  1. Eve type of character page works fine for me. Most things in game are from the perspective of my eyes (*most*). And sailing is the focus. The development priorities are correct. Avatars last (if at all).
  2. D'uh, stupid question time: will the game allow female captains? Obviously answer is yes, I assume. I ask only b/c there is so much focus on time period immersion and realism.
  3. I'm really struggling. My heart says France (potbs affiliation). My brain says Denmark, on a Hunch that this nation will be under population. I love an underdog. But my fear is that there will be too few North American players associated with Denmark... It also plays into our society: http://www.waesir.com/hall/ (Warriors of Aesir)
  4. I make no claims as to how accurate it is, but from a 50,000 foot view, it is probably close enough. Fleet power by nation & class of ship: http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=breakdown
  5. Port blockade excluded. That is different in so far as it is an intended game mechanic (I assume). But if I spawn in from the world make and I am instantly jumped in the general area... Well... I'd prefer a potbs type map in that case, then I can at least see what is coming and make a choice. But all of this is speculation for now!
  6. I would like to see Dutch, Sweden, Denmark, and/or Russian. Frigate, SOL, indianman... Which ever, but from those nations
  7. As long as it is not like "gate camping" in eve. Meaning, I know where you're supposed to spawn in from the world map into the general shipping area. It would have to be a huge space with *alot* of random spawn areas. The risk for the merchant man is high.
  8. Very exciting. It is a shame only 3 get selected... Why ever post a seperate topic! All the resources captured here Looking forward to the results.
  9. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2RFM0_ankeret-fra-linieskibet-dannebroge?amp;title=ankeret-fra-linieskibet-dannebroge&guid=bb747925-7e70-46d7-8b02-e6b2db7e3c23 Written in Danish. It have the fleet m movements of Denmark and Sweden, with pictures of the map and fleet formations. The Dannebroge (Danish man-of-war, 94 guns) is sunk. The captain, dispite a ferocious fire on board continued fighting for over an hour holding off the enemy fleet, allowing his own to setup at Port. Would be a great one to reenact, even as a flash back. EDIT: just read the thread fully and realized it was not for missions... So perhaps my recommendation is best in another place?
  10. You have me thinking... The game is to have realism and no magical skills or parlour tricks. But there are bound to be modifiers out there... As you've suggested... To create content that players strive towards. I like the crew ideas alot. These I assume are earned over time, or are these present on all ships and developed with experience over time? (recognizing that this is a proposal)
  11. What bonuses or skill would you propose the captain of the ship has, if any (eg like a skill tree... Or is that taboo?)?
  12. Grim DeGrim Blackboard in 2008, retired on Antigua ~2013. Socities: La Nouvelle France, The Mafia, Sons of the South, Order of the Pheonix Potbs nation: France. Had Broke Buc Mountain as a pirate alt. NA name: Grim DeGrim
  13. I have not read the thread in its entirety, but please may I recommend that when I hit "enter" after using chat box that it takes me back to normal game play. . Meaning no need to hit ESC... And the Eventual keyboard pounding that occurs when I cannot understand why I am either STILL turning or cannot turn at all
  14. That's awesome. Near fell over. Sitting here with my daughter (15 months old) reading the forums when I noticed her name... The ship is beautiful - which is fitting
  15. My thought this past week is that I really lose a sense of scale with the current crew. My brig (largest ship atm, please bear with the example!) does not feel like it could possibly hold 120 crew when I look at the avatars (the deck is near full with 10 that I have on Ultra setting). I am about the combat! I certainly appreciate the trade off for visuals versus fps. But the crew would be "Grace notes" that would polish the game and perhaps add a sense of scale to the ships. PS - if love to have cannon recoil back! Make it a user decision based on their system...
  16. Though many have recommended SOL, I too will throw one in, based purely on the heroic (in other words, ill fated) captain and crew. The Danneborge. "The Danish-Norwegian fleet succeeded in making it back to Copenhagen without suffering any great losses. This was in no little way due to the heroic efforts of Captain Iver Huitfeldt on board the man-of-war DANNEBROGE. Despite a violent fire on-board, he kept up the fight thus drawing the Swedish fleet’s attention away from the rest of the ships. After an hour's battle, the man-of-war exploded killing nearly 600 men – including Captain Iver Huitfeldt." http://www.navalhistory.dk/english/history/navybefore1801.htm Give this ship an armor bonus and a magazine penalty! (no, just pick and make the ship) Specifics: Name: DANNEBROGE Specs: Launched 1692, Exploded & Sunk Oct 4 1710 Complement: 600 Armament In 1710: 20 × 8-pounder bronze cannon 22 × 14-pounder cannon 26 × 24-pounder cannon 4 × 4-pounder cannon 4 × 14-pounder iron howitzers[1] Drawing: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dannebroge_galionen.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dannebroge.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dannebroge_%281692%29_-_Agterspejl.jpg http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dannebroge_%281692%29_-_H%C3%A6k.jpg That is all I could find. It met a valiant end. GRIM POST SCRIPT: Though I cannot read the language it is written in, I believe they recount the battle and show the fleet movements. Attached ship model, ill fated positioning (hmmm, make Dannish mission to re-enact the battle and change history...), and LINK:
  17. Wormhole equivalent: Bermuda Triangle Lol, I know, no magical stuff in NA. Though truthfully, that phenomenon still hasn't been figured out and plays into the NA history quite well
  18. Or maybe crew damage is not possible against a DC player? Though boarding certainly was Don't worry Wolf, you still got the W for the match!
  19. I think he legimately DC'd, as I had used 3 repairs by that point from partial broadsides. I actually thought he was going to kill me on the final left turn when he simply stopped. I was disappointed I could not get grape to reduce his crew (do I need to sweep across the top of the deck?). But again, while sitting right beside (err, under as there is a vast height diffence) him I was still thinking I should have some crew damage. Just a thought for discussion.
  20. I'll open with a both an appreciation and apology to Wolf-13. In my largest ship (cutter), I ended up in a 1v1 versus his Victory. Like a Trooper, I tried Stern camping him and it worked somewhat effectively, but was a long process. I died boarding him after he disconnected. To the point: he had (?) 800+ crew. I think I had (?) 20. At close range you would think there would be crew lose from men firing rifles or other short range weapons. Ship ability for camping Stern could be reduced this way if deemed an issue or as grieving.
  21. So many routes with this... It could be unit based (insert proper word... Guild, naval, company, Clan... Player run group). Especially coat of arms. As with all things, submissions monitored and screened.
