If someone loves this event it will stay in game. And we know there are people who are happy about it.

I like the event but as I am in Australia it is at a ridiculous hour I have not experienced it yet.

Wish the bottles where like this instead.

I feel you.  I'm in Thailand the last event was 11 pm this one hits me at 12:40 am.  I have kids, I'm not staying awake all night again for this next one.  Let's hope my clannies have better luck this time.

I see what you are saying but I am not sure this one event is that much of a problem. During last weeks event we had a few hours of PvP at and around the site of the event. None of us got a chest but we hunted and got hunted several times and had fun. I do agree the clues are a bit easy and I think the wrecks should be linearly spread out. But it is a work in progress.

It does, in fact, favor the larger nations that are simpler to play. I agree. But again, I am not sure that is a ad thing and it is just this one style of event. I like diversity in the nations. When I first joined the game it listed some nations as hard, others easier and moderate difficulty. I quickly found this not to be the case. Resources were so available and the nations tech identical that in truth all the nations were equal. Only player population created an element of ease or difficulty of play. Brits has the population and so were likely easy to play. When everyone could hop to pirate with all their gear they were just as easy to play when population was high. This event does seem designed to favor easier hi pop nations. I don't see anything wrong with that as long as there will be future events for the smaller and more difficult nations to play.

I believe as this game unfolds we will naturally see players gravitate to specific teams that will naturally create easier nations and more difficult nations to play. Trying to force a balanced situation could be like shoving square pegs through round holes or herding cats. The players themselves will likely be the undoing. However, if the devs go with it instead of fighting it and promote natural divisions of easy vs hard nations to play players will go to the style nation they like. What do we care if Britain and France become powerhouse easy nations to play (example) and Demmark is smaller and harder to play. It just means Denmark captains will become known as tough sea fighters able to best equal numbers of Brits and French. To be allied to Denmark will become a goal of nations wanting the best fighters on their side. To assume the game will and must always be equally balanced is an unlikely and frustrating dream.

There was a time when we only had a cutter and HMS victory in testing, some content was missing but it did not matter long term. We have said multiple times that there will be other ways to obtain those BP.

The fact that we are testing events now and how we do it has no influence on the long term conquest mechanics, especially knowing that ports will reset by end of september + will be reset again on release of the game.

pve server will have to wait for the AI fleets in the future Captain. For PVE server it is an Indiaman race event :) now.

Indiaman prep'd and in good sailing order.
