  1. Yup. But the kit plan looks a bit different, more British I think it was called Diana or something. Edit: https://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=333&t=41265 that's the original model
  2. The model was initially based on a pseudo-british kit plan (which for whatever reason was based on plate xxxiii from Chapman's ANM). The russification happened later. Google frigate Aurore sketchup and you should find the original model.
  3. Cherubim is a lot of things, but it's not russian. A modified version of a design by af Chapman, so basically swedish.
  4. Hm...they were pretty short, 157' on the gundeck when measured according the british method IIRC. For comparison, thats a bit larger than french 18-pounder frigate like La Revolutionnaire.
  5. Didn't Tordenskjold rage-board a SoL with a frigate during the Great Northern War? Could have happened in an harbour, though, it's been a while since I read the story.
  6. By the way, Shannon was a 'fir' ship, Chesapeake LO.
  7. And the game devs modelled their QAR according to the plans of the NC museum Hm...as an educated guess: the smaller ships usually were used as the guinea pigs for rig experiments, so it´s probable that 6th rates got this 'update' first...maybe the 20-gun ships of the 1719 Establishment? The AotS Blandford might have some clues about those rig changes and there are a lot of contemporary early 18th century models of smaller vessels in the NMM, although the rig usually is 'younger' than the model itself and may have gotten modernised during restorations. Gonna check it this evening That...thing is an abomination, not a galleon. EDIT: From the link: CAD design of the Queen Anne's Revenge. The design has been created from a variety of contemporary designs, and from what little can be deduced from historical anecdotal information, including info available from her likely wreck-site. That´s interesting...because the model looks very much like L' Aurore
  8. Why that? The vast majority of vessels were designed with a certain LWL in mind and the base for these calculations usually were the weights for 4 or 6 months of provisions. Some ships even 'liked' to be filled up to the brim and performed best when deeply laden, e.g. Slade´s Niger-class or the Livelys. You´re right about our laser-guided gunnery, but provisions wouldn´t be a 'good' limit and would add nothing the actual gameplay, in my opinion.
  9. What would be the 'greater depth' that provisions would add to the game?
  10. The book was a very good read, the cast ain't bad...looking forward to the series. I really wonder how they portray the monster, tho. On a side note, the HMS Terror in the trailer looks a lot like the real thing (except the rigging) would have, including the stupidly thick wales.
  11. @CaptainSparcklesss If you´re such a big fan of galleons, you might want to remove the pics in the OP which don´t show this type of ships. It´s a bit misleading in it´s present state.
  12. You really want this monstrosity?
  13. Six bow chasers? Jesus. The most a frigate could bear on an enemy was most probably four and that´s for the 18- or 24-pounder frigates and if the ship was sailing directly behind the other vessel, which would have been a rather uncharacteristic chase. For reference, here´s a rather theoretical plan for a danish 18-pounder frigate, the Venus, on how the guns could be angled in combat. If properly set up, she might have been able to fire three guns (two on the upper deck, one on the fo'c'sle) at the enemy in a wind- or leeward position. Edit: No, make that two guns only. Just had a look at the other plans, no bow chaser on the fo'c'sle possible, because the cat tails would have been in the way,
  14. realistisch is da gar nix, Santi nach ihrem umbau zum vierdecker war so ziemlich das schlechteste segelschiff der geschichte. Ocean und besonders victory sollten sich um welten besser segeln lassen.
  15. That´s ridiculous. You said that frigates didn´t fight against ships of the line. That statement was false, pure and simple. By the way, if you knew a bit about naval history, then you would´ve noticed that my examples more or less just covered a 25-year span, I'll let you figure out which one, I´m done with this conversation. And to quote myself:
  16. @Jorge There were more, of course. But just one would have been enough to make your initial statement invalid.
  17. from the top of my head: Randolph vs.Yarmouth, La Forte plus four other frigates vs two British 74s, Venus vs Rättisvan, Venus plus a 74 vs a turkish threedecker
  18. Historically, none of that applied to the Wasa/Gustaph Adolphs. They stood their ground against russian three-deckers and 74s in the war of 1788/89 and were able to take a lot of punishment. They also were considered as very stiff ships, able to fly a lot of canvas with little heeling. That being said, taking the weights of the swedish 36s/24s into account, the in-game armament should be 32s/18s.
  19. As a bavarian, it absolutely pains me to say this, but....I really like the video.
  20. bla bla bla...maybe you should stop insulting your own cherished history by claiming that cities like Cartagena and Santo Domingo were unconquerable. Thank you.
  21. I´d pay for that! Believe me.
  22. Nah, not the Leopard. The dutch had plenty of ships between 50 and 60 guns. The Delft would be nice to have in-game
