  1. Super excited for coastlines and land masses from the OW map to appear in some battles.
  2. Freezing the balls off a brass monkey!

  3. Had a lot of trouble with a crew less surrendered Cerberus that continued to drift upwind. Trying to get into position to use X to capture proved to be incredibly challenging. I don't believe currents are modelled so it was a bit surprising to have the surrendered and crew less ship evade capture by drifting upwind. While I was able to get the X to capture to come up briefly the battle timer ran out with the Cerberus still floating upwind. Wanted to do a F11 report but didn't manage it before the battle instance ended. If I spot a similar situation in the future I'll definitely put up a report.
  4. Now there's a great vocabulary word!
  5. Fairport Convention.....Rain and Wind

  6. Hanging out with the penguins....

  7. @Dino.707 This topic might be helpful: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/2036-how-to-activate-download-the-game-on-steam/ To activate your Sea Trials key you'll need to be logged into your steam account using the Steam Desktop application. Going to http://store.steampowered.com/ in your web browser is just Steam's online storefront. If you don't have the Steam desktop application installed you will want to click on the green install Steam button on the top right hand corner of the storefront's webpage and follow the instructions. Once the Steam desktop application is installed login to it using your Steam account details. There will be two sets of drop down menus (you want the ones at the very top left of the application. Which from left to right read Steam, View, Friends, Games, and Help). Click on Games and the second option in the menu that appears should be Activate a Product on Steam... Click this and follow the instructions. When it asks for a product code enter your sea trials key. This should get you up and sailing....see Dadur's image above if you're having trouble finding the right drop down menus.
  8. I would pick up one of the Patrick O'Brian novels from your local library or bookshop for while you wait. Also if you really want to know about what sailing these ships was like John H. Harland's Seamanship in the Age of Sail is a good book too and should keep you busy for a while.
  9. a simple color picker in the settings would help with this and make the game even more accessible for colorblind age of sail fans.
  10. Better drowned than duffers if not duffers wont drown.

  11. So many great ships in this poll. I like the idea of the Dutch Indiaman so I voted for the Amsterdam. The Rattlesnake and the Bonhomme Richard would be really fun too.
  12. In battles I think having names be toggle-able like the UI is currently makes the most sense. Trying to do spyglass checks while maintaining a line and doing all the gunnery and sailing tasks that one might IRL delegate to your officers is going to limit situational awareness more then it increases immersion. Over longer distances in say the open world having a distance at which player names fade out or require a spyglass to see might make for some interesting gameplay and could be worth looking into.
  13. Observing the frigate birds from the quarterdeck.

    Reporting for duty!

As Leviathan says the sailing is a bit more hands on and the sense of commanding a ship that is pitching around (especially on the stormy maps) is very impressive. The old Age of Sail games have a more top down feel and show their Talonsoft/Akella wargame roots with alot of big fleet action scenarios. Naval Action seems like it will be more of a multiplayer focused game (PVE and PVP). There, has been some discussion of what fleet actions with NPCs as well as other players and some sort of command interface/planning layer might end up looking like in this thread: http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/1846-fleet-commander-gameplay/?hl=fleet.
