  1. I recommend Grant's Memoirs. Also Sherman. Still 2 of my favorite books. If you need some book ideas with reviews, check out Civil War Talk Radio, 377 hours of Civil War book interviews and growing each week....http://www.impedimentsofwar.org/
  2. I believe he is asking if anybody has the formula that would convert the in-game coordinates to real world latitude and longitude so he can use the Google Maps API to place town icons onto google maps automatically.
  3. I realize from above conversations that the API does not have player information. Makes sense...could be used for cheating. I have a question about the files/information that may be on our own computers. I found in the Steam folders a log of in-game chats. It was basically a text file of the full conversations during my time online. Is there a similar log of my activities during game play? I am think of the pop-up "History" box information. The one that says "I sell xxx for xx gold" or "I acquired xxxx for xxx gold" etc. I searched but could not find any files with this information. I'd even do with a binary data file that I need to de-code, but did not find any files with information that looked like this data. It would be great to create a program that could parse this information and then create a "ships log" or "ships ledger." At the end of each session, it would be nice to know if what i am doing created a positive balance or negative balance. But if this information is only through the server, then it may require developer involvement. Just a thought.
  4. I'd be willing to try, but from what I just read over in the API thread, the API only cover seaport data....not personal data of people's ships. That kind of info could be used to cheat. I see in the file structure in my Steam folder, that a log of all chats is stored on our computers per game session. (kinda nice to know) It would be great if there was this type of log of what appears in our in-game "History" tab. Not great info, but a start. If we could find the file, we could throw together a C# program to read and manipulate the data.
  5. I agree. Thought the same thing last night....a ledger would be nice to see. I plan to start keeping a written one.
  6. Do you mean like this? (bad example, I smoothed all edges, but you can set which ones stay sharp and which ones get smoothed) Facets: with smoothing on: I worked on other end...with smoothing...lots of fudging, LOL
  7. ahhh, I see and agree with you. That plane video is nothing like what is required for gaming models. But it is a great way to get started in Blender....learning lots of the tools and interfaces needed within Blender. Plus getting all the Blender key command short cuts down....it is a great exercise....the model is more of a "scribbling on the side of a note pad" than real useful model.
  8. I have no intent to model for this game. I am just learning Blender and happen to be using a ship hull. But thanks for information. I should add a disclaimer .....My post is not intended to show any proficiency with modelling for this game. The developer has yet to release information on specifications for models to be used in this game. Cheers!
  9. I think I fixed the link in my post above.
  10. gimpygary, A friend offered these links a few weeks ago to get me started. Here is Episode 1 of a series...well worth watching all of them in the series. I watched about 4 or 5 episodes to get the basic ideas, then went through them again working in Blender repeating what he did to learn the basics. You should be able to find the rest of series on the authors YouTube page. I then found this video where a guy makes an airplane. The video is in 2 parts. He explained a lot and things just clicked for me...so I decided to use his example, but with the above ship. For the ship, I started with a cube instead of cylinder. More Advanced topics.....I have yet to get this far... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2-FfB9kRmE -UVmapping. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5KcOwCL6RA -Alpha mapping Also, as I worked through things, if I got stuck, I looked up the topic online. The Blender wiki is a useful resource and if you search correct terms you can find lots of examples and video on each topic. Cheers!
  11. Why wait for official documentation? LOL! I am teaching myself Blender for other reasons. Since i have a full set of plans, I decided to try a ship as first project....ya know, start easy! This is great for learning Vertices, Edges and Faces...how to create, manipulate, delete, create again, etc, etc. Also for learning the technique of using background images. HMS Druid 1775 Cheers!
