  1. I would seem reasonable to add a refit permit to upgrade current ships to the "new" woods. Not sure what would be the best (and fairest) way to implement this.
  2. I lost connection twice in quick succession today. Fortunately I was not in combat. I assumed the server was having problems and so I didn't try again. No sense in risking a good ship. I'll just wait until you folks correct the problem.
  3. Is there a listing of the effect of ship quality color (gray, green, blue, purple, and gold)? Is there significance to the 'standard' ship type; are there any other ship types?
  4. I haven't thought this out, but perhaps the idea can be developed in discussion here. Make port maintenance costs proportional to the number of ports owned by a nation. This will put some feedback pressure on disproportionate populations without placing actual limits on population size.
  5. Devs must be tearing their hair out.
  6. Must be the new server has a population limit and first come first served. Hmm, I wonder which nation would be the first time zone to log in? Could it be Russia?
  7. As I said, this never happened to me before. Must be something to do with the new server?
  8. Stuck on loading....Never had this problem before.
  9. Must be hard for the gunners to fire through the trees
  10. I believe I have solved this "problem". The Fort is placed on a promontory in OW yet behind the promontory, with the addition of trees, in the battle instance. This completely obscures it from most positions except when close to shore and slightly north of it.
  11. I posted very soon after the battle. How could the fort be damaged?
  12. During the entire battle all the other much further away forts rendered.
  13. I could see the square fort to the north of Santa Fe, which was much further away.
  14. Why did the square fort south of Santa Fe not appear in the battle instance? It should have been on the point directly behind the ship.
  15. A "sextant" feature might follow realistic sightings. During daylight one would get an arch from sun sight until noon, when an exact position is possible. At night one would get a triangle (3 celestial sights). During a storm, no position available.
  16. Xebecs are interesting and different ships, but I don't think there were any in the Caribbean. Crossing the Atlantic in a ship with so little freeboard would have been a harrowing experience, at best.
  17. I was beam on the wind and wanted to rotate toward a wreck so I set dead slow and backed the foresail while luffing the main and mizzen (depowered). I sailed in a slow arc further and further from my target.
  18. I'm a sailor in real life so sail handling is second nature to me. Yes, I de-power and it used to work before. Something seems to have changed in the sail "physics". I put that in quotes, because the devs mentioned long ago that they didn't intend to make a sailing simulator and the sail physics are artificial. Still, one should not sail ahead from a dead stop when the ship is headed at any angle into the wind with the sails aback.
  19. Getting frustrated at the dysfunctional state of backwinding. I can be dead stopped and raise sail backwinded and start forward. Backwinding only seems to work when the ship is nearly dead into the wind. It would be great if we also had greater manual control so we could control sails on individual masts, ie only raise sail on one mast.
  20. Where did the idea of elimination of the hostility mechanism come from? Perhaps it still needs refinement, but to return to the bogus flag mechanism is moving the wrong direction. Hostile AI was widely despised for wasting our time. The game will fail if you waste our time.
  21. Although exceptional ships are objects of desire, I have used many lower quality ships to good effect when I had to. Player skill is still the most important factor in combat. Exceptional ships just add a dimension of gratification, but only if they are truly exceptional and not stamped out by cookie cutter.
  22. Regarding OW speed increase; it gives less time for a faster ship to chase down prey. The visual range is still the same so prey reacts relatively sooner and reaches safety sooner. Not sure what was intended by the speed increase so late in development after we were all accepting of the old speed.
  23. Yes, you do lose your ship, but replacing it is so easy it is only a matter of a few mouse clicks. You are the one that said risk was killing PvP.
  24. So your suggesting there should be no sense of risk in PvP? Sounds like great fun. Perhaps you would like the game even better if your ship just reappeared after being sunk. No need to craft a new one. Btw, where are all those casual players flocking back to the game now that it is dumbed down?
