  1. Looks wonderful. She sorta reminds me of the HMS Beagle in terms of her hull. The open gun deck, with the small stern area and quarterdeck at the rear and all. Chapman looks like a fine trading vessel! Perhaps a replacement for the hideously slow Trader's Snow?
  2. I most certainly don't "fear" the post. I simply think it's unnecessary and punitive. I congratulate you and the rest of the pirates for their great victories against the Swedish nation today, and respect the display of skill. However, I do not respect your poor reaction to it whatsoever. SORRY has my recognition as a fine and skilled clan of great tactical ability, but considering this, it most certainly does not have my respect.
  3. 1: This post doesn't suggest any change or idea for the community. 2: This post doesn't contribute anything meaningful to the community. 3: This post isn't funny. 4: This post is clearly punitive. I don't see why it still exists right now.
  4. I agree; only giving other ships two minutes to come in and help is outrageous. No one should be able to get ganked within sight of their capitol... I've been watching various enemies of Great Britain ganking ships in sight of Port Royal; and even though I fly every bit of canvas, it closes so fast that no one can really respond. The logic of having a timer is obvious. Of course, if all battles were open, then a single engagement could turn into a giant mob of ships. Timers mean that we can have single-ship actions more frequently as well. But, two minutes is simply too short; that's only enough time for those in the immediate area around the battle to get in and help. I would propose extending the timer to at least five minutes. That's enough time for closeby players to hear the cry for help and get in, but not too long enough that the battle is overpopulated, or that ganking other ships is impossible.
  5. Perhaps the crew were so panicked to repair your ship that they fired the guns? Just kidding. In all seriousness, I did have a similar problem in which the numbers seemed off; for example, instead of 6 = "Sailing", it would = "Gunnery", 7 = "Survival", etc. I solved this problem by resetting every control manually to the same key; it worked. I know that the brackets on my keyboard fire the broadsides, perhaps your computer for some reason identifies 1 and 2 as the brackets? I've had a computer that switched % with $ and unfortunately never solved that issue...
  6. Thank you for your kind words; the two of you were very chivalrous in the entire affair, and I did enjoy the engagement despite various tedium I agree with your conclusion above. I don't know why anyone would prefer undercrewing a ship- suffering from slower gunnery, sailing and other significant vulnerabilities. I think a fully crewed Suprise would whup a undercrewed Trinco's bum! In addition, the game is much more fun when you pick a ship (Essex for me, Surprise a while back and Pickle in the early days!) and spend time learning every single detail about it. These ships are machines; complicated machines which can only be used to their full potential if you spend time learning how to use them!
  7. So there I was- sailing in a pretty, brand-new Essex (dubbed HMS Black Prince) after a really fun mission near Savanna La Mar. I felt pretty great; confidently sunk an AI trinco with minimal damage sustained. However, as I sipped at my tea, I noticed something unusual! Two pirate Privateers, bearing down upon me! Bah; how dare two little schooners attack a great frigate like me! Should be easy, right? Well, it turns out I'm a total idiot. After a grueling hour of getting the "death from a thousand cuts" treatment to my rigging, I finally managed to actually hit the little buggers. (Kudos to Hethwill and his mate for a damn fine job managing their rigging so that a 20 shot broadside at close range would totally miss half of the time). But I was in a rough state and tired from the hour of dancing around and getting owned by two privateers. So I turned tail and slowly tore down their sails to the point we both went "meh". Now every bloody sailor and officer in Kingston-Port Royal has apparently been mocking my foolery! I heard this in a tavern yesterday, and now my crew's even muttering it as they work right under my nose. Bravely bold Captain Hammond, Sailed forth from Carsile He was not afraid to die Oh, brave Captain Hammond, He was not at all afraid To be killed in nasty ways Brave, brave, brave, brave Captain Hammond He was not in the least bit scared To be mashed into a pulp Or to have his rudder gouged out And his morale broken To have his sails torn And his ship burned away And his gun crews all hacked and mangled Brave Captain Hammond! "That's... that's enough music for now, lads." Brave Captain Hammond ran away Bravely ran away away When privaters reared their ugly heads, He bravely turned his tail and fled Yes, brave Captain Hammond came about And gallantly he scurried out Bravely taking to the rigging He beat a very brave retreat Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin!
  8. I think your caps lock might be broken. Might want to check that out.
  9. Was this the scenario in which Hornblower: The Frogs and the Lobsters was based on?
  10. The perks do cheapen the game a bit; I most certainly think that the aforementioned perks are pretty excessive. However, fleets should stay. They are fun to hunt down, can help in some cases with protecting ships and make the world a bit more populated and lively. I see the advantage of removing them, but I think the disadvantage of removing them is too great.
  11. Pfft, who needs a special Anti-Pirate Coalition badge to strike fear into the hearts of pirates when you have an SLRN forum signature!
  12. Yeah, you only need 5 1/2 miles of width for carronades. Silly Austrians trying to do shipbuilding. Is it me, or is this a really shallow draft frigate? the waterline looks like it's actually below the halfline mark on the design; you would think it would be deeper in the water to improve storage space, stability, etc. Austrian waters (in which there are little anyhow) aren't exactly shallow, are they?
  13. Just wondering, do you spend all of your time finding ways to try to taunt people?
  14. So, because a moderator locked a post and hence prevented you from removing a reply which was causing trouble with a friend, the moderators are in the wrong and should have their powers limited? Am I missing something here? In addition, the moderators are simply trying to promote a civil and mature community, organized discussion and player input. Our community is quite special in that a vast majority of the game's features came directly from player input and suggestions, and the devs have maintained contact with the community to gauge updates. And part of that is thanks to the moderators and their work here.
  15. I missed it! I live in Waukesha, only 3 hours south of Green Bay; somehow, I managed to forget about it.
  16. A "little" French frigate eh? xD We have yet to see one of these twin-cabin frigates on Naval Action, and the Alcmene seems like a perfect introduction. She would be an interesting addition to the 9pdr frigates.
  17. I thought we were talking about adding player statistics into the game, not sissy fighting over who's the better captain like two year olds. Right? I think it's a great idea. Seeing player statistics can create competition between players, and recognize the skill of captains in your nation, or the world on the top of the leader-board. It could be a catalyst for competition like duels and honor-based combat, and help stimulate PVP; It's my opinion that the PVP servers need as much PVP as possible! Plus, I think it would be neat to see my personal statistics in judging my overall performance as a captain. I have no idea what my K:DR ratio is, or how many ships I've defeated- or how many times I've lost
  18. I'm not sure what the purpose of this post is. Are you trying to open a discussion on pirate mechanics, referring to an open world incident or just saying something obscure to make some sort of point?
  19. I remember reading about how the 6th rates in the service of both the British and French navies during the 20 years of conflict in the Napoleonic Wars and the Wars of the French Revolution were literally worked to death. The extreme frequent use of the 6th rate ships in constant grueling action left many ships in tatters. For example, the famous HMS Childers (which was fired upon by the forts protecting Brest harbor, France hence kicking off the war), a typical 14-gun 6th rate brig was overworked heavily. Her timbers were so rotten that when fired upon by 18pdr shot from a Dutch 20-gun ship off the coast of Norway in the later parts of the war, they went straight through without throwing up any splinters at all. Replicating how heavily overworked ships -for example, my Surprise which I constantly use- degrade over time would be pretty neat. I was thinking that for every minute that would pass in the open world whilst sailing, the ship would lose a tiny tick of some unit representing overall hull strength. Over perhaps 60 hours of use, damage would begin to slightly effect hull strength hit-points, leakiness and the thickness of the wood. This could make ships you constantly use, such as Rattlesnakes and the 9pdr frigates require extra attention for their frequent service. It would also increase demand for crafting, which is always cool.
  20. I think this is already a point discussed in a lot of other posts mate.
  21. She reminds me of the Essex in how her weather deck guns are placed on the quarterdeck. I really like how the Essex groups the weather deck guns on the quarterdeck together, and having another ship that emulates that could be pretty neat.
  22. When I get bored, I like to come here and watch the hillarious sissy fights between members of SORRY and other players. It's quite amusing. "We're better than you!" "No, we're better than you!"
