  1. Six Frigates focus is more on the politics of why or not they were deemed necessary and getting them under construction rather than the juicy fun of building and fighting them. I usually recommend the bio, Cochrane whose exploits would be unbelievable and fantastic if it were not all true and Republic of Pirates for rollicking good sea stories while being good history. Then when they are interested I would steer them into tomes such as SF. Once you have your fish hooked Academia.net has many masters thesis on subjects as arcane as American Merchant Shipbuilding in the 18th Century and A Survey of 18th Century Ship Interiors. Some make surprisingly good reads. Cheers mate.
  2. The has been discussed before. A system such as Silent Hunter Crew Management would be fun, productive and add a lot of visual appeal.
  3. Another sure sign your playing too much Naval Action Mate.
  4. We are starting to veer into the fantasy magical buffs that were prevalent in POTBS. To each his own, I just hate to see it. I would rather see some type of gunnery drill that after practiced 100+ times in OS you would get a slight reload buff and other such, not magical figureheads or flags. ymos, Para
  5. Master Brimstone, while I agree with your assessment on the frequency of Pirate ports we all know that with the frequency of 14yo Pirates with Mommies money to spend on video games there will never be a realistic equilibrium. I think it best to accept it and acknowledge that we shall have a respite from the Pirate menace when school resumes in two months time. I Sir remain YMOS, Para.
  6. Culture schmalter, based on the pictures above I'm kinda liking the whole Dutch vibe. You guys make a wooden shoe in size 13 us?
  7. In another similar game (which shall go unmentioned) being excluded really was not a problem. After a few PBs it gets mundane and the problem actually becomes getting enough players to fill a PB roster. When you figure that it would take 25+/- port battles to register a win and flip the map....well you can do the math.
  8. yes overboard, putting on my Indian war paint now!
  9. If any player, regardless of effort expended (as in zero) has an equal chance of attending a port battle as I do after many hours of raising contention (or whatever we are calling it). What would be my motivation for spending hours to initiate a port battle for a guy that purchased the game 15 minutes ago to attend when I am left out. I understand that some of us have kids and demanding employment and demanding spouses and girl friends softball leagues and darts at the pub ect. Like any human endeavor you only get out of it proportionally what you are able to put into it. No free lunches. Its 2015. You are free to adjust your schedule to what is important for you.
  10. I see your unimpeachable logic at work here. I have "agreed" to the behavior problem by not using block/ignore and disabling global chat rendering those features useless to me and is the recommended solution but cannot be removed from the game because they are essential. Yes I do think its a good idea to remove all trans national in game chat.
  11. If its enough of a problem to ban people why don't you disable Global Chat and Cross Team Battle Chat? BOOM problem solved and would have zero effect on gameplay. Its like obnoxious children on a playground. If its this bad with a couple hundred testers that know or know of each other cant wait see when there are a couple thousand. .
  12. Woot! Finally the core of the game. The manner in which we enter a port battle is of less interest to me than how we trigger a Port Battle. Could the Admin outline that for us. PVP within a given distance from port? What if the port defender refuses to PVP? Port Battles should not be open to everyone. Captains that put in the most effort most should be invited first. If the invite is not accepted it would go to a player in the second tier/round of players involved in port contention. A new player should aspire to and work to join Port Battles not be swept in by lottery. I would prefer a couple days notice to allow me to arrange my schedule (set alarm clock) to be able to attend. One hour notice is going to encourage the night flippers. Will the economy have to be in place before introducing PBs so there is a logic to which ports are chosen for capture? What happens after capturing ports? How will a win be determined? Will the map reset?
  13. The Constellation at Baltimore Maryland is an 1854 Corvette that shares the name and tradition of the original 1797 Frigate. The disparity in crew may come from the fact that the 1854 Constellation fielded 16 8" Main "Shell" guns as well as several Rifled Parrot Guns in the 20-32 pound variety. That's a lot IRON with big gun crews to man it. There have been many claims that it is in part or whole the 1797 Frigate but when you walk her its clear she is from a later era. I was in "Balmer" for business in December and being freshly addicted to the era of sail again through NA I went to see her only to find out she had been towed across the river to the Coast Guard drydock for hull repairs. So disappointed was I at missing her that I shed at least one tear in each of the many beers I consumed at "The Wharf Rat" in Fells Point trying to console myself. I believe she is back in her slip at the Inner Harbor.
  14. Thanks Surcouf, now I have a craving for steamed crabs, broiled rockfish and Natty Bohs, darn yur eyes! Is she narrower in beam from the Pride I? Best vid I've seen showing her deck layout. She makes the Lynx a wanna be.
