The Russians deserve their own nation in NA

Recommended Posts

The Danes and Pirates are effectively a single faction on EU PvP 1, word has it that Russian players are now migrating to further factions specifically to act in concert with their countrymen.

Danes and Pirates work together against the British because its mutually beneficial, not because we're all Russian.

Old news - but we love it - lotza cash and XP. Eventually you guys will bang your heads against us enough and will become as good of fighters as we are and then you can play with others without feeling the callow need to gang up - imagine!

One simple question: if Russia why not Poland then?

To the Polish player.. do you know the history of the Polish squadrons in the British and French airforce  during World War Two? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_Air_Forces_in_France_and_Great_Britain

Nations exist in the game to create several basic player groups inside game nations. In this game you are, game technical, a privateer, a private captain (not being part of a national navy) to sail and fight for a specific governement or king that (as in real) does not always have to be the one of your own nation. Many privateers have sailed for a foreign nation. Game clans you can consider as private privateer organisations, they can have members recruited from several nations, but all sailing under the flag of the governement each captain in the clan have received a letter of marque from.

I don't consider privateers as individuals playing a (important) role in the national or international politics, they are the mercenaries at sea, nothing more nothing less. So it does not matter from what nation you are? No, as it doesn't matter that the soldiers of by example the Vatican have not the Vatican nationality but are from Switzerland. So if you like it, you can create a clan (a privateer organisation) originated in a foreign (non game) nation to represent your own real live nationality in this game too.

The point is balance. It's not about historical accuracy. If there were large numbers of eskimos playing the game then they should have their own nation.

And the reason is obvious. Those eskimos would have some loyalty to each other, would share a language.

But without their own nation they would spread out among and dominate small nations and dictate their policy - forming an indivisible and permanent power block

Aliances would no more come and go - losers become vassal states of the winners and join in subjugating the few that remain. After Britain. America will fall

It's akin to the rise of the Catholic church in Europe. A supra-national power structure that came to dominate the policies of the entire continent. It could well have been called the Catholic Empire

Yes indeed the British are on the shape end of this at the moment and it is to the Russian advantage not to have their own country

But isn't this an exploit? And as such is this good for the game?

Of course the other solution is to remove the concept of nations entirely - just keep clans. This too would remove the distortion in power structures and act for the long-term health of the game

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shifting alliances are good - they keep it interesting

Fixed alliances due to large national groups without their own nations will drive players away

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

just my thoughts

Worries about balance between in-game factions;

Implies people should play as "their nation" in the game too, for "balance";

Joins the strongest faction himself.

No, you've missed the point. Re-read my post. In a healthy game the strongest faction should never be so strong that it has the power to take over the map.

For this reason alliances should shift - not be set in stone by the presence of a supra-national power. (nb 'supra' - not 'super')

But if you can't get your head around that - try this

Is there any reason why the Russians should not have their own nation in game? Apart from some slavish adherence to historical accuracy?

I didnt miss it, and yes, there is: because they want to play different factions, just like everyone else.

What is it with you people with Saint George's Cross in your signatures being unable to refrain from using ad hominems in every other post?

More nations means better balance - if we can guarantee stream of players to all of them.

It won't be problem for Russian players so i have nothing against their own nation - i would even appreciate fact of their existence in game.

At last we would face our true enemy.

Im strongly against Polish nation in game cause there was no polish navy, nor true colonies and dont joke with that Curland colony or Napolenic surrpresion of haiti rebellion.

however !!!

Instead of adding a numerous nations i would rather work on fraction system with guilds that could gain political power over a nations and dictate or at least influence politics of a nation. In such system they would get some more freedom inside faction.

Obviously expansion is going to get to a point where its unfeasible to keep going south East and we'll find someone else to shoot. Problem is we're quite happy with the current pirate borders, not too large, has all the resources we need, theres not really any need to keep expanding.

You do set a nice example with the ad hominem swipe at St. George, what did St. George ever do to you?
