  1. how about modelling the later sister ship wich got its hulllines changed so it doesnt capsize that easy.

Maybe that too, but it's not that "legendary" and having some serious drawbacks is the way to have it on low tiers.

I forgot about wide broadside previously - that is another one.

  2. Really the Wasa?

How are we supposed to sail her?

She sank right away at her very first journey when she first encountered real winds outside the harbour..

Im sorry Im trolling you a bit but yeah why not.

A ship of the line of a dutch or swedish hand.

The dutch also prioritised low draft since they have very shallow coasts.

This lead to a very stump hull design wich obviously made them a lot more drifting to winds than their (74-)sisters.

    edit:

I will never realize that since I have no idea about the time in wich the Wasa sunk so stupibly.

point for you I guess :P

Not that wasa. You are thinking of the 1627 Wasa.

Im talking about the 1778 Wasa.

The 1778 Vasa was in service up to 1827.

So many great ships, not enough great 3d artists. Swedish ships really look very good. And thanks for the Rattlesnake hint.. lovely ship. Will put it on the list.

We actually worked with Axeonalias - creator of the LAurore and one of our frigates is based on that ship (it is not in game now) but you can see it on some old screens from last summer http://www.navalaction.com/blog/2013/7/21/summer-update  That frigate will come back soon (1-3 months). It needs  re optimizing for bigger battles. He also did Bellona for us (old version) but we wrecked it, and built a new one. As his version was too performance heavy and it was faster to make a new ship.

We promised in the beginning of this year and we will make it happen. We plan to actively use community created content - we just need more time to finalize specs. With the onset of Unity 5 this could be further delayed, but not by much.

There IS a way to balance 1627 Vasa and to model it's mechanics the way it would work ingame. Judging by what happened:

    1. It would be unwieldy in side-winds, the stronger the worst and prone to heavy listing - to the point of problems with aiming.

1A. There should be special mechanics developed of closing bottom deck embrasures after certain degree of list and thus limiting its broadside by half - justified real life scenario to prevent flooding because of bad design.

    2. Unwieldy in heavy sea states too, maybe with limiting broadside by half mechanics too? (reasonable irl)

    3. If you want to cripple it even more, you can develop mechanics of automatic partial sail dropping in emergency scenarios when list becomes to heavy - but i don't think that much is needed.

So, it wouldn't be a hightier material: it's a heavy hitter definitely, but very limited and vulnerable without support. Almost one-trick pony probably but a ship to have, if only from PR reasons (and a beauty, too). I would advise to get to that asap, it will definitely bring more audience to the game.

Still, Swedes had more very interesting ships so i'd wait for those too (in due time).

  3.

    We wonder.

Why should 74 turn significantly slower than a Constitution for example? At high speed yes. it would be risky due to height (Vasa), but at an average speed, with its sail area and rudder size what would limit its turning? If 74s were bricks why it was mass produced. Lets say I trim my 74 perfectly well, close lower gunports, why should

    Traverse drag.

So basically compare hull longitudinal crossection below water line against sails area, if you want estimate wind-assisted turn rate. I think that hull surface quality can be omitted for now.

Oh, and drag grows in 2nd power with speed, so basically 60*/min is 4x power consuming as 30*/min.

Hmm, seem to me, that more calculations would be needed to achieve higher precision because hull length definitely is important...

Your assumption may be quite correct. Or, they were just "manageable" and nobody mentioned that because it was quite obvious back then?

  4. Seems that this thread is lacking a few pics for some people ;) .

Mast actually consists of several pieces joined together, it is not a one "tree". Topmasts could (and sometimes) were lowered in anticipation of stormy weather (not only sails).

Connection with hull, historically. Pictures of Vasa (heavy).

Lower deck, mast column visible - clearly mast heel is deep in the hull:

Here are interesting US Navy instructions on raising masts in several ways, with good pictures, i suggest looking if not reading: http://archive.hnsa.org/doc/luce/part2.htm

  5. I'd volunteer to be at least temporary mod for Polish subforum if you make it and i could help with some translations.

It seems to me that you need all major EU languages, because that's what sells games now... While English is "common language" and is widely understood at least on basic level, majority of casual players still feels not comfortable with using it and prefers their own in forums/interface/portal etc.
