  1. I don't understand this last sentence... Are you talking about the book I posted? Because it agrees with a lot of what you said in your post... It's sad but one of the worst things that happened to some of the indigenous people in South America in the 19th century was the independence from the Spanish Crown... Once they lost the protection of the Crown, their lands were plundered and a lot of lives were lost. Again, I'm not saying that the Spanish Crown was a good thing for them in earlier centuries either...
  2. Holy s**t this escalated quickly hahaha. Calm down guys, I was not implying that Spain was the best thing that has happened to America... The Black Legend does not imply that Spain did nothing wrong in America, it just states that it was as bad as any other colonization effort of any European country. The book is an interesting and different perspective, and as I said in my first post, I don't personally agree with all that's written there. And of course you have to bear in mind that the book was written 100 years ago. However when someone just says that the Spaniards killed millions, I mean, if they killed millions with the couple thousands of soldiers they brought there at that time, those must have been very good soldiers indeed. It's true that they brought over European diseases, but that would have been the same if the first to arrive were British, French, Germans or whoever. They killed thousands intentionally? Most probably, yes, like everyone else at that time would have. Millions? I don't think so. And, you like it or not, some of the Spanish conqueror's that arrived there achieved incredible things with very limited resources and knowledge, and for me their histories and adventures were at least interesting. That doesn't mean that I am agree with all of the things that they did, of course! Please, do not start on this thread a war about Spanish vs British empire, I would like to keep this thread about the book in question and any other books that may be related to the matter if you know any. Also it will be cool if we can have a civilized discussion, and I'm sorry if I've offended someone with my initial post, it was not my intention. Have a nice day!
  3. Hello everyone! I've returned to the game after a long time (almost since the Sea Trials) and I'm currently playing with an alt in the PvE server, looking for some relaxing time before release. And, since lately the PvE server has seen some downtime, I've figured out that I'll put here something to read while you wait, or during your long trading expeditions, for those of you interested. It's a book written by Charles F. Lummis, a north american journalist, historian, and interestingly enough, an activist for Indian rights, among other things. It's a different view about Spain's discovery and expansion through America during the XVI century, that drifts away from the usual view of a very cruel and bloody submission of indigenous tribes (this is known as "The Black Legend", La Leyenda Negra in Spanish, which most historians nowadays agree is a fact, to one degree or another), and also tells the tales of some of the Spaniards that ventured inside this New World, some of them well known, while others are completely unknown to the general public, even in Spain. You can find the book here and read it completely free: https://archive.org/details/spanishpioneers00lummrich I think that it's a well written, easy to read (even if English is not your native language, as it's my case), and finally entertaining book. Although I'm not personally agree with everything that's written there, I think that it's much closer to reality than the completely opposite view, were Spaniards are depicted more like genocides than conquerors. I hope that you like it, and may be you can even consider joining Spain after release
  4. I love this ship, even bigger than the Santisima and with more firepower, and a much better sailor. This will probably be the better first rate of the game, as it was irl. Nice choice!
  5. It could be fun and a good way of creating completely balanced matches.
  6. For me, at least the Anisotropic filter option is not being saved correctly. I have already filled a F11 report.
  7. Hello! I want to present the spanish 3rd rate ship of the line Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. It's also known as Guipuzcoano, because it was build by/for the Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas (Royal Guipuzcoan Company of Caracas). She was based on the design of another 3rd rate, the San Genaro. I think that this ship can be very important for the game, as it was a private ship of the line, not owned by any armada until it was captured by the british admiral Sir George Rodney, only two years after being launched. With 64 cannons at her disposal, the fire power didn't prevent her from having a large capacity, with a cargohold of 6 meters in height for almost 13 in length. Due to this, she was classified as an hybrid between a warship and a merchant ship. Her oversized dimensions of the keel, stem and stern frame made her and excellent sailer. The british, very impressed with this ship, not only named her HMS Prince William, but also made an outstading plane exposed on the National Maritime Museum of London (Wich sadly I couldn't find - found by Alex Connor) As I said, I think that this ship is very important, as she is an historical evidence that private corporations or societies did have the resources to build and maintain ships of the line, regardless of whether it was a wise decision or not. Think about it, a ship with this fire power, cargo capacity and that sailed fairly well? Yes please! It can be a beautiful end-game content for the big player societies. I hope you like it!
  8. I also had the issue of the mouse cursor moving between screens, activating window mode solved the isssue, you have to play with the windows bar but it's not a big deal for me atm. Hope it helps!
