  1. Let's not speak for the others 🙂 Already suggested and I am all for it.
  2. An idea of content for the PvE server : being able to send several of one's own ships in different directions of the OW at the same time and being able to teleport the captain aboard these ships (ie being able to take control of any of these ship, give her a new direction, enter the nearest port...) and being able teleport the captain from a sailing ship to an outpost (to manage production, buying, selling, crafting) and vice versa, while several of one's ships are sailing in OW. It would allow ppl to do several things at the same time. Less AFK. The number of ships sailing at the same time could be limited. + Aggressive AI forcing the player to keep an eye on every of one's own ships in the OW. When a player is aboard a ship or in an outpost, his other ships sailing in the OW are considered as bots and can ba attacked by human players.
  5. Bibliography about B. Ollivier on Ancre. fr : B. Ollivier, Traité de construction navale (in French) B. Ollivier, Remarks on the Navies of the English and the Dutch (in French and English) G. Delacroix, 64-gun Le Fleuron 1729 (in French, Spanish, English, Italian) Also lots of information about B.O. in Boudriot's History of the French frigate, La Renommée and La créole.
  6. because cookies good yummy ! you must share with nice lttile friends the cookies ! and too many cookies make you fat.
  7. That's indirect PvP in a way, if you see what I mean (you indirectly attack other human player's interests by attacking his bots). I for one am not sure it matches the philosophy of the Peace server. I'd prefer to see global attacks of bots giving advantages to the attackers without hurting other human player gameplay. Like in this example : Human players blockade an enemy port, killing all AI traders trying to enter. After a while, they get a kind of reward/ransom from the enemy homeland. The city keeps her nationality. And during this period, the human players in this city live their lives, not affected by this warfare. But it is just my opinion. However, I really like the fact NA devs try and find ways to add content to the PvE server.
  8. Blaise Ollivier (first half of the 18th century) Blaise Ollivier gave the oldest and the most detailed definition of the corvette at his time and its uses : "A corvette is a small frigate with oars that carries 4-18 guns (...) used for privateering, escorting small fluyts, scouting and delivering orders and mails in the Navy". I haven't quoted all his technical recommandations but they can be seen in the plan of the graceful La Palme (12 4-pdr) made in 1744 by his son, Joseph-Louis, at the age of 15 year-old. It influenced the following plans, such as those of his sons' (see L'Amarante of 1747...). Moreover, as @Malachi wrote in another thread, "the adoption of the modern frigate design by all the navies of Europe in the 1740s and 1750s was due to the influence exerted by Ollivier's La Médée (Medea) and his sister ships" (Boudriot). Plans of La Médée at the Danish National Archives and in Boudriot's History of the French Frigate. Other things could also be said about B. Ollivier, about his association with naval sculptor Caffieri and about his sons's work... See also Malachi's post.
  9. I would have bet @Surcouf would be the first to say that one. +1. Best conclusion possible to this thread 🙂
  10. However, in game, we have USS Essex (right ?), not HMS Essex, as we have HMS Surprise with her British armament and not L'Unité with the French armament.
  11. Devs chose to give all NA ships full carronades. That's non historical but a choice of gameplay. On this basis, giving LRQ and USS Niagara 32-pdr carronades is not an absurdity while the other '6th Rates' have between 12 to 24 pdr caronades. IRL, LRQ carried 9-pdr guns and USS Niagara 32-pdr carronades. They both deserve 32-pdr carronades in the game while the others that carried 4 to 6-pdr guns deserve 12 to 24 carronades. What could be irrelevant is using here the British rate system, grouping all the ships from the 6-pdr Lynx to the 9-pdr LRQ in the same group. If you use for small ships a system based on the caliber of guns as I suggested here, the problem is solved. We have : Group 1 (ships carrying (4 to) 6-pdr guns or 12 to 24-pdr carro) : Cutter, Lynx, Pickle, Privateer, Brig, Navy Brig, Snow, Rattlesnake, Prince. Group 2 (ships carrying 9-pdr guns or 32-pdr carro) : Niagara, LRQ, Hercule, HMS Cerberus, Pandora, Surprise, La Renommée. etc. I for one like shorter battles. Matter of taste. 🙂
  12. On the PvE Peace Server, I guess the best solution would be that economic warfare gives advantages to human players who win it against bots but without penalizing the human ennemies, a bit like in Sid Meier's Pirates when you attacked a city, won and got a ransom form it. IIRC, in Sid M's Pirates, the city kept her nationality but became poorer. One could imagine in NA that human players in that city could still craft, product, etc. as before. Human players blockade an enemy port, killing all AI traders trying to enter. After a while, they get a kind of reward/ransom from the enemy homeland. The city keeps her nationality. And during this period, the human players in this city live their lives, not affected by this warfare.
  13. Blockade of a port (ie cutting off supplies, war material and communications) by preventing any AI traders from entering a given enemy port ?
  14. A new rating system could be imagined for NA, mixing the historical British and French systems, with 8 'rates' : 1) The French system for the smaller ships (based on the pdr of guns or carronades) : Ships carrying 6-pdr guns : Cutter, Lynx, Pickle, Privateer, Brig, Navy Brig, Snow, Rattlesnake, Prince... Ships carrying 9-pdr guns : Niagara, LRQ, Hercule, HMS Cerberus, Pandora, Surprise, La Renommée... Frigates carrying 12-pdr guns : Belle Poule, L'Hermione Frigates carrying 18-pdr guns : Frigate, Pirate Frigate, Essex, Trincomalee Frigates carrying 24-pdr guns : Endymion , Indefatigable... 2) The British system for the Sols (based on the number of guns) : 3rd-Rates : as actually in game 2nd-Rates : as actually in game 1st-Rates : as actually in game
  15. All the in-game Frigates and the corvette that carried between 9-pdr guns on their Gun Deck and are currently classified 5th Rates in game must logically remain together (that is : HMS Cerberus, Pandora, Surprise and La Renommée) but, IMHO, not in the same 'Rate' as the heavier frigates such as : Frigates carrying 12-pdr gun : Belle Poule, L'Hermione Frigates carrying 18-pdr gun : Frigate, Pirate Frigate, Essex, Trincomalee Frigates carrying 24-pdr gun : Endymion , Indefatigable 5th Rate group being too broad certainly explains partly the reclassification of HMS Indefatigable as a 4th rate. The historical UK rates dont have to be followed to the letter. There's a life outside them. They can be a bit rearranged. (btw French classification by pdr as above is much better 😉)
  16. When one fight against the Revolutionary France, one can't be free. And when one fight later for Napoleon, one can't be free either. Speaking of that, here is a another possible addition to the French flags, assuming NA accepts land flags (I don't know if it serves as a naval ensign) : Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy (1805-1814)
  17. Yes. Constitution is the new 3d model and United States the old one. No, in-game Surprise has always been British HMS Surprise, the refitted, rearmed and renamed British version of the captured French L'Unité. The hull is French but the armament, the refitting, the name and the sailors are British after capture. You can either classify her as French if what matter is who built her or British if what matters is what version is in game. But, if ever the French version were to be implemented (she won't), she'd be named L'Unité.
  18. First off, take it easy Second, bring a smile to your face And finally, say to me : 'Thx for the information' or 'Thx but I knew that'. 🙂
  19. It could be very interesting on the PvE server to make the currently-implemented simple kill, letter, etc. missions more complex, adding agressive enemy bots on the road, giving a mission several goals (deliver a letter + patrolling +...), etc. But that requires a tremendous investment for GL devs. Will it be their future priority ?
  20. 😮 'A cheap thank you/reward' ? Look at this : Tens of work hours. And a beautiful outcome. Given as a free redeemable DLC ship to EA testers. 12 euros x number of EA testers = cheap ?? Come on ! I know lots of players prefer big ships and I for one do like small ones. Thus it is a great gift for me. But preferring 'a small amount of reals, small amount of doubloons, and possibly up to level five crafting' ? Come on !!!!
