  1. I believe we should be able to see ports from further away, twinkling of lights from afar from Dusk till dawn. (Although in the dead of night I believe few lights would show. Lighthouses, some ports had them. Clicking on a port from afar could show it as a named 'target' just like enemy ships are identified, no need to be at anchor in the harbour before its name is visible above the port. I also don't understand the continueous and constant 'Haze' in the OW, Perhaps a sea mist at dawn or an occasionally sea fog but permanently hazy ? Its the Caribbean, I would love balmy sunny days, the horizon revealed to the curvature of the earth.
  2. Well guys, I'm sure the devs will come up with something, But suggestions on the theme/OP would be great. Honour could perhaps be something that runs alongside level advancement with its own influence on the game rather than influence levelling. But atm we are at least looking for a solution to the devs current system. Short & long term. Feel free to suggest variants or completely different solutions. Lets just give the Devs food for thought.
  3. A trader can trade at Midshipman level, if you want to be a trader you don't need to sink any ships at all. An Honour system would be aimed at players wanting to progress through the Naval Ranks.
  4. Hardly a fair fight ? A Frigate should not be challenged by 3 brigs so therefore it shouldn't be classed as an equal/honourable opposition.
  5. I like the introduction of the 'Honour Kill' system, but like many I think the release version should be modified somewhat. What is an Honourable kill.= Destroying or otherwise doing the most 'damage' to a ship of equal or greater strength. Suggestion. Long Term. The ship you are sailing should be of a suitable Rate to your RANK. The targeted ship should be of an equal or higher rating than the SHIP you are sailing. In order for suitable ships to be available for this task, I believe at least 1 basic recipe ship should be available for each Rate. Players should have the option of using this basic recipe ship or a special drop recipe ship if they can build or have one built for them to use. Temporary fix current build. If insufficient rated ships are available in game to test this theory, then there are a few ways this can be rectified. 1) Provide a basic quality redeemable ship at each rank advancement of a suitable type per character. 2) Temporarily move a ship into the basic recipe tree so that it can be built by more crafter's on reaching crafting level 'x'. 3) Allow undermanned ships of a higher rate to be able to accrue honor kills. (eg undermanned 74 instead of Constitution)
  6. I give up. Perhaps English isn't your first language, where the hell in my reply do I confound and sink this whole discussion in a single sentence ? More to the point, if a single sentence is sufficient to scupper your view on your Razee, cough cough I mean Super Frigate, then your argument must be extremely weak for the changes you are requesting...
  7. WELL MR PRATER, as you so kindly highlighted my reply. I suggested you moved en-masse this entire discussion to be part of your poll thread, not start a new one so pull in your horns. New forum users seeing your poll should also be able to easily review this discussion post so why do you resist putting the two together. I am not you nor am I Alex Conner are you then saying only your two voices count ??, I am entitled to add my own opinions and knowledge to any thread on this forum. I will also continue to do so in an unbiased and calm matter no matter the subject matter nor the OP's or OP's supporters rantings against me.. You are also implying that because I have not joined the discussion previously I should butt out of this one ?? Perhaps because I won't agree with you. Well that is exactly why this post is in the discussion area. I did mention that I would with-hold comment until I had looked into the subject rather than making a blanket un-informed post, so I don't even see where your animosity toward my post is coming from.
  8. Most Nations of the Era also used this system or one extremely close. I get a twitch every time I see cutters, labelled 7th rates, or Brigs labelled 6th rates. Rated ships were 6th rates and larger and were 20+ gun Sloops/Corvettes of war/small light frigates. Brigs etc were unrated, but for gaming purposes you could argue extending the rating system to 7 and above could work, but in my honest opinion 6th Rates should be correct to history and game-play allows 7th rates and higher. Perhaps something along these lines. (Note this also roughly matches the rank advancement in steps for like for like ship progression) 1st Rate 2nd Rate 3rd rate 4th Rate 5th Rate 6th Rate <400 tonne un-rated vessel 7th Rate <250 tonne un-rated vessel 8th Rate <150 tonne un-rated vessel 9th Rate Royal Navy rating system in force during the Napoleonic Wars[edit] The chart corrupted in my post so include the link below. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rating_system_of_the_Royal_Navy
  9. If the Constitution needs a visual rework, then lobby for it and request that the current hull be a place-marker, pending dev/designer time being available. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/7507-poll-historical-constitution-or-current-constitution/ no discussion on your poll ? Ask Admins to move this thread under your poll for continued discussion to keep the debate concentrated and available to all. Your poll options imho should be for the historical facts to be investigated further, rather than a blanket statement that presupposes that the current Constitution is grossly inaccurate, perhaps other ships are inaccurate and need their stats tweaked rather than the other way around. I am all for historical accuracy but find that sometimes National Pride can rose tint your perspective, After all didn;t the Victory have 6 decks 1500 men and a titanium hull . I will gladly dust off my library and play devils advocate over the next week and do my best to add to your arguments, but until then will with-hold any specific arguments on either hand.
  10. It is not the sinking of the targets that is the problem, it is the availability if the correct hull to sail that is. The game mechanic as it stands is forcing you to sail in ship 'X' when there really shouldn't be such a specific requirement.
  11. This would be a better system. Kills by Rate rather than a specific ship. Also make a basic version available to craft at 'x' crafting level that could be used for this purpose, rather than relying on RNG special recipes to drop. This would give the shipbuilders a guaranteed recipe to provide ships, and give player choice as to which ship they wish to grind and level with. I feel a little code borrowed from the early arena only testing period may have found its way into the OW phase ? A slight tweak to the above would I find calm everyones grief stricken panic (Lets not forget that those blatantly using the duplicate reinforcement method of spawning in ships will already have an advantage in the number of special recipes available to their Nation/Clan) Leaving others behind the arms race who refused to miss-use the broken game mechanic. Morale high ground maybe, but outclassed both on the battlefield and in ship building.
  12. Is there ever a good time to carry out server maintenance ? Particularly at the weekends I know this is testing and the server can go down at any time, but will the current cycle continue into go live ? Its 9.30 am on a Saturday morning in the UK, 10.30am in most of Europe, players are at home, no work (For the lucky) no school, perhaps their Partners and siblings have left the house to do other activities, I settle with a coffee and server down for maintenance. I realise the server is global but I am absolutely certain that there must be a quieter timezone slot for such maintenance. Grumble over, Turns to World of Warships for an hour
  13. After successfully boarding and completing 1 round of boarding battle (To avoid those half a second boarded/interrupted issues) the boarder should lose 50 prep points. These points considered spent on grappling, tying yards together etc etc. The defender will therefore have a distinct advantage if already prepped for boarding (As it should be). Differences in deck height, crew numbers and fast or slow preparation gain between boarding rounds then comes into play. The cost to re-grapple will therefore take as much time as the attacker needs to regenerate points back up to 50 following a successful disengage.
  14. Im not an 18th century sailor, but when I log into game I am.... Poetic license allows a games designers to make their environment more pleasant to game in, it doesn't have to be so dull. I am not expecting fireworks and orange moons but what I dislike is drab grey hour after hour.
  15. I find the night time sailing very poor visuals when they could easily be far brighter and colourful. I attach real photos taken in the Caribbean. As its a game even further enhancement for poetic license could be permitted. Loving the big moon ! https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=caribbean+moonlight+seascapes&biw=1366&bih=671&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAWoVChMI3fOW1-fOyAIVh1QUCh0L-wmN#imgrc=a6loozkoTwF0IM%3A http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/sea-landscape-at-night-full-moon-royalty-free-image/526267249 https://www.pinterest.com/pin/426997608394555074/ http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/photo/woman-stands-in-the-glow-of-the-moon-on-a-high-res-stock-photography/539657237
  16. The lethality of each ship can vary greatly dependent on Rate, Type, Quality, Number of upgrades, Quality of upgrades and Rank of commander (Crew on board) Observation. A basic fir 74Bellona with 1 common upgrade slot and Flag Captain with 69% crew is NOT the same BR as an Exceptional Live oak 74Bellona with 5 upgrade slots all exceptional and a Commodore with full crew. Will the end game allow for such variations in deciding the BR of each ship or will all ships continue with the set single BR rating.
  17. Having the Colour Blind option in Battle is great and its appreciated that this mode was introduced very quickly after I first raised it on the forums some while ago, the simple colour change was an instant success. Open World and In Port UI is however still troublesome. The issue is Red text I and others who suffer cannot see it without extreme eye strain. This text appears above enemy ports in the high seas, and also in the crafting menus when insufficient parts are available to craft the current highlighted recipe. When Colour Blind mode is selected for your game, could the same colour variation be applied to the Red Text in Battle and change it to black on white background or otherwise highlight with different colurs and or shades. Many thanks in advance PS Edit. Also Red text is used to highlight enemy fleet nationality. personally its unreadable and I just know it isn't my own Nation which is white text
  18. The Devs have had poetic license on the launch dates before, and I do like the idea of modifying 2+ decker ship into Razee's as part of the game, providing double the variety of ships above 5th Rates by a simple mechanic. I am not suggesting that we all buy a Victory and Razee it, but perhaps include ships in the game which had been razee'd later in life, even if this date was after the inclusion date. The reasoning being that the ship already exists, it was just heavily modified during its lifetime. If we include a selection of ships that had both the 2+ decker version and a Razee option in game that would be a clever mechanic, and the design would be already part complete for the razee version. Another well known example HMS Glatton, Include both the East Indiaman Model and then also the Razee'd 56 gun 4th rate. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Glatton_%281795%29
  19. AI fleets should be varied more particularly those including a SOL or multiple SOL. EG Current = 7x 74 Bellona Realistic =4x Bellona. 2x 5th Rate, 2 x 6th Rate. Current = 4x 74 Bellona Realistic = 2x Belona 3x Frigates There seems to be a gap in the regularity of smaller groups of 74's You may see 1 74 occasionally but most fleets are 6 or 7 74's with no other ship type present.
  20. Proposed this myself some while back to switch between broadsides by key stroke. Hopefully will be acted on
  21. We have deck view and 3rd person view from above and behind your ship. Could we change the 3rd person to, or add a masthead position to the default views available when sailing on the OW
  22. My midshipman can click on the smallest tatter of sails on the horizon and identify it as a Trader Lynx sailed by player 'X'. Yet using the same telescope he cannot point it at the huge port on the horizon and identify it as Jeremie, Neutral port on Haiti Coastline............ Fixable ?
  23. Whilst on patrol East of Puerto Rico on behalf of His Majesty's Royal Navy with my fellow captain Llewellyn Jones both in frigates, we sighted a French squadron of three 5th Rates. We engaged the French frigates from windward, after a short period of the engagement a third frigate unknown to us though flying English colours joined the attack. A Frigate and Cerberus were destroyed by myself and Captain Jones whilst the newcomer chased the second Cerberus some miles downwind. Intent on our engagement we gave little thought to the newcomers tactics. After chasing the Cerberus downwind for some twenty minutes the newcomer boarded and captured the Cerberus as a prize. What astonished us next was that both ships raised the Jolly Roger and sailed off over the horizon. Damage to our sails during the engagement prevented us giving chase to this audacious vagabond - Pagan Pete. The inability of our subordinates to both fly and confirm correct recognition signals with the pirate has led to some very severe punishments. My own signal's officer a midshipman of some experience will not be sitting or lying down in comfort for several weeks having been introduced to the gunners daughter !
  24. I think we have 4 issues here. 1) as my OP explains, you can take over another ship and become combat ready immediately 2) A ship with bare masts should roll quite dramatically unless the sea state is dead calm. making gunnery awkward. 3) Damaging the hull no longer causes a one on one opponent serious concern. 4) Almost impossible to damage and KO a mast unless through collision damage. So looking at the current trend, boarding is really the only way to 'work the system' at this time. You will be boarded before you sink the opposition and you will never take enough sails / masts down to prevent it. Without additional help.
