  1. Spanish ensign captured at the Battle of Trafalgar, belonging to the San Ildefonso. The flag had been hung in the crossing of St Paul's Cathedral during Admiral Nelson's funeral service on 9 January 1806. San Ildefonso was captured after only an hour of action in the battle. The ship came under heavy fire from the Revenge and Defence, together shooting away her mizzen and main masts. With 34 dead and 126 wounded, she surrendered to the Defence. San Ildefonso was one of only four prizes captured by the British at the Battle of Trafalgar, along with the Bahama, Swiftsure and San Juan Nepomuceno, surviving the storm that followed the battle. She was used as a store ship and broken up in 1816.\ Source: http://www.rmg.co.uk/content/identifying-san-ildefonso-flag
  2. Source Was looking through the thread (novo navios) that was posted earlier today, and came across this Téméraire class vessel. While she was a member of the overall class design, she was notably one of two ships (designated the Suffren class) that was built to a shorter design (65cm shorter by length) to meet the demands of then Minister of the Navy Pierre-Alexandre-Laurent Forfait. Once he left office, there were no further ships built to this design. Comparison of the Algésiras to the Téméraire: Algésiras: Displacement: 2,900 tonnes Length: 55.87 m (183 ft 4 in) (172 French feet) Beam: 14.90 m (48 ft 11 in) (44' 6") Draught: 7.26 m (23 ft 10 in) (22 French feet) Propulsion: Up to 2485 m² of sails Complement: 3 officers + 690 men Armament: 74 guns: 28 × 36-pounder (16 kg) 30 × 24-pounder (11 kg) 16 × 8-pounder (3.6 kg) 4 × 36-pounder (16 kg) carronades Téméraire: Displacement: 1966 tonnes 3260 tonnes fully loaded Length: 55.87 metres (183.3 ft) (172 pied) Beam: 14.90 metres (48 ft 11 in) Draught: 7.26 metres (23.8 ft) (22 pied) Propulsion: Up to 2,485 m2 (26,750 sq ft) of sails Armament: 74 guns: Lower gundeck: 28 × 36-pounder long guns Upper gundeck: 30 × 18-pounder long guns Forecastle and Quarter deck: 16 × 8-pounder long guns 4 × 36-pounder carronades Comparison of the Algésiras to a Téméraire class ship of comparative launch date: Algésiras: Displacement: 2,900 tonnes Length: 55.87 m (183 ft 4 in) (172 French feet) Beam: 14.90 m (48 ft 11 in) (44' 6") Draught: 7.26 m (23 ft 10 in) (22 French feet) Propulsion: Up to 2485 m² of sails Complement: 3 officers + 690 men Armament: 74 guns: 28 × 36-pounder (16 kg) 30 × 24-pounder (11 kg) 16 × 8-pounder (3.6 kg) 4 × 36-pounder (16 kg) carronades Lion: Displacement: 2,966 tonnes 5,260 tonnes fully loaded Length: 55.87 metres (183.3 ft) (172 pied) Beam: 14.90 metres (48 ft 11 in) Draught: 7.26 metres (23.8 ft) (22 pied) Propulsion: Up to 2,485 m2 (26,750 sq ft) of sails Armament: 74 guns: Lower gundeck: 28 × 36-pounder long guns Upper gundeck: 30 × 18-pounder long guns Forecastle and Quarter deck: 16 × 8-pounder long guns 4 × 36-pounder carronades Algésiras saw a fairly eventful career, being present at Trafalgar with the French fleet a year after construction, where she was in the heart of the fighting, engaging the HMS Tonnant with the Pluton and the San Juan Nepomuceno. She surrendered to the Tonnant but during the storm after the battle, her crew rose up against the British prize crew and sailed her to Cadiz, where she would be captured along with the rest of the Rosily Squadron by the Spanish in 1808.
  3. These photos are a comparison with a recent attack on Sant Iago (Brits attacking Spain) and Trafalgar itself (date of attack: 7-22-2016). Notice how the two British Lines, although angled slightly different, have the same general shapes and are working together the same way. Notice HMS Avenger is even in the same spot as the HMS Euryalus at the side of the HMS Victory herself at the head of the left line and also notice how HMCS Warrior (the head of the right line) is slightly ahead of the second ship in that line. Anyways, the Brits cut into the Spanish fleet and fought them ship to ship. A link to the actual battle (uploaded to youtube thanks to Brit Captain "John Swigglebottoms") is listed below.

    Events

Since griefing popped up as a complaint regarding events I'm opening this up per admin's request. Griefing is griefing and needs specific responses. But there might be a challenge with the setup as it is. We lose a dura if we're on the losing team, well, unless we manage to run, and that's not a satisfactory situation for the winning team being held up by a runner. We've discussed ad nauseam how anal players get when it comes to their durabilities. I suspect the queue times for events are rather long because most players are hesitant of going all in with their durabilities in the hands of random teammates. It's the worst of both worlds. The shitty loss (but you all say important) part of OW combined with the shitty random teammates of arena games. I can pay a durability every now and then for some PVP xp, but most players seem to avoid it. It would be really cool, even now in testing, to have some PVP on demand in events, but it's usually a ghost town.
  6. Some guys were asking where to find the video after the battle. Hopefully this will make it easier to find it.
