  1. http://www.shpountz.com/gb/navigation.php?procedure=11& This site has a lot of good information and helpful pictures
  2. This is how a schooner should run: Ineffective? Would be nice to see implemented ingame. *Jib sail would be trimmed like that of aft rig
  3. I want my captain to be a yelling s.o.b chewing out his crew with witty yet mildly insulting remarks with a lot of curse words... like a real captain would xD
  4. Very good read. Makes a good argument too. As the author says though they didnt have sights till later, the barrel shape made it harder to aim for the gunner, i reckon like a howitzer would be, sounds to have a similiar trajectory also. Employed orrectly the carronade could be quite deadly. Lack of training would make any weapon ineffective, but one that is easier to load and aim... i would prefer personally. They each have their place, but a skipper with long guns can engage one with carronades more effectively at a longer range no? Accuracy would be determined by the crew and how well they can aim a carronade, harder to aim could be the reason for its bad reputation, but that would be somewhat deserved as a design flaw.
  5. I feel the best thing to do, for the sake of ingame balance would be for gunnery and seamanship to be for the most part equal starting off- something to be earned through the course of gameplay, and maybe different nations get their own perks. That is a subject altogether different though. Afterall- a greenhorn is still a greenhorn regardless of nationality. Im czech and yet ive never once been seasick in my career yet ive seen plenty of seasoned portuguese, french and irish fisherman with their head overboard xD
  6. If im not mistaken, long guns out range carronades. It seems the british and french particularly the british almost exclusively used carronades. The americans preferred the long guns for their accuracy and range. Maybe some spanish ships would do well against the constitution? I love american ships, however i would agree how lame it would be if everyone were sailing the Constitution
  7. Good post^ I think its worth a mention- the wood, the Constitution and a numbr of american ships were made of Live Oak making them extremely strong ships. Afterall thats why shes called 'ironsides'
  8. THE SOUTH CAROLINA!!! MUST be in the game!!! Also known as "l'Indien" and was the model for the Constitution Greetings from Charleston, SC xD
  9. Ahhh okay. That makes, the numbers represent actual weight to buoyancy ratio? So is it possible to order your men to deep six as much as they can in order to lighten the ship?
  10. Hit points for the 4 sides makes sense but the overall health bar on top doesnt, it seems redundant- is there a reason for it? The video was to illustrate that rigging and the bowsprits werent 'solid'. And they didnt catch the other masts and rigging of the other ship, are you saying this has been fixed? If not then that maybe a reason for health bars as i mention: a lack of proper damagemodels
  11. Hmm... that actually sounds prettpy neat. I gueas id have to play to see how it works. It works well?
  12. Personally i think the hitpoint concept is stupid. Its outdated and obsolete and doesnt require a proper damage models system. Look at the games coming out now like War Thunder, absolutely no hitpoint system whatsoever and its freakin awesome. You ram, you die too. (Yes planes are not ships but both require wind) and hitpoints are becoming a thing of the past. Ships dont need em either.
  13. So maybe not 'call' them, but in such conditions of tacking or jibing maneuvering etc, the free hands who arent loading possibly automatically help with sails. I havent played the game because im not a tester so i dont know exactly, there are "sailing" and "gunnery" commands correct? But in a battle with say a cutter vs a sloop the cutter would want to use its sailing abilities to maneuver and youd constantly be switching between the commands. Now is there a penalty to gun reloading to constantly be switching from "sailing" to "gunnery"? You understand my concern? Its along the same lines as guns on one side not doing anything. Also, only so many men can load one cannon at a time. From my sailing exoeriences on working ships, you are constantly on the move doing something and helping your comrades. Obviously a cannon crew on the lower decks arent going to run up to trim sone sails but the deck gunners would constantly be on the move
  14. From what ive seen so far there needs to be a focus on actually making rigging and masts 'solid'. If two ships collide, masts and rigging should get caught against eachother and snap or have some effect at all. So before talking about smash smash get these roblems solved otherwise smash smash wont be possible. Also ramming or colliding ought to damage both ships and possible entangle them. Get the physics of ship rigging and masts actually modelled in as a part of the ship- not just aesthetics and the colliding or ramming will be freakin badass
  15. How does actual sailing work when you are constantly going from sailing commands to gunnery commands while in battle? For example if your crew on port just fired and you give a command to bring her up to close haul to gain distance and better firing position will the crew manning the guns that just fired be reloading while the starboard gunners man the sails?
  16. They started making them in the 1780's i believe and quickly became popular, though not so much in America. The Expirement encountered a french ship named la Diane- three masted 16 guns and a crew of 60. I will continue my research. Where should i post/send any pictures and ship plans and information i find?
  17. when will the game be open for Alpha or Beta? how does one become a tester?

  18. Will there be 3 masted schooners?
