  1. J'imagine que l'un des 1ers objectifs des FR va être de récupérer la Guadeloupe, non ?
  2. Already in this thread : http://forum.game-labs.net/topic/22494-player-selected-ship-2017/?do=findComment&comment=463647
  3. The exact sentence is : i guess devs will need time to make a preselection
  4. Le Jason is a 52-gun frigate that carries a light armament compared to say USS Constitution, as she was built in early 18-th century. But very nice looking, isn't she ? Le Jason French Frigate 52 guns 1724 Built by G. Poirier at Le Havre. Dimensions : 124' x 33' x 15'6" Armament : 22 x 12-pdr + 24 x 8-pdr + 6 x 4-pdr (according to the annual Navy List, see below and Boudriot, p. 35) 22 x 18-pdr + 24 x 6-pdr + 6 x 4-pdr (in 1740, according to 3decks) Plans available at : Museum of the French navy, n° J.9q-6951 Boudriot, History of the French Frigate, p. 28-29 Source : Boudriot, History of the French Frigate, p. 28-29, 35 https://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=2296
  5. Having been launched out of the time frame (1843), she seems overpowered compared to the other 50-gun Heavy Frigate, USS Constitution, doesn't she ? The former carried 32-pdr and 18-pdr guns while the latter 24-pdr and 12-pdr.
  6. From the thread you quote : ______________________________ So why choosing this one ?
  7. But what is true nowadays was also true in the 18-th century. That makes it impressive : Some thoughts about that from someone who's actually been living the experience, @Surcouf ?
  8. Indeed ! I've just came across the fact that France also made two 24-pdr frigates in 1772, 'light' ones in a way as they carried only 38 guns : La Pourvoyeuse et La Consolante. Your Saint Nicholas would feel less alone
  9. Thx for this complete answer . The question remains : what is Admin looking for, when he asks in this poll : The French Hermione implemented in the Testbed and the Spanish Diana selected during the last poll are both 12-pdr frigates with 26 portholes and carrying, at least on paper, 32 guns, on which you can add almost as many guns on the QD/fc as you wish. So what is a light frigate in NA if not the Hermione ? A 9-pdr one ? A 12-pdr ship carrying say 20 guns on the gundeck and 12 on the QD/fc ? I just ask that question to know what to suggest in this poll and to know what we'll be able to play in NA.
  10. A 34-gun frigate carrying 24-pdr guns and oars !
  11. My point about Boudriot choosing the lowest number was more about the number of guns on the Quarterdeck / forecastle : most of the time, Boudriot estimates that number at 6 guns on the 12-pdr frigates while you give a maximum of 12 guns and Gamelabs put 16 guns on the Hermione.
  12. @Surcouf Boudriot describes most of French 12-pdr frigates built between 1748 and 1790 as carrying between 26 and 36 guns, very often 32 guns (26 x12 + 6 x 6) as it is the case for the Hermione. See History of the frigate, p. 156-157. Does it mean that Boudriot used to choose the lowest possible number (is it the nominal one ?) of guns when estimating it in his work ? (And Gamelabs... the highest one ? )
  13. About the replica, @Surcouf will know it ! The official web site says (in French) 6 x 6-pfr on the QD : https://www.hermione.com/projet/le-defi-de-lhermione/ Doesn't Gamelabs want to mix 9-pdr frigates and 12-pdr ones when it comes to Light frigates (from 26-gun Cerberus to 38-gun Surprise) to have only 9-pdr ones ? Interesting question to me.
  14. C'est important pour certains joueurs italiens, portugais, hollandais (...) d'avoir les p'tits navires de leur pays.
  15. 1) Well because it's... allowed : 2) No. And not enough of the other nations
  16. @admin The French Hermione is described by sources as a 32-gun frigate (26 x 12-pdr + 6 x 6-pdr) : J. Boudriot, History of the French Frigate, p. 156 https://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=11163 NA has implemented her in the Testbed with 42 guns (26 x 12-pdr + 16 x 6-pdr), if I ain't mistaken. Why ? Is it a matter of game design, to have all the Light frigates (32-36 guns) exclusively carrying 9-pdr guns ? Does it mean that the Light Frigates that'll be selected in this thread will have to carry 9-pdr ? Btw the Spanish Diana (1792) is also a 32-gun frigate with 12-pdr. Will she be implemented with 32 guns or more, or not ? ________________________________________ Diana was one of the six Mahonesas-class 12-pounder frigates built at the Mahón shipyard in Minorca. Her designer Julián Martín de Retamosa, Ingeniero General of the Armada, perfected the English and French construction techniques that had influenced the Spanish shipbuilding during the 18th century. Diana participated in the evacuation of the Spanish forces at the Siege of Roses during the French Revolutionary Wars. She was the fastest one of her class and was reputed one of the best frigates built by the Spanish Royal Navy. Pictures / 3-Decks
  17. I guess now ships are made for OW NA and NA Legends, so the argument about the colonies in the Caribbean Sea doesn't stand anymore (if it ever...). IMHO ship selection is not a matter of nationality but of... ships. I'm sure there are always some nice US and British ships out there we need. All nationalities with nice ships and, in particular, available plans deserve to be in game. Plan availability is the key point. Still waiting for a greek frigate btw. And a 20/24-gun French (3-masted) corvette. And more light frigates (one of the purposes of this thread). And...
  18. Ships carrying 32-36 guns are needed to fill in the gap between La Renommée et La Belle Poule. Moreover, 6th Rates and 5th Rates are principal ships for newcomers, casual gamers and, I guess, most of the potential NA players. Shouldn't Sols remain rare ? Besides, I'd say that in game there aren't enough three-masted "small" ships carrying between 20 and 36 guns (3 right now : USS Rattlesnake, HMS Cerberus and La Renommée, right ?).
