  1. That's not true, after the last patch almost any ship can be penetrated by smaller caliber guns - I often sail an Agamemnon using 4lb longs on the quarter deck (I have my reasons! :D). They frequently penetrate frigates in battle, sometimes ships of the line too. Speaking of the pickle, it should not be able to stand up against a frigate in a fight. A small ship should almost always be ineffective in fleet engagements - there's a reason why John Richards Lapenotière didn't join the fight at Trafalgar to chain the enemy. EDIT: @admin With this change, can I suggest the option to load different ammunition types on one broadside (eg. Chain for the weather deck and double on the gun deck)?
  2. I think this will help many new players.. way too many times have I seen people chaining me down to 70% using two broadsides, and then spend the next 10 broadsides getting me down to 65%... this will encourage them to stop at 70% and fire at my hull instead. And please remember that it does not take an "Elite OP PvP veteran with über skillz" to demast an opponent. all it takes is a few well aimed broadsides - spend one day practicing demasting on the AI and you're good to go. I often find AI demasting to be much more difficult than player demasting.
  3. I'm just speculating here: I'm guessing Notz joined thinking it was PvP and intended to help you out since you were in the patrol zone.. upon finding out you were PVE'ing in a designated PvP area it is likely that he was annoyed. After joining the battle he is unable to leave (I guess?) until the fight was over thus wasting his time. This is a gameplay problem not caused by either of you but should probably be addressed by the Devs? Allegedly his reaction to the situation was to fire his bow chasers and one broadside at you - the problem in your case is that without evidence you are relying on him admitting guilt. For all we know he could simply have fired two 4lb bow chasers at you in annoyance that bounced off and then waited for you to finish the fight. Is that screenshot all you have from the incident?
  4. I'm sure everyone here will support you provided you have more evidence of this - luckily it sounds to me like nobody was harmed. There is one major problem with the above statement though. You said yourself that he was accusing you of AI farming, not ALT farming. AI farming is of course NOT an excuse for shooting you at all, but do you have more screenshots? Perhaps one of the chatlog? and preferably one of him opening fire at you? Maybe also one of the combat log? Anything at all that can help clearning this mess up?
  5. A merge is a very bad idea, it is not going to fix the current player numbers. I'd gladly let them move their character over to 'PvP One' with experience + skill books though, but let's not force them to switch.
  6. I do not know if this is at all possible, but one of the most frustrating things with rig repairs is seeing your spanker and main course sail being repaired but not doing anything to fix your broken foremast. Is it possible to make us choose between repairing broken masts and/or broken sails? Both repair types should still consume rig repairs so we do not add extra repair kits. This will also force players to decide whether to do a mast repair to prevent demasting or a sail repair to get the ship speed back up. Both repair types should still have a 10 min timer. Splitting repairs in two means that it will be impossible for a demasted ship to get back to 100% sail in one repair, but it will be much easier to regain manouvreability if a mast is lost.
  7. Be careful with throwing accusations around in a tribunal case - could put you in a bad light.
  8. We're all accused of things from time to time, even if it is against the rules I think it's better to just let it slip. Unless it's a serious accusation that could potentially hurt you or other players I wouldn't waste time on it (Alt-abuse or similar). You don't call the police if you get into an argument in a bar/pub either.
  9. I suggested seperate keys for firemodes a while ago and Admin seemed to approve of the idea, I have not heard anything about it since - it could be a part of the new UI.
  10. I know people hated them, but I really miss the fine woods.
  11. Cool.. remember to tell them to buy the DLC as well
  12. I think most of us enjoys the windturns, but the 180 degree turn throughout a battle is a problem - to get the weathergage all you have to do is sail away from your opponent and wait for the wind.
  13. I find that it makes no difference, people still get away if they have a faster ship.. my problem with the constant windchanges is my way of fighting relies on taking and keeping the weathergage - that is impossible if the wind changes 180 degrees ever 20th minute. I'd say we should have a much slower constant windchange that enables you to maintain the weathergage.
  14. It feels random, sometimes I am halfway through the circle before the tag button is activated, if we assume that this is down to ping and look past it then this screenshot is the most typical example. I was never close enough for the tag button to turn red though. I have no clue how close I’d have to have been for the tag to work.
  15. Would it not be possible to reduce the tag circle visuals to fix it? Thus making the tag circle appear smaller on screen than it actually is. I was thinking that it could have something to do with ping as well, but it also happens at low speeds (upwind) which should in theory give the server and client more time to sync.
  16. Sorry.. will do! I am unable to tag other players unless I am half-way inside the tag circle + I am also unable to be dragged into battle unless I am half-way inside the tag circle. Like the above screenshot shows I am inside the tag circle but the tag button stays gray - if I get one ship length closer it will start flashing red/gray and when I'm halfway inside the tag circle it turns red. The button will usually stay red until I am outside the tag circle again. I only have this screenshot of it atm but it has plagued me for a while - I'll try to record it to better show what happens next time I find a player.
  17. I've been experiencing problems with the tag circle since it was introduced - I have to be extremely close to tag. The same happens to me when I'm in a group with someone it won't drag me into combat unless I'm almost next to my opponent. This guy made it into port despite me sailing behind him (inside the circle) for ages before he got close enough to the forts: https://imgur.com/a/DOVyh
  18. Not completely true, you would only be able to see if the guns had been run out or not - you'd have no idea if they were actually loaded. The commander may also wait with running out the guns until the last second to make it appear as if the guns aren't ready. It's much more accurate to let us count the seconds since the last broadside and let us evaluate whether the enemy is ready to fire or not by using skill and knowledge of the enemy guns instead of the UI.
  19. You're certainly right, but this doesn't stop me from grabbing a fast ship if I see a fir/fir captain's name pop-up in combat news. When all this is said - I find it relatively easy to fight off fir/fir frigates if I'm in an T/T or stronger Aggy, especially with double poods. The real problem is when you're in a 4th rate and get ganked by three fir/fir Bucentaures. This is why I'd like a mast thickness+HP reduction on the fir ships - that way they're easily demasted thus enabling you to get away (Or if you're able to.. split them up and knock them out one by one). Either way, do not judge people too fast..They usually have a reason for running - I frequently engage ships larger than my own and am forced to leave because it gets too dangerous. Most recently when I attacked a L'Ocean + Bucentaure with an Agamemnon (me) + Trinc (Nethros). We attacked knowing that we were outgunned and the two french SotLs covered each other well, I would never consider our retreat an act of cowardice.
  20. LO/WO Pickle with floating battery is amazing
  21. Let me ask you this... We can both agree that sailing fir/fir ships to gank is cowardly - but what if you sail fir/fir or Teak/Teak with speedmods to catch the fir/fir "cowards".. is that cowardly? It is the only way to ever force them into a fight.. And then when the fir/fir chaser is caught by a LO/WO ship of the same class, is it cowardly to leave if he starts losing? I don't think so., fir/fir is extremely weak - the only advantage it has is speed.
  22. Yesterday as I was demasting a frigate something dawned on me; I was better informed about the state of his masts than he was - when I fired a broadside it was very difficult for my opponent to tell whether I got 8x masts hits or 12x; yet I know the exact number. It is not only in demasting that this is an issue - there are other areas of the game where the enemy have just as easy or an even easier time accessing information concerning my ship than I do: Mast hits Cannon hits (lost guns) Crew hits Reloaded guns per side I propose limiting the information available to your opponents, or give both sides access to the same information. I know a new Battle UI is underway so I'm curious to know if this information will still be available then? What do you guys think of the above mentioned?
