  1. @Ligatorswe Thx for your answer. Very interesting ! So you confirm that some ships but not all had white paint in the end of the 1700s, right ? So, those ships were white all year, not only in winter ? The pic you posted shows a black and white paint (with red or brown inside). Do you have pictures, maybe paintings, showing all white Sweden hulls ? Was the upper deck also white sometimes ?
  2. Admin asked a good question I haven' seen any answer yet, so I open a quick thread to enable any naval expert / historian / etc. to see it. Interesting from an historical standpoint and for the content in game : Anybody has an answer ?
  3. I currently play NA. However, even someone who has never played NA would be entitled to write what you quote of me. Have a nice day 🙂 PS : who are you to tell lies about me like I don't play. What's the motivation ?
  4. It's all about ship DLCs some players can't bear, calling them P2W. If you hadn't mentioned the Rettvisan, they would have raged about the Hermione, once free in the game and now... etc.
  5. Some weeks I play more (<15hrs), some weeks I play less but I'm a casual according to your standards if I divise my playing hours by the numbers of years since I bought the game (late 2015!).
  6. Please provide statistics that confirm that. Those who buy are those who have the capacity (money), in particular those who work and don't have much time to grind, craft, collect, etc. and spend time in game and thus prefer to buy DLC. 'I mean look at' me. 1 account.. Casual. buying DLCs.
  7. Nice that casual get bigger ships via ship DLCs. More PvP. More players. because of the metric system ? 🙂 #wedontcareaboutrates
  8. Creating new ships is very costly. I'm happy if ship DLCs help implementing new ones. btw Pandora is free for EA testers.
  9. @Baptiste Gallouédec Hoping these ships will get something too. I guess it takes time and work... Not sure every ship will get an additional paint. I don't know whether or not you read this additional hint :
  10. Lots of imprecisions about "what I said" (in another thread) and lots of colors... Please quote me (if you really want to discuss), don't rephrase approximately and wrongly what I wrote. 🙂 However, our only contradiction lies in the fact that I'd prefer a rating in terms of gun pdr (6-pders, 9-pders, 12 to 24-pdr frigates...), especially given the currently in-game carro split (12 to 24-pdr carro for 6-pders, 32-pdr carro for 9-pdrs and above, etc. ) while you want to keep the current rating with rates and give all 6th 'rates' lighter carro. No big deal. Any opinion is interesting. I remain open. Anyway, devs (who decide) have currently chosen a third way : 32-pdr carro for all 9-pdr ships (following their in-game split rule) All 9-pdr ships (including light frigates/corvette) in shallows (IMO a nice move as 9-pders need to be together and need 'protection' from heavier frigates. It gives them an place where they can be fully used) Missions by rate (which seems to be in contradiction with the two previous points) It also has a side effect. It mixes 6-pders and 9-pders in the same group/area (in the '6th-rate group' and in the shallows), making 6-pders weaker, especially as carro are the rule. According to Admin, 9-pders were meant to be the 'lineships of the shallows'. They are. Time to find a way to give both 6-pders and 9-pders a chance.
  11. One suggestion : being able to choose the enemy ship (Cutter, Renommée...) in (bot) kill mission. Your reward is calculated depending on the ship you choose for you, from 0 (if your ship is much bigger) to... + You can take this kind of mission as often as you want in any port. + enemy bots can be captured or not ?
  12. Current in-game carronades act as a kind of simple multiplier of the power of the guns (pdr and number of guns) : the smallest 6th rates get full 12-pdr carro, the medium ones get full 18-pdr carro, the heaviest gets full 24-pdr carro the 9-pders get full 32-pdr carro the heavier frigates (carrying 12-pdr to 24-pdr guns) get 32-pdr to 42-pdr carro. Etc. thus, in-game full carro act as powerful full guns. Is full-carro a good thing ? That's an open debate. It's not historical. But one advantage is that it sets on equal footing ships built before the invention of carro and those built after. A good thing for a game that wants both to have ships from 1680 to 1820 while locating its action ca. 1805. For example, should older 9-pdr ships (not carrying carro) be weaker than more modern 6-pders (carrying carro IRL) in game, knowing that IRL they couldn't meet as the older ones had been destroyed before the building of the more modern ones ? Open debate. (edit) with ships labelled 'rare' in game getting special buffs, the historical argument unfortunately carries less and less weight in this game...
  13. This flag was used by traders that sailed from/to the Martinique, ie mainly by slavers. Nowadays, this flag is connected with slavery in this island. Thus, it could be very offensive in a game.
  14. I've never posted anything about the poods. I just give my opinion about the Prince. 🙂 Moreover, 6-pders must be promoted (e. g. by taking away 9-pders from them, etc), not thrown in the garbage by artificially making some of them 9-pders and let the others unplayed. NA must move toward diversity (playing 6-pders and 9-pders and 12-pdr frigates and...), not give any ship the same armament (ie 32-pdr carronade and above) and make Prince = LRQ for example. I like the Prince... as she is.
  15. First, it is a comment from a poster. The original letter should be found first to serve as a real source. Second, what does it say ? IMO that the day of capture, she may have had 18 guns, that is : out of 6 guns, some were 9 long guns, others were 12-pdr guns (As privateers, they put what they had at hand) the 12 others were 12-pdr carronades Thirdly, Gardiner says she usually had 2x6-pdr (guns) + 16x12-pdr (carro). It is the armament she was meant to have. Nothing that justify to give her 20 x 32-pdr carronades (or 20 x 9-pdr guns). The game gives her 16x18-pdr (carro) + 4 x24-pdr (carro) + bow and stern chasers. That's more than enough for her. She's a 6-pdr ship. Period. What do you want ? Give every ship in game 32-pdr carro ? Yes. The Prince is not a well-handled 6th rate, she's a well-handled 6-pder while LRQ is a well-handled 9-pder and having 24 guns, a currently well-handled 6th rate. I know you love the Prince. Not a reason to buff her unreasonably. 🙂
  16. According to R. Gardiner, Warships of the Napoleonic Era, the Prince only had 2x6-pdr (guns) + 16x12-pdr (carro) : According to threedecks, she had only 18 guns. In game, she can have : 20 x 6-pdr (guns) or 16x18-pdr (carro) + 4 x24-pdr (carro) + bow and stern chasers It seems (more than) fair. Prince is a very good 6-pdr ship with a great sailing profile, compared to in-game square-rigged 6-pders, such as Brigs and Corvettes (Rattlesnake). But she is not a 9-pdr ships like LRQ and thus she does not deserve 32-pdr carronades. (Things may be simpler for the Prince if 6-pdr ships and 9-pdr ships (Niagara, LRG, Cerberus, Pandora, La Renommée, Surprise) were separate but right now the 6th rate group mixes 6-pders and 9-pders.) So, IMO, the answer is no 9-pdr (guns) / 32-pdr (carro) on the Prince. PS : you are talking about a fight between a 6-pdr ship (your small Prince) and a 18-pdr frigate (the 'Pirate frigate') !!!!!
  17. Just got my French Cerberus from the Painter DLC. Very nice !!! One of my favorite ships with my favorite paint scheme...
  18. Le Requin = Paint schĂšme of the historical ship model of Le Requin (or L'Indiscret, her sister ship) that was made at the same time as both ships (1750). Colors : black, brown, red ochre, gold (sculpture) Model displayed at the Naval Museum with several pics (details) here. The sails could be all white (as above) or even better, two white and one red ochre as below : PS : differences in the colors (ocre, white...) of the sails was a way to recognize a known ship at sea.
  19. A Flag for France : the Provence ensign Seen on several French Xebecs painted by Antoine Roux in 180x (traders ?), such as :
  21. @Haratik Hoping we'll get info about Spanish shipbuilders of typical Mediterranean designs (xebec, felluca, polacre...), such as the Majorcan shipbuilders who built Le Requin and the other xebecs for the French Navy.
