Patch 9.7 - Land sighted

Try catch a trader in a Victory. Much better assault some brig/frigate/3rd rate who wouldn't be trying to get away from you.

Such comments is always an excellent test of what ships people are sailing and how much they play RVR in SOLs.

You know that the method 'send my warship to port X by capturing a trader' wasn't intended that way in this game right? That everyone uses it is another matter. Also, capturing a trader in a victory is quite doable, you can after all make a mess of his sails immediately at the start.

Just a quick question.. I am sorry if it has been asked already .. i couldnt read all posts. Will we keep the captured ships we own now after the patch ? Or they will be autosold to port ? I am asking, because most players atm just stockpile captured ships.. Maybe spare them the trouble ?

"Important: Combat NPC ships are now transferred to the admiralty after capture – admiralty immediately provides the compensation for the captured ship durability. But you cannot capture NPC ships any more."

Bad idea. This is going to discourage people from pvping more by not wanting to risk any ship. Disposable third rates are a problem but not having them is a really big problem because people will just stay in port without safety in numbers.

"BP's not tradeable"

Great. As a 41 level crafter from pvp2 to pvp1 I have to start making frigates and hope that i can make 1st rates by 50. At least they could have made bp's account wide with this change. I and a lot of the recent transfers to pvp1 just got screwed.

Read the entire sentences..  it helps.

Lots of good stuff.  If some of them don't work out for the best can't fault them for not trying.

The patch post didn't say anything about already captured ships before they apply the patch (would be a bit strange too), so no, cap as much as you want before the patch is applied.

Double edged sword tbh, for some it may discourage pvp for some it will encourage pvp. Personally before this i would see no reason as to why should i risk a crafted Bellona in pvp against a group of capped 3rds that would rofl rush me to ram me and sink me, after this patch i will actually go out of port to fight, knowing that if i risk my ship and sink an enemy ship, i will actually achieve something.

All good and exciting except for the "No NPC capture" thing. Tell us exactly how that is NOT going to encourage ganking ? There'll be hordes of gankers sitting outside major ports trying to cap anything that moves. The price of labour hours and of ships is going to soar, and the lowered XP thresholds won't matter because players will be hitting ranks a long time before they can afford the ships to match. Good on you to make missions available regardless of rank...

This basically screws over anyone who isn't a crafter, in a clan or who's only modestly invested in PvP.

The rest of the new features better make up for it, because that could well be a major show stopper.

You'll make a lot more money out of missions by capping the NPC ship though, since the send to admiralty mechanic reimburses you for it. Regarding the ganking, if it's a major port then get a group together and get some PVP, secure in the knowledge that if you initiate a fair fight, it can only become unfair on the order of 1.5x your team's BR.

the position on the BP has changed over time and the way they work might change in the future even more.

If you learnt a skill - lets say a skill building a certain ship a certain way - we believe its kind of hard to transfer it to someone who has not.

Unless said builder was to say, take some paper and write down the plan and how to do this and happened the paper color was blue

In principle I really like all that I see here...

The stopping of capturing npc ships should make 3rd rates much harder to get hold of which I think is only right.

This may mean:

-greater variety of ships in port battles and more people being encouraged to enter.

-greater tactical considerations when attacking ports so we might see less but more considered/focussed PBs.

One of the things I dislike at the moment is the way huge fleets are teleported instantly across the map by capping npcs etc. It seems unrealistic to me and to reduce tactical skill to have the same ships fight in port battles across the opposite sides of the map within minutes of each other.

Could we completely remove the ability to teleport ships when capping (instead have them automatically sent to the nearest friendly port)? This would mean that nations would have to position their fleets much more carefully and overextending their lines would leave any nation vulnerable. It would also mean different gameplay where players would have to escort larger ships across the map.
