  1. Swedish Ships of the Line by af Chapman About a year and a half ago I ordered high res scans of Chapman plans from the Swedish war archives. But because of costs for every single scan and very limited information of what every scan actually was I did not order more than a few on Chapman´s 94 gunner "Spiran". As it happens, as of now the archives has scanned most of the plans for the whole array of Chapman Projects regarding ships of the line. And although many midsections and deck-plans are still not scanned, I hope the ones that are available will get you attention for these wonde
  2. Otherwise known as the "Brigand's not here; I'll have to come up with something" thread. This thread is designed to be similar to Brigand's nigh-invaluable "List of ships and other vessels in the game" thread, but with some different info arranged in different ways. Note, however, that this is intended to be a companion to Brigand's thread, NOT a replacement. I have no wish to usurp his work. There's been a bunch of info that's surfaced over the past few months about new ships, as well as new ships being added to the game. Ordinarily, I'd just repost this info in Brigand's thread a
  3. French Corvettes had three masts, most carried about 16 to 24 guns, sometimes more (up to 32). The British Navy did not adopt the term until the 1830s, to describe a small sixth-rate vessel somewhat larger than a sloop, sometimes with only 2 masts. 4. Swan class ships The class was designed by the Surveyor of the Navy, John Williams, and two vessels to this design (Swan and Kingfisher) were ordered in January 1766. Twenty-three more were ordered to the same design between 1773 and 1779; they formed the 'standard' ship sloop design of the British Navy during the American Revolutionary War, during which eleven of them were lost. Surviving vessels went on to serve during the French Revolutionary War and Napoleonic War. The design provided for 16 gunports (8 per side, excluding the bridle-ports) but one pair was initially left unoccupi

  7. Work in Progress. The Battle of the Chesapeake, also known as the Battle of the Virginia Capes or simply the Battle of the Capes, was a crucial naval battle in the American War of Independence that took place near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay on 5 September 1781, between a British fleet led by Rear Admiral Sir Thomas Graves and a French fleet led by Rear Admiral Francois Joseph Paul, the Comte de Grasse. Although tactically indecisive, the battle was strategically decisive, since it prevented the Royal Navy from reinforcing or evacuating the forces of Lieutenant General Lord Cornwallis at
  8. Thought it would be nice to gather the ever growing list of ships into a nice spreadsheet. If you spot any errors, please let me know (I intent on keeping this up-to-date). Note: Historic broadside weight listed in English pounds, converted from national units of weight: Cheers, Brigand
  9. There are several things I must apologize for in advance: 1. The title is slightly misleading. The scans I will be posting are taken from the book "History of the American Sailing Navy" by Howard Chapelle. The scans are of vessels proposed and/or built for both the Continental Navy and the American Navy up to the year 1820. There are further sketches, sail plans, draughts, etc beyond that cut-off, should any request them, however, for the sake of avoiding arguments, I have not included them. 2. I was heartily disappointed to discover that the larger plans are on facing pages within

  13. PLEASE, post only information. Thank you. This thread has the main purpose of collecting as many Spanish ships as we can and, with them, make a reference for incoming works on them for Naval Action. First of all this thread is going to be filled constantly with any ship on service for the Spanish Armada in the age of sail. No matter if ships are originally built in Spanish territory, bought from other nations or captured. Before starting this, is a real need to advice how to post the information we are going to expect from all of you, so, have a look the next points we give to yo
