  1. As an Asian, I'm proud to say our "chou", or junk as in foreign language, is one of the best ship developed in naval history. Many of you might know it possesses many variants for different purposes, though most weren't given a specific name. I like the way junk sails were made, its rigging provide duo purpose sailing which enables it to sail in multiple wind directions while using only single type of sail. The battens however has its pros and cons, the additional horizontal beams give the sail more strength then single paneled ones, but these beams also brings more weight which means ships which such sails are more prone to capsize if the load or ballast weren't heavy enough. Regarding hull designs, one of the less known facts is the development of watertight compartments. Junks have a very long history of utilizing such techniques since along the coast of east Asia we have straits with unease waters and risks of encountering typhoons, such threats forced our Chinese ancestors to come up with a better and safer preventive solution known as watertight compartments, the west weren't aware of such designs until the 20th century whereas Chinese had records of using them as early as Song Dynasty, 1119 AD. Sad to say that junks might not be able to enter this game due to its geological background, western ships are certainly grand and powerful, but when it comes to seaworthy and sturdiness junks are my preferred options. -Alpha
  2. I'm totally for what Reb stated here, first of all, no matter how hardcore you guys might want this game to be, remember this is a game. Single player simulation programs allow people to customize how they want to play, but NA is ultimately going to be a MMO(possibly with RPG content loaded), if that's the case, devs should also put playability into consideration. For example, it's sometime hard to type msg in the hype of close range battles, if you want to focus fire, typing the enemy's name is easier than giving out an approx target location and searching them through your scopes. The game itself already has the out-of-sight mech, you won't be able to know the names of friendlies or foes unless you're near enough, identifying ships is the job for lookouts, while admirals and captains receive information and give orders. The warship within itself is a big family, cooperation between crews and captain is no doubt a normal practice. Imo this game already has its learning curve, removing too much information simply for realism may add more burden to newcomers and less skilled players. Peace -Alpha-
  3. Greetings from Taiwan, in case you dunno where it is, Taiwan is a small island located southeast of China Speaks Mandarin, English, some Japanese, und ein bisschen Deutsch Below is one of my many quick sketches, fond of drawing, sorry if it doesn't look good:P
  4. NA and WoT are two games of entirely different genre, guess probably it's the company that bothers you most, but tbh WoT itself isn't that bad and I don't think you need to be harsh on. I play WoT and WarThunder, and aside from the hate against their owners I think they're doing quite well in what they're doing. NA however is entirely another story, I wouldn't even put WoT on the competing side, this is a game which I have ultra high expectations on, the width and depth in such genre means this game wouldn't be as KID friendly as WoT or Warthunder. If I found NA to be anywhere similar to those shooting arcade I would be totally devastated. Alpha
  5. Hello everyone:) this is AlphaCentauri from Taiwan, had been wandering in the forum for about a month or so. I initially ran into this title on YT and was simply amazed by the in-game footage's graphics, details, and realism-though the only minor setback was the lack of bgm, after roaming through NA's homepage and its forum I signed up right away lol Guess there aren't many admirals from the far east world, never played PotBS before but we got a similar Asian counterpart, Great Voyage Online, which also possessed a global server called Uncharted Waters Online. Age of Sail and WW2 related topics are the two categories that never failed to fascinate me, though there aren't lots of references to get my hands on here in Asia, I always managed to dig out some stuff from old libraries and the almighty Internet. People often questioned me about my interests due to its rarity in the Asian community, the answers were quite simple, "Just like loving someone, you never need reasons " Studying medicine in university atm, quite a hard subject to get familiar with, actually things get somewhat tightened and stressful sometimes. Therefore although I've signed up for about a month, this is actually my debut post in the forum, so once again, glad to meet you all and hope we can have a great time in game. Ah and sorry about my english, haven't post an intro of this length for a long period of time, btw really delighted to know that beta is coming See y'all on the high seas, take care Alpha
  6. Cheng He's treasure ship since many in-game ships never sailed in the Caribbean, would've also love to see this wooden behemoth afloat http://asianhistory.about.com/od/china/p/Zheng-Hes-Treasure-Ships.htm
