    @admin

I posted this idea in the patch section but it seems more appropriate here. I love the element of randomness in ship outcomes but to give players a little more control, what about the idea of letting the clan owning a port pick a category of buff that they find preferable for that particular port. Any ships built in that port have higher odds to get that buff over something else. If you build in an AI owned port like the uncapturables it's a total random.

This would give players a reason to set up shipyards outside of safe zones (putting more trade ships hauling mats into the ow and in need of protection) as well as make some ports known for building certain types of ships, which could add more flavor. Put a cool down on how often the clans can set their build preferences so they can't change each time they want a new ship type.

Now we're getting somewhere - less randomness is the key

We are not dismissing them. We understand their beauty too. But I think AND KNOW Endymion builders only found out its awesomeness AFTER they built it during the sea trials.

@admin I respect your stance on wanting to keep RNG in-game, and I'm glad to hear that feedback is taken seriously. We all want the game to move forwards.

I think it's important to find gameplay oriented solutions to in-game problems rather than RNG solutions. I love the expansion of ship modifications as mentioned. I just feel that this was a missed opportunity to give some meaning to trading and crafting.

I like the idea that ships are now more customizable than ever - I truly believe that this benefits gameplay and makes things more interesting and unpredictable in PvP. An Endymion is no longer just an Endymion.

But why RNG? RNG has always been and will always be game-breaking in my opinion - especially when it costs time and resources. I should be able to get a ship identical to that of my friend provided that we have the same crafter making it using the same materials.

I'd like to propose the following:

    • Create a set of resources that only spawns in a few locations on the map (such as Copper and Cartagena Tar).
    • Make it easier to get the special resources to give people an incentive to go and get them. Make use of trade missions for this; a 5-hour sail = 5 Cartagena tar.
    • Make the new Trims require these resources too.
    • Create skill-books for each trim for the crafter to learn if he wants to make it part of his ship build.
    • Make the skill-books purchasable from the Admiralty-store using Trademarks obtained through Trade missions.
    • Let the crafter choose the quality of his ship so that we always know how many upgrade-slots the ships have by using extra/special materials.

End RNG..! Bring back skill.! - Give people a reason to be crafters/traders.

By implementing this you will increase the number of ships in OW, encourage trade, encourage PvP, end monopoly on special materials and get rid of RNG

@admin Just gonna quote myself again since the discussion seems to have gone off track.

At the very least consider the suggestions rather than outright dismissing them - we're all players and would like to share our opinion with you to make YOUR game better. There is no reason that the above method cannot be combined with RNG (Letting RNG choose the trim if you don't do so yourself). But by implementing at least some of the above-mentioned ideas you will add content to a game severely lacking it.

We all love the combat aspect, but most of us are dying for content when not actively fighting. This could possibly put more trade ships back into OW and out of the protected zones - This is a good thing is it not?

Try to keep your head cool and be respectful to your community. You're game developers now, not modders. Let us try to have a meaningful discussion about this rather than just throwing mud at each other.

If you tie it to resources, the "best" trims will be monopolized by the power gamers, instead of simply a nice extra "bonus" randomly available to all.

I disagree - If you guarantee the availability of the resources through trade-missions, then you can get the resources for the trim you need by sailing for 2-3 hours instead. A sail like that can easily be split up into smaller bits by logging out at sea.

This benefits the casuals since they do not have the time or money to build the ship again and again,

  6. I'm Percival Merewether - we asked you to provide us with a forum post stating this.. you refused.. we asked around on the TS, and nobody could confirm your statement. We had to tab between the game and google translate throughout half the battle to translate your statements because you insisted on writing russian only..

It would truly be a sad state of affairs if the developers keep a bug in-game and then chooses to ban players from the game should they unknowingly "abuse" this bug... We have always been able to attack players in missions, I do not understand why this situation would be any different? I'm hoping admin will come by and clear this up...

EDIT: Should it turn out that Mori is in fact wrong - then I would like you (admin) to consider this a report to the tribunal for threatening us with an in-game ban in order to save his own ship and crew.

EDIT2: A Screenshot displaying the conversation we had during the battle proving that we made an attempt to clear things up during the fight

  7. The ability to open and close the gunports would add a new - interesting aspect to the game. Imagine being in a stormy battle with a ship of the line and a frigate, the SotL would have to keep its gunports closed on its lower gundeck to avoid taking in water, that could shift the balance and give the frigate the upper hand.

    Please consider this.

    I think it's a great idea.

  8. Reminds me of Peter Wessel Tordenskjold, a dano-norwegian naval officer.

In 1714, Wessel was court-martialled after an indecisive sea battle with a Swedish frigate. The account of the incident is verified by the legal proceedings from November 1714. On July 26, 1714, he encountered a frigate under English flag near Lindesnes, while flying a Dutch flag on the Løvendals Gallej himself. The other frigate was De Olbing Galley carrying 28 guns, which had been equipped in England for the Swedes and was on its way to Gothenburg under the command of an English captain named Bactmann. De Olbing Galley signalled for Løvendals Gallej to come closer, and as Wessel raised the Danish flag, Bactmann fired a broadside at him.[4] In the English captain, Wessel met a tough match.[3] The combat lasted all day, and when De Olbing Galley tried to escape in the evening, Wessel set more sails and continued the duel.[4] The fight was interrupted by nightfall, and renewed again indecisively the following morning.[3] Both ships were badly damaged after around 14 hours of fighting, when Wessel was running out of ammunition. He then sent an envoy to the English ship, cordially thanking the English for a good duel, and asked if he could borrow some of their ammunitions in order to continue the fight. His request was denied, and the captains drank to each other's health, before the ships dispersed.[4][5]

When he heard about the incident, king Frederick IV of Denmark asked for the admiralty to court-martial Wessel.[2] He stood trial in November 1714, accused of disclosing vital military information about his lack of ammunition to the enemy, as well as endangering the ship of king Frederick IV by fighting a superior enemy force.[4] The spirit with which he defended himself and the contempt he poured on his less courageous comrades took the fancy of Frederick IV.[3] He successfully argued a section of the Danish naval code which mandated attacking fleeing enemy ships no matter the size, and was acquitted on December 15, 1714. He then went to the king asking for a promotion, and was raised to the rank of Captain on December 28, 1714.[4]

The idea of sending an envoy asking the enemy for ammunition to continue the fight would be completely ridiculous today.  :D

  9. Can these be user seen only paint jobs. As In WoT . Then I can have the colours I want and not some hideous looking paint scheme forced on me by others. My idea and someone else's idea of what looks good are not the same so please give us the option to turn off the custom paint jobs.  This also includes any clan tags or markings. I want a "historically" correct looking game. Just looking at the Potbs video in one of the clan threads made my eyes hurt.

Before the RN adopted the "Nelson Chequer" it was common for the captains to choose their own paint scheme. I think the best thing is to let people choose their own custom paint jobs but limit the choice of colours.

  10. if you cant wait for the next key and had a good childhood with that lego ship:

    http://www.model-shipyard.com/html/z01uk.html

there are even some Kits made from thick paper.

will buy one after i get my first paypent in Januar

I would love to, but as a poor student, I have to choose between travelling and shipmodeling :(  So travelling it is! :D

That model has no crew on it ;)

In fact have you EVER seen a tall ship model with full crew on deck?

I have, at the NMM in greenwich this summer  B)

  11. Hello all

I too am fairly new to this game and would like to see the same ingame as Larkis here. But as this is in Alpha phase and (very :P) poorly optimized, I have much faith in the devs implementing much of the stuff mentioned here at some point.

I agree with you that so far Napoleon/Empire is the game that does the best in regards to sailors on deck, just a shame that the game is so terrible compared to other sailing games :D Favorite one by far is without a doubt Naval Action.

It looks like the game that I have been waiting for ever since my father bought me the LEGO pirate sets over 20 years ago :D

Keep up the good work devs!  :)
