  1. +100 This is required, currently players often take the biggest ship they have on a trade run because the cost of running is low, now water and food should be very cheap but it will stop players using SOL's as scouts and give people reason to use Frigates and smaller craft.
  2. This game can't go into full release without marines and sharpshooters, these units should be added as a ship upgrade (not regular crew) and fire down on the deck nearby enemy ships at boarding range (when you see G to grapple the other ship). The character models can be basic and don't have to actually fire at enemy sailors (they can just fire at the other ships deck or even just at the direction of the other ship) and slowly remove the enemies sailor and marine count by formula. Also we need proper grapples and ladders, boarding is currently boring. Boarding was one of the major tactics in Naval Combat in the day and should not be nerfed (players should use skill to dodge/avoid ships with marines or ladders from getting near).
  3. Ah, nice thread (are trolls welcome): The Hung Horse The 3 Legged Pig (real pub) The Cheesy Onion The Slippery Deck Don't get any bad ideas now .
  4. Just my 10 top suggestions: 1) Remove those silly red distances in battle, knowing whether you are being gained on is a skill when trying to escape. 2) Keep the Map simple in it's first iteration, zoom, map and your location no frills. 3) Beautify the Port screen before adding trade, if I want to buy a gun I want to see what it looks like 1st. 4) Keep trade simple, start with a none-changing market with fixed supply and demand at 1st and then add the complex math afterwards. (yes I do development and some algorithms are time wasters) 5) Allow us to fire our cannons while boarding. 6) After 50% of the crew is lost in close combat you should lose, fighting to the death hardly ever happened. 7) Add Angel shot (bar shot), does less damage to sails and more to hull then chain, but less to hull and more to sail then ball shot. 8) Allow peace making, if you attack me I must be able to say, "take 50%" of my cargo but leave me" and you can choose to accept or carry out the attack. 9) Add shipwrecks, on the shore that players can explore for a little gold. 10) Add space whales, Clash of Clans Goblins, Noddy hats, Lego ships, Thor, Trump Tower, Ghost Recon's fuzzy night vision (from the only good, original GR) and Sam Fisher.
  5. I think an extra 10-15 minutes would be nice, but some of us don't have 3 hours to play games
  6. I think some people have slightly unrealistic expectations for the map: Features it should have: Current Position 4 Levels of zoom Ports, shorelines and sandbanks. These should only show if your nation (e.g. USA) has found them later on (once all accounts are whipped for release) however the entire map can be shown for the Alpha/Beta. Features that would be nice for gameplay: Be able to ping a friend (show him your position on the map). Be able to peg a point on the map
  7. for anyone looking for an easy to print Google map I found a lot of nice one's at Snazzy Maps. Style 102 Grey hardly uses any black and is very printer friendly, also it can be modified to show towns etc. (just google snazzy maps style 102). Note that Google don't like 3rd party overlays on their maps for some reason.
  8. Just bought this, 10/10. One thing I would like to see is custom battles like the one's in Total War Series where a player can choose what units he will bring to battle, I would be willing to pay for that feature and a few extra units for variety. The battle would end when one team looses too much moral (much like real civil war battles).
  9. The generator is fine, as long as it also makes the player look stupid, maybe remove 10% armor from all sides every time you swear.
  10. Saintduiex is actually trying to recruit us for Goonswarm. He also was publisher for Dieux du Stade.
  11. The current spread is fine, vertical angle should be shown next to the guns that are being aimed and the player should do the rest. For example it should say 3.5 degrees when the guns are up by 3.5 degrees as real sailors did use proper degree measure to put blocks under the guns and levers for elevation at range (they didn't just fire blind), however the blocks and levers were not accurate.
  12. Hi guys, I hear that some guys are kill sharing (stat padding the easy way) in this game and while I clearly read somewhere that this is cheating, I think the developers would do well to put a GAME RULES-READ section between the Suggestions and General Chat (not that we didn't have rules in the first place). Oh and one other thing, while the actions of the developers are harsher then most (at last, most dev's are spineless, look at the BF and COD botfests and kill sharing), retorting as if your opinion is greater then theirs is only going to make them angry. They likely don't speak English as their native language and I think guilty until innocent isn't a bad idea in this situation (e.g. AFK ships should have to explain why they disconnected). If you guys had just said, "I am sorry, I did not see the post where this was said to be an offense to sit and allow people to do damage. Please don't wipe my account!" I am 99% sure they would have understood and retracted or lowered the stat wipe (if not the devs would look really bad), while I wasn't around and don't understand the full situation WE ALL DO KNOW that this is about testing ship balance and doing things to make small ships kill bigger ships will result in the devs thinking that small ships are OP and nerfing them (very good idea? not?). AFK tanks ruin WoT and can result in a ban, but I didn't see the rule about afk tanks shown anywhere in the game and the forum until I actually looked for it. If you go to Finland (for example) and commit murder, are you innocent because you didn't read the law of the land... pfft. I realize that they players were not trying to break the testing, but the holier then thou attitude needs to be removed from any side of the argument (I am not white knighting the devs they where pretty harsh, but as devs they can be). This generation of self-entitlement needs to have a major wake-up call, maybe WW3 so that they can start realizing that we are all creatures like dogs, cows (mmm tasty beef) and cats with a few extra brain cells and not untouchable angels or demi-g'ds. I may get flak for saying all this but it is true and I stand by it, it is almost as if the human race is in Devolution (just look at ISIS).
  13. 3-5 minutes is a bit soon for autokick... 15 is never going to be battle length and kicking a guy that could win you the game but needs a pee is unfair (although he could at least warn players... I need toilet or ... I have mother at door).
  14. Fridays all the keys are released usually, sometimes this gets a bit late and happens on Saturday. Mine happened at 10PM GMT+2 on a Friday in December. So I think this Friday (I ordered mine on Friday morning and got it same day), however 1 week won't change the price of cheese (or grog). Happy sinking!
  15. A simple solution should be that if you are AFK for 15 minutes you sink... finished and klaar!
  16. Fused explosive weapons are pretty ineffective against a ship (including mortars), near the time of the ironclad none fused explosive shot was used by the French...and then were adopted by other nations phasing out round shot however this would break the game for 3 reasons: 1) Like a mortar it can damage "soft" targets and cause fires. 2) Like a cannon it can penetrate a Ship 3) Like a boss it won't require fuses.
  17. I have just found a nice way to win battles, a guy crossed my snow in a cutter (I think by accident) and I hit him and sank, I realize that even with a repair nothing saves a sinking snow however even if a ship has got a weak bow it seems a very exploitable tactic (which I have to say has worked very nicely twice for me). You have created an anti-ram mechanic that promotes ramming by crossing another ship at the correct moment and letting him bump you with his bow, the easiest way to prevent rams is to lower the damage or set the damage to 50% of the bow MAX... and basically no damage to the strong side of a ship. Please lower the ramming damage as I do not believe a cutter would survive a hit from a large armed brig (snow) and I doubt the brig would sink and the cutter not even take water.
  18. Wind wasn't displayed on the compass so it can be displayed however the devs want. Compass can have degrees (many naval ones of the era did in fact) however it should also have basic bearings e.g.: N S E W NEE etc.
  19. I think a better idea is that each gun has moral, if a gun crew gets hit that moral drops... on a big ship a raking shot would do a lot of damage... but considering a lot of ships were beyond repair in that era and fought until they were unable to fight (usually due to listing to the side) I really don't think even this would be realistic. Sail ship combat was hard and tough, I don't think we need suppression on top of a raking shot killing half the crew...
  20. I think it used to be in batches, but now if you order it before or early enough on Monday they will release it... maybe not same day if you think of it they have to email all the keys (slowly and correctly) while they are busy sweating and trying to get the game out. So I think Friday batches are correct, otherwise I demand a premium Victory with all guns being 64 pounders I think the old system was in batches on a whenever it is ready bases, maybe that is causing our confusion?
  21. I see , they really didn't make it clear enough that the things were handed out in locked batches and only were allowing players that bought before that in... anyway I have far 2 many games to play at the moment (Star Citizen etc.) and I presume it is for server load issues.
  22. How does it work? Do keys go out every Friday or at specific dates? I keep hearing both?
  23. Wait, GMT is two hours behind ours and the forum 2 hours ahead (facepalm).
