  1. Ahoy Lads:

Been a while since I posted or even sailed. I'm getting back in to it again so watch out for William Gold in the Mighty Yacht.

My first magic moment was waaaaaaay back in sea trials. I had my first brig and we had a big battle. I think it was the U.S. against us Brits. I was in a line of battle and one of the devs in a Connie gave me a broadside and tore the livin shit out of my little brig. It was spectacular to see. I love the real Connie and even with the old GPU it looked great.

Another time was when I looked in to the stern lights of  one of my frigates and saw the furnishings (for lack of a better word) inside of the great cabin.

After I rebuilt my gaming rig and got to use higher resolutions, I zoomed in and saw wood grain on the ship. I LOVE the graphics in this game.

Lots of good fights. Lots of fun.

    See ya on the Sea.

  2. Country Joe. Real good music.

We have big trout and great fly fishing.

We have big deer, elk, moose.

    Mountains and prairie.

    Most of all, it's home.

    Come back.

  3. I am a land locked lubber. Even river traffic couldn't get up as far as my location on the Missouri. I still dream of going to sea though. To ease the pain I listen to Jimmy Buffett songs. He is from Alabama, right on the sea so many of his songs are about sailing, the Caribbean, and Cheese Burgers in Paradise.

If you are un-familiar with his work, check him out. Some of his titles:

    Pirate Looks at 40.

    Son of a Sailor.

Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.

    Cheese Burger in Paradise.

Livingston Saturday Night. This has nothing to do with the sea but I live in Montana and Livingston is in Montana.

There is a song on his Christmas Album called A sailors Christmas, and Ho Ho Ho and a Bottle of Rum.

I know that we tend to look for music that is good for a sea fight or a good chase but Jimmy just tells some good sea tales that make you feel better.

I have been to sea, back when I was a young Marine, and long for it now and again. I will do so again before I die. I need my prairie and mountains a lot more. I can pixel sail in NA though.

  4. I'm not much for wine but I do think that cheese is a little bit of heaven. If there are any Europeans looking at this, tell me if ye can. Is cheese stupid expensive there like it is here. That manchego that Jean showed is like $10 an ounce where I live. That's some damme fine cheese though.

This whole thread reminded me of a song. Heres the line. The song is "He went to Paris" written by Jimmy Buffett.

    But the warm summer breezes

    The French wine and cheeses

    Put his ambition at bay

    Summers and winters

    Scattered like splinters

And four or five years slipped away

  5. Any notice that someone revived the old Sea Dogs game, Those who have played nautical games forever, like me will have fond memories of it. It is on Steam. Still looks the same too. I had some REALLY good ship fights in that game.

  6. These ideas sound like real pirating. No nation, no loyalty. Some designated islands for bases of operation like Nassau or Tortuga. This could lead to a smuggler/fence type character. Buy from the rats and sell to the nats. Pirates should be able to have more crew in their ships since boarding is the preferred tactic. Instead of Glorious Marines, there should be a pirate badass mod. And yes, port raids. I would like to see privateer mechanics to. Rats used schooners a lot so we should have big schooners in game that can hold 150 men.

  7. Seems like a lot of people vehemently HATE the use of the name Jack Sparrow in game. I agree that the use of any sort of J-a--c&* k Sparrow&)$

is somewhat un-original. We could make some new pirate Jacks like:

    Jack Chickadee.

    Jack Brewer's Black Bird.

Jack Cardinal (for Saint Louis fans)

    Jack Pittsburg Pirates.

    Let's play!

Don't know what to do with Charles Vayne+++

  8. I read in a Rolling Stone article that Keith Richards is an avid fan of nautical fiction. Does he play our game. If he's out there then...Whoah! soo cool.

Big fan of his guitar playing.

    Rum

I like rum and rum. Mount Gay from Barbados is good. Pyrate from the makers of Patrone, from Guyana. Cap'n Morgan is OK but that's it.

WHY IS ALL THE RUM GONE?

  9. I really like the Niagara video. It reminds me of an episode of Myth Busters, the pirate episode. They built a "ship" and shot a found shot at it to find out if splinters were a problem. The results showed that the splinters weren't deadly. They didn't do it right. Their cannon was air propelled and not gun powder propelled. The "ship" was just boards nailed to a frame. I like the Myth Busters but I called Bullshit on their test. That video with the smashers proves that.

Just to toot my own horn, last summer I got to see a live fire exhibition of 1805 weapons. Several small arms and a 1 pounder swivel. It was during the Lewis and Clark Festival, held every June in Great Falls, Montana. The intrepid explorers trod the very ground a block from my house, about 210 years ago. The live fire, no ball, of the swivel was pretty awesome. I really want to shoot an 18 pounder. It might put my .22 to shame.

  10. Has anyone read the Charles Hayden series by S Thomas Russell. I highly recommend them. 4 novels so far.

Has anyone read the last Lewrie novel. I really liked that one too. Love the whole series. By Dewie Lambdin.

Has anyone read Captain in Callico by George McDonald Fraser, might be a Scott. Let me know if its worth a buy if ye have.

On a side note, I watch Black Sails on STARZ. The actress who plays Anne Bonny is gorgeous and her character is a total badass. Just sayin.

  11. Pirates! yes definitely. Still play it from time to time. Silly fun with Sails.

Sea Dogs. Fun fights, cool ships. Its old and doesn't work very good on WIN 10. I really miss playing it.

POTBS was good until it got all fraked up. Kind of turned me off of MMO's too. Rarely had a fair PvP fight. Magic spells are stooped. The Conquest mechanics were really great though. Forums were fun. Lot of the players were fun. Bacon was fun. (old forum readers may remember)

AC IV and AC Rouge. Lots of fun but the Jackdaw Brig was yer only ship. Wanted to sail some of the many ships(Frigates) I capped. Boarding in that game is the best that's ever been. Brig was like a PT boat so there was NO skill involved in a ship fight. BONUS: being an assassin is wayyyyyyyyyyy fun.

I have Risin but can't really comment on it because all I play anymore is Naval Action.

Played a bunch of others but those are the most memorable.

This (NA) one is my favorite. Even in it's present state, I love it. Really want to play/sail for a long time.
