  3. I used it for a few hours last night with no issues once all my drivers were installed correctly.
  4. Prater, The implication of this is that you did not show me honor. Let me say, that it dawns on me that you may have seen my introducing this thread a means of criticising you. It was not meant as such you have my apologies if it came out that way. Yamms
  5. Cpt. Prater, So you admit that that your actions were dishonorable (https://yourlogicalfallacyis.com/tu-quoque). The tu quoque fallacy is when you avoid having to engage in with criticism by turning it back on your accuser. It is a red herring and tantamount to admitting defeat. "I may be dishonorable but no more dishonorable than you" you've ceded the point that your actions were dishonorable and accused another person to deflect the heat from you onto them. I don't think it's working. Remember that I did not begin this thread in order to criticize I began it ignored to compliment. Those compliments still stand and as you have admitted so do the criticisms you brought upon yourself. Respectfully, Yamms
  6. Prater, First let me say that my goal here was to praise Raatha not cry foul about your actions. I didn't mention you or the other captains name on purpose as it would have detracted from the compliment I was trying to pay Raatha. Second, and to the meat of what you are saying: I would have accepted the fight with you and the connie without the Santi. I was running with the potential fo escape, I had a long lead on you and was down wind. It may have been possible for me to run or turn and fight. However, once the Santi joined: I asked for a fair fight and Raatha agreed I didn't see any objection from you or the other captain in chat. Raatha asked me to drop sails to begin the battle at beam-reach facing one another you did not object I stopped stern facing you Raatha and I faced off You and the connie sat watching as Raatha and I squared off, didn't fire though you had ample time. You both watched as Raatha and I exchanged at least three broadsides each You didn't engage me until you and the connie were in position to stern rake not a stern chase but broadsides into my stern. You attacked without saying in chat that you had not agreed to the fair fight or even that you would attack While it's true neither you nor the Connie explicitly accepted the terms of 'fair fight' it is not unreasonable for me to assume acquiescence with the proposal given (#1-7) and especially #2, #3 & #6 If you did not accept the terms that the honorable thing would have been to stop me from dropping sails or to propose that we both leave the battle and start again. I get your frustration, it was a cool chase and you and your captains did it well. If there weren't so many other SOLs of your fleet with you I may have engaged much earlier. In the area there were at least 2 Santis, 2 Pavels and the Consti. At one point you were sailing as a fleet and I couldn't be sure that I wouldn't be attacked by four or more ships of the line. Ganking is part of the game, if no one agreed to the fair fight I would have continued fighting running and playing without complaint. I have never complained about being ganked as I understand that it is a risk you take when you leave harbor. My complaint is the less than honorable actions once something else was agreed to. Respectfully, Yamms
  7. Nornica, Raatha didn't get dced as we discussed what he would do in chat. Also if that happened I would have a greed to another restart and a fair fight with the remaining ships or to both exit the battle and start again. The other two ships attacked without warning. Even Raatha didn't realize it until I mentioned it in chat.
  8. Would have been a fair fight for sure if it started like that. By the time I realized who I was fighting I had no stern armor a red rudder and a red pump. The rest was mostly a formality. Though I will admit, my strategy of focusing on sails was a mistake if I had gone for hull shots on the Pavel at the beginning it would have been closer.
  9. I would love to see more of the San Salvador
  10. I want to publicly mention Cpt. Raatha for honorable action last night. He in his Santi along with a Pavel and a Consti attacked me in my Vic. I asked for a fair fight and Raatha agreed to fight one on one. When, after a few minutes of fighting Raatha's fellow captains engaged me as well, Raatha immediately disengaged and exited the battle. Truly honorable action on your part Mr. Raatha you have my admiration. Yamms
  11. I agree, eventually I would like to see missions with boosts to XP or Gold for completing them.
  12. I like the idea, you could incorporate punishment decisions as well. Joe stole from Sam, how many lashes to give? etc.
  13. I couldn't go aboard as there was a private function. However, here are some photos of her rigging, canons etc. http://adobe.ly/1KtjuX1
  14. At a certain point especially late 17th century the bronze cannon were forged mostly in Denmark, the Danes and the English weren't always the greatest of friends, and so the English couldn't even if they wanted to purchase these cannon in great bulk.
  15. and go swimming in the safe full of money?
  16. I just got through reading http://arc.id.au/CannonBallistics.html , http://arc.id.au/ArmstrongPattern.html and http://arc.id.au/ArmstrongPattern.html (I hope that none of you wrote this, otherwise I am putting my foot in my mouth) it seams that the length of the gun could effect the velocity in at least one major way. The length of the cannon determined the length of the most reinforced region of the barrel. The longer the "first reinforce" the more powder could be used, in fact the shorter naval versions used as a compromise with space aboard ship had to be proofed with a lower charge because the naval version would explode if fully charged with a proving charge. The lang based versions seem to have been longer and also have a high MV. In conclusion it seems as though you are both right. There were different length guns with different characteristics and it would not be historical to have the long guns aboard a ship. At leas that is how I read those articles.
  17. If you could go back to the age of sail and bring one object what would it be? I go between something like a set of blueprints for modern guns, a modern assault rifle, a digital watch, complete set of sea charts, matches or penicillin. The only limits on what you bring is that it has to fit in your backpack. You couldn't bring a modern destroyer etc. What would you bring that would change the course of history in favor of your side?
  18. I'm in the middle of a book called "To Rule the Waves" the author mentions that at the time of the spanish armada most countries were using brass cannons which were very expensive. However, the english used cat-iron, they were able to do this because the English iron ore had fossilized seashells in it which, after smelting caused the iron to be much stronger.

  20. I like the sepia. For my taste, there is a bit too much glow around shoreline. Is that to mimic bathymetric data?
