  1. ppl worry about FPS way to much...your TV works on a 25-30 fps basis as do most films. You don't see people complaining about frame rates then. If its 30 or above with a large number of players being in the area....don't worry

please lets not start a fps debate...

Anyway, sometimes with new patches, graphics settings get reset.  Maybe check the settings.

  2. We (french) never had any intention of attempting to take Aves

Pretty much.  We had zero intention of actually planting the flag.

Getting us all there and not taking that opportunity to do something useful with it was just as bad then. Had there been another 2-3 prong attack while we were tied up in Aves "taking the bait" you guys might have had a chance to do some actual damage.

We were looking for PVP pure and simple.

If mechanics were there so that allies could join in the port battle, it would have been a different story probably.

  3. Already moved to the suggestions forum, and it's not on equal terms since they will sink the ship after you capture it which is why I went to tribunal first.  But I am content with moving this to the suggestions forum.

It's still showing in Tribunal for me....

This is not against the current rules, so no tribunal should have been made.  I don't think the captured ship is considered "green" by the game unless you take command.  But I agree, the mechanic needs some work.

  4. Please close this thread or relocate it to suggestions forums.  This not a tribunal case.

The issue is that the OP is ok with competing for the Brit trader.  But competing should also mean to shoot at the French who decided to come in.  Realize that the current mechanics blocks the French from shooting at you as well, so you are on equal terms.  Yes I agree the mechanic is somewhat odd and needs fine tuning.

To the OP, posting this in the suggestions forums without name calling would have resulted in a much better discussion imo.  Why bring this to tribunal? You were solo hunting in enemy contested waters...what did you expect?

  5. All this forum PVP makes for a interesting read...

I think it's important to note that without proper diplomatic mechanics in game, no person or group of people speaks for a entire nation.  We do not have nations.  What we have is anarchy.  Different clans, with different goals, different strategies across all nations.

The nation that can unify its player base towards a single goal and strategy will have the advantage.  Of course there's the whole numbers advantage, but that is a separate discussion ;)

  6. ..

In addition, as I posted in another thread, there simply need to be far more additional XP earning mechanics: diplomatic missions, courier missions, trade missions, exploration missions (or simple 3-5 XP for each Port you visit, actually encouraging people to travel).  As it stands now there is little incentive at all in PVE to go more than a few islands from your home port.  Nothing really encouraging.  No long-range missions, no trade missions, no point in sinking further away from your port/outpost.

I've been following the game for a long time, thoroughly intrigued...but the content is really really shallow.  At this point it doesn't have the depth to really draw me to play every day.  There is a heapload of potential, but it's sitting pretty flat right now.

This.  Missions need to be more then just go kill this other AI.  Exploration, courier etc.  Make people have to travel the map and risk being caught in PVP.  Risk vs reward should be properly balanced.  For the first few missions, yes make them close to port and easy, but after that, it needs more.

  7. My last three small battles were pure free cutter / yacht affairs, recalling to me all the bad aspects of early Sea Trials battles.

But once you are in any other ship other then free cutter, you loose it right?

Yes, I've been in a few small PVP battles and it's early sea trials all over again....no teamplay, no chat, just pure grind XP to the next ship.

  8. Problem is, surviving a storm means doing the same thing for eight or twelve or thirty-six hours.

You'd have to have scripted events like man overboard, things breaking, wind shifts, etc. The core gameplay would just be fighting with the rudder to stay on course.

That's why I was questioning.  I can't really see any actual fun gameplay being in a storm, unless they implement many different scripted events.  I just don't think it is really worth the time and effort at this point.  Anyone who sailed in sea trials on storm map trying to get that last AFK player upwind will probably understand.

  9. Looking back to when I started this game and we were still in Sea Trials the beginner's experience was much more impressive at least for me. You could instantly see and experience the potential FUN this game could be by joining a pvp battle and it made a good impression and got me hooked fast.

I don't know about others but I never logged in thinking: ''Wow, I can't already wait to farm this 3-pack of bots to get my next rank/ship.'' I didn't even notice the ''grind'' because I was too busy having fun. Since OW the whole rank system has felt like a dull grindwall to climb over to reach to the content of this game that interests me personally most.

Make people see this game like we saw it back in sea trials...

So true.  I really hope to see this again in the current OW.  Large scale PVP battles.  It's where the game really shines.

  10. ...

Using tab would make it quite easy, to easy imho.

    ...

Seriously.  Plus this would be an outright cheat once camera is limited.  It's really not that hard to click on a sail on the horizon.

There's nothing hard about the way it currently is, its just not efficient.  The only problem I can see is people spamming "TAB" to locate ships, but really not a big deal.  Its a age of sail game, most of the time the enemy can be minutes away.

There is maybe a technical limitation, where you can "tab" a ship on the other side of the island and that's why the DEVS did it the way it is now.  That would seem very gamey to me.

  11. It kinda is.

It's ergonomically frustrating and rather glitchy.

I have to click ten times to pick up a single contact sometimes. Or worse, I find myself unable to select because my own vessel is vaguely in the way, and have to rotate the camera by trial and error until it works.

    I agree.

I've been suffering from tendinitis in both hands for a few months now and it's the main reason why I haven't played OW much or any other game for that matter.  I've really come to see just how much unnecessary clicking and moving of the mouse we have to do.

Lets be clear, hold right click to move around, spot a target then try to left click the tiny pixel sail, then have to move to then click the Hail button has nothing to do with skill.  It's just annoying and unnecessary.  At a minimum, hail should be automatic when you click on a sail without the need to do the button.

Using something like "tab" to target a ship in you line of sight and automatically hail would seem like a more efficient way.  Also make the mouse look around like in the battle instance.

  12. Probably already did some of these...but worth a try.

    - Try/test different in game settings.

    - Re install latest Nvidia drivers, but select custom install.  Make sure to check the fresh install option

    - close all unnecessary background programs, especially virus scanners.

    - You may want to consider a fresh Windows install

    - You may want to try a older or borrow a different vid card to test

    - You may want to consider updating bios as someone has suggested.  Just make sure you know what you are doing if you will try this.

Keep in mind, this is a alpha and there's a possibility the game has a issue with your setup for whatever reason.  Good luck.
