The suggestion: Admiralty offers every player for the duration of a week 3 event vessels of 2 different rates ( rates and vessels are RNG but for all players the same) for free To Devs: Some time ago a rework of the Redeem function was announced, implementation could be achieved through a new tab like "Weekly Event redeem" Details: Every player receives 3 ships out of 2 different rates. The ships are equal for all players Wood,build-ins are determined by admiralty perma mods cant be equiped only certain books are allowed claimed or unclaimed ships get deleted after their event week to make room for the next 3 ships Those ships are called for example "Event Cerberus" (they cannot enter pbs, but have normal RoE and can be used in OW) They cannot be captured or used as fleet can not be traded Event ships have reduced pve reward in order to guide players towards pvp *edit* How outfitting with determined books could work: Pros: reducing fear of loss guide players to all kind of different ships they normally wouldnt use reducing fear of loss give access to ships even for casuals all players become competitive by giving them "equal equipment" skill matters Cons: Could be used to troll people because free ship - but kind of same like ow captured AI ships and quantity is limited to 3 each week for every account. /discuss
  2. tl;dr: planking needs to be more impactful and interesting. I've been thinking about this for a while but now that we can capture NPC ships, it brings it more to the forefront: Should planking do more? So you go out and get your White Oak. Expensive stuff. Somewhat rare and difficult to obtain. You make your ship with white oak planking while my ship has literally no planking at all. For all your trouble and expense, you get 5% more thickness and 3% more armor health and 0.5% more speed and maneuverability. Pretty weak benefits for something that took a lot of work to get. (In the typical PvP fight, 5% more thickness matters not-at-all, too.) The frame actually matters more: your armor (planking!) is 10% thicker if you use live oak as your frame. I'm not sure why that makes sense but it diminishes the importance of your planking choice. In my opinion, frame should probably have no impact on your armor HP or thickness at all. 0%. It should have a bigger impact on your structure health. Maybe Live Oak should be something like +50% structure, for example. (Once armor is gone, structure goes fast, so if structure bonuses are to be meaningful they need to be much higher than they currently are. There is no "structure tanking" in this game. Maybe there should be.) Meanwhile, planking choice should really determine your armor HP and thickness with white oak being rather hugely different than fir, for example. I would also probably rebase it so that crew space is "0%" bonus while anything other than that is some bonus. You don't lose armor because you added fir planks. You'll just gain significantly less armor than if you used white oak instead.
