freddykrueger66
Just put some furled sails on her and baked out some ambient occlusion, think she's done for now unless I decide to sculpt a figurehead which would make it complete though... got more final renders on my artstation for the people who are interested: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/3aZ2D
Chimera
Please do the figurehead. For me that is a vital part of a ships "character" Like the "grumpy lion" on the ingermanland in game. I absolutely love that thing ;-)
Mirones
WHy not giv this a try you can fill out the coat of arms with what ever you want
BungeeLemming
Why doesnt he made a model closer to reality so devs will have zero problems adding it to the game? what do you mean? He uses original plans and references. How much closer to reality can he possibly get? If you mean Mirones' reply. That was a suggestion.
mikawa
Chapeau! This ship really looks great!!!
Gonzo38
Wow, what a nice work. I would say "chapeau" !
Ned Loe
Beautiful frigate, but I don't think she would have the cabin on the quarterdeck in wartime. You can see that 4 guns on the quarterdeck would be unusable. It was not uncommon for warships to have additional structures for crew comfort on weather decks in peacetime. Also ruins her beauty! 4? Agree, that cabin looks ugly and would get blown to pieces during battle. Please get rid of it. Everything else is gorgeous.
Malachi
Mon dieu, where´s le capitaine supposed to sleep then? On a more serious note, if there´s a poop deck cabin on the plan, please keep it on the model.
VonBarb
She's a beaut, with or without the poopdeck cabin. With Golden sides she might even challenge the Belle Poule Hope this one makes it into the game !
freddykrueger66
thnx, I might make a sculpt for the figurehead in the coming months but I'm not rushing it at all. Sent it to be reviewed and have taken a break from it for now. Let's hope for the best hehe.

freddykrueger66
Concerning ship modeling I'm gonna wait a bit and see what happens with the devs but in the meantime I'm making pieces for my portfolio. I'm modeling a WW2 mp40 atm which is coming along nicely hehe.

maturin
For game purposes, the yards are permanently hoisted. Of course, the game wouldn't use those furled sail models.
maturin
1) Then the game is wrong and it should be modified to lower the yards when furling - a simple animation change that should offer minimal difficulty while improving appearance/accuracy considerably. You've played the game, right?I tend to explain away the permanently-hoisted yards by assuming that the sails are being clewed up to the yard, rather than furled. This wouldn't be terribly common technique, but it makes a lot more sense in battle because it's a lot faster and no men are needed aloft.
freddykrueger66
Yeah, they got a lot of ships to complete first so I doubt they will review mine any time soon, if they even need mine though. In the meantime I'm working on a tiger ausf H1 atm which is coming along nicely, but looking at this post I get the urge to model ships again haha. SteelSandwich
I'd say, why don't you have a go at some fortresses? Something new and greatly needed in the game!
freddykrueger66
that's a pretty good idea actually, makes for a good portfolio piece too if it wouldn't be suitable for the game. I'll have to research this a bit more though
