  1. I've found a good source in 'Gettysburg- the story of the battle with maps' by Stackpole Books. It provides a concise explanation in the text that accompanies 70 full page full colour maps with crisp clear graphics. Each map covers the entire battlefield and outlines troop dispositions 'hour by hour' over the 3 days. Link to Amazon UK:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gettysburg-Battle-Editors-Stackpole-Books-ebook/dp/B00EJTIIP2/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411332381&sr=1-2&keywords=gettysburg+the+story+of+the+battle
  2. A good book you might find useful is available on Amazon. "Gettysburg The story of the battle with maps" by Stackpole Books. The link to the UK Amazon site is:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gettysburg-Battle-Editors-Stackpole-Books-ebook/dp/B00EJTIIP2/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411332381&sr=1-2&keywords=gettysburg+the+story+of+the+battle It has 70 full page colour maps, each covering the entire battlefield, with uncluttered crisp clear graphics that clearly outline each stage of the battle, almost hour by hour over the three days. In my opinion it is one of the best books available!
  3. I've read in a number of sources and viewed documentaries on WW1 & WW2 where it is stated that it was not uncommon for infantry to go into battle and simply get 'lost' in the crowd and fog of war, never firing their weapon in whether through fright/paralysis trauma who knows? Superiors would often check rifles afterwards. Expect the experience of ACW combatants would be similar. It's all very well playing armchair General but to experience the real horrors of war upfront & personal- an overwhelming assault on all of your senses- seeing comrades disintegrate or being disembowelled before your eyes must really f you up
  4. UGG has ignited a fascination for all things Civil War and details about Gettysburg in particular. I discovered a great book on Amazon- 'GETTYSBURG The story of the battle: with maps' by Stackpole Books. Link:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gettysburg-Editors-Stackpole-Books/dp/0811712184/ref=sr_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1411065661&sr=1-9&keywords=gettysburg This is a fantastic reference if you want to accurately deploy your troops as Meade and Lee did in 1863. The maps are impressive- clear crisp graphics with each uncluttered map showing the whole battlefield, making it easy to understand the context of each movement, attack and counterattack over the three days. There are approximately 70 full colour full page maps covering the battle on an hour by hour basis with a page of accompanying straight forward text to support each map. I strongly recommend it!
  5. Some great suggestions in this thread. I love the game! Do we really need a mimi map if we seek an authentic mid 19th century experience? The confusing fog of war, never fully knowing what is taking place is surely a more accurate representation. The additional music would be great- particularly when reinforcements arrive onto the battlefield. Having troops dig in and build breastworks would also add to the accuracy. I would love if the developers used their expertise to produce a similar game based on the World War 1 Battle of the Somme (also fought on 1st July), it would be perfect to adapt!
  6. I'm of the opinion that the basic information about imminent arrival of reinforcements and no further news regarding their progress is much more representative of the scenario faced by commanders in the mid 19th century. Communication was non existent in most cases and basic at best, confusing and often conflicting. Sheer luck played a major role in avoiding defeat or achieving victory. There is no need for further mini-maps - it spoils the basic premise of the game- if you go down that route you might as well throw in a few helicopters drones tanks and machine guns!
  7. Hi new to the game and the forum so on a steep learning curve! New to gaming so kinda overwhelmed at the serious/intensity of some posts! Fascinated by the game and keen to get to grips- any really detailed instructions for game play etc? I'm kinda still in the dark feeling my way! Playing on macbook 15 inch late 2008 running mavericks- game was fine first few times but seems to freeze- everything disappears apart from the map which remains frozen- have to go through a reboot. Any thoughts as to solution? Thanks
