Well, the "all vs Spain" era is finished. Deal with it.

And yes the literal translation is Armed, but this meaning is not used in Castillian when related to ships. Armada, taken as armed, would have to be translated as a qualifying adjective, related to a female that carries a gun.
This is just another case when literal translations make no sence.
Of course the literal translation is not used when talking about ships, yet the ethimology of the word -both as a sustantive as a participle/adjective- is absolutely correct. It comes from the latin armāta, which is the feminine form of armātus, which, you guessed it, means armed. Yes, the same participle/adjective word.
No one was making a literal translation but pointing out the origin of the word, and thus, no amends were needed.
Un desperdicio de cuarto mensaje, pero gracias por participar, y un saludo afectuoso.

A ship with a much richer history and a long and successful career: Rayo (San Pedro Apostol), 1768
It spent much of her life as an 80-gun ship, but for Trafalgar was already armed with 100 guns. It was the oldest ship to participate that battle.
As 80-gun ship
30 24 pounders
32 18 pounders
18 8 pounders
2 3 poundersAs a 100-gun ship

4 4 pounders
4 28 pd carronades.- 1

A bit early, but quite interesting ship: Nuestra Señora de la Concepción y las Ánimas, 1688.

Thanks, but can't open scans. How big are they? Is it possible to upload smaller size?
They are .PDF files. I will rotate and convert them to any format you need. .JPG?
Here they are

I think it's better to have this one in a separate thread, so here it is.
Information about the ship (spanish)

For some reason they scanned them in .pdf, but the quality is nice.

Victory! I found them. I'll get the San Fernando scanned ASAP.

I'm going to drive tomorrow to the place where I stored some boxes. Wish me luck in finding those plans! It'll take me a while to dive in there and find something worthy

I'd fund research on cancer and other diseases we should have gotten rid of years ago.

I put a good deal towards SC's development, so I hope they really do something with it.
So far NA has given me far more in return

Armada means literally "armed". It marks the difference between the merchant fleet and the war navy.
It's the name of the whole War Navy, full name Real Armada Española (Royal Spanish Navy), but it can be applied to a task force/fleet.

For Spain's greatest, Blas de Lezo IMHO.

Spain is missing Álvaro de Bazán, Antonio Gaztañeta, Jorge Juan, Juan Ruiz de Apodaca...

What do real life french victories and losses have to do with being french in a game like this? Losing a lot in real life does not have any bearing on wheather french will win battles in game. It should not be discouraging at all.
I plan to fight for a disappearing Empire with a beautiful and rich past and a dark future, and believe me, I'll do it as if it was 1530 all over again

Excellent points. Thanks!

More likely it would be even more of a useless brick than the Santisima.
I wish useless bricks would stop destroying my ships.
-
I'd rather not see all the "Why was the Independence nerfed?" threads.
-
There were 235 historical Spanish SoLs built in the game's period (in fact only two were built beyond 1830). I don't think we need to build anything fantasy based.
-
Even if it was free-form I still see no reason as to why not have American ships-of-the-line, if they can have Constitution be balanced (and they have balanced it, else' they'd have as good of an immunity to some rounds as a Victory at certain ranges) I'm pretty sure they can do the same to the Independence.
Well, if real data is of no use then I myself will slap the name Independence on a French 1st rate, fly Old Glory and hand it to you personally.
You either want a ship in the game or you don't. A mock ship will get us nowhere.
-
You are assuming nations and locked navies, and that's quite an assumption.
-
There's only one San Felipe (or three) listed here: http://www.todoababor.es/listado/ and they are all 70/80-gun ships.
-
There's this single good reason: They are overpowered.
A late schooner or a medium frigate don't have the power to be a problem. A 1st rate SoL does, and in a very bad way.
And no, cost and build time won't ever be solutions for overpowered units in a game. Gamers being gamers they will gather and collect until there's the same number of (or even more) overpowered ships, than reasonable ones. I've seen it, you've seen it, all of us have seen it.
The only solution for that is HARD limits on the number of units allowed to be built, and I don't think any developer would consider that as an option.
