Well, there aint alot online about the Hemmema frigates, i have thought myself of contacting them about Kronan and one of the larger Hemmemas.
But it would be good if you could.
-
I'd love this ship, truly!

HI there !

Hello and welcome!

You better upload those on the internet! We need more Swedish ships on this forum, get going!
-
Nice find there Pontus.

I also think its gonna be hard to find Swedish things before 1697 due to the national archives burning down that year.

Laid down: October 1665 Launched: 31 July 1668 Commissioned: 1672 Fate: Sunk at the Battle of Öland, 1 June 1676Sweden and Germany have very little ships
Jesus, is that ship within the timeline? I would love to see it in-game.

May I admit that the hull lines look rather.. low draft.
This ship looks like it was designed for coastal patrol duties.
Just like the dutch designs: get lighter/less draft and in return youll add a lot of leeway to her.
So she would be a terrible sailor compared to shipbesigns coming from the brits or french, spanish.. youi know what I mean
Still.. She would totally crush any same sized frigate.. thats one impressive armament
Chapman's archipelago frigates provided better protection for their crew than the galleys they replaced, and up to three times the capacity for stores and provisions. They could operate in the narrow, shallow waters around skerries in all weathers and in open water in all but the worst storms. They had a deeper draft than galleys, but considerably shallower draft than traditional sailing warships. The new ship types also increased the archipelago fleet's firepower, provided it with better defensive capabilities, and made possible more efficient fire support in amphibious operations.
Hemmemas served in the Finnish squadrons during the war of 1788–1790. They supported amphibious operations and conducted raids on the Russian archipelago fleet, while at the same time acting as sea-borne flank support for the Swedish army on the Finnish mainland. Hemmemas fought in the first and second Battles of Svensksund. During the first battle in 1789, one hemmema complemented the similar turumas, and in the second battle in July 1790, two hemmemas made up the defensive center and provided a considerable percentage of the firepower.
Like the other specialized archipelago vessels, the hemmema had specific strengths and weaknesses. Although it had superior firepower relative to galleys, its sailing qualities were somewhat mediocre and while highly manoeuvrable under oars, it was still difficult to propel while rowed. A hemmema had the potential to be an effective weapon against galleys, matching their forward firepower and severely outgunning them with its broadside armament. Inside an enemy galley formation, it could wreak considerable havoc, but such a maneuver was never achieved in an actual battle, leaving that tactical role untested.

For a bit of info on who the ship was named after.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birger_Jarl
Birger Jarl (c. 1200 – 21 October 1266), or Birger Magnusson, was a Swedish statesman, Jarl of Sweden and a member of the House of Bjelbo, who played a pivotal role in the consolidation of Sweden. Birger also led the Second Swedish Crusade, which established Swedish rule in Finland.

It aint a very clear picture, i belive it to be Oden from what i have made out.
How the back ornaments look (Not sure from what ship).
Rigging plan
Atleast you can see somewhat how the back form is on this picture.

I have also managed to find some slight drawings of the Hemmema (Showing side, from above and how the back looks).
I will post them when i get home from work.

I would much rather have a Hemmema.

(Its pretty much Turumas bigger brother)

lol! nice.....wait do i know you eyeless????
World of Warships forums.

Afraid not.
It was pretty epic, though was really suprised 52 people manning a total of 104 guns! That is 2 guns per crewman!
-
So i was in my privateer and guess what? I managed to capture a Victory from someone that failed at a boaring.
So my 52 men crewed the entire Victory and gave me 10k damage that match!
So in love with it.

Why not a swedish ship from the master himself im thinking either 1 of his frigates or 1 of the Wasa class 60 gun Ship of the line.
She was the Prototype Ship class of 10 ships orderd she won over Gilbert Sheldons ship the 68 gun Drottning (Queen) Sofia Magdalena
She was launched in 1778 And was designed by the well known Fredrik Henrik af Chapman.
Swedens navy was made to very often work together with its army as such it was important for ships to be able to support in landings and costal operations.
As such Af Chapman had the idea for a ship that could both stand in the line of battle with the same firepower of a larger ship but with the ability of a smaller ship of going in shallow waters.
She was a 2 decker with 60 guns but to give her the broadsides of the normal 74s those 60 guns where 36 and 24 pound guns giving her a fiesty broadside.
She was also a very stiff sailor and with full sail she would list no more then 10 Degrees at 12-14 knot winds.
Her lower cannon deck was also highley placed giving her a big edge in rough seas.
She was sold in 1803 to the Swedish east india company that used her in 1 trip to kanton.
After that trip she was bought back in 1808 and rebuilt to a 50 gun ship and served in that fashion to 1827 when she was broken up.
The only real criticism of her by the navy was that her upper gundeck was deemed to have to thin timbers and would not offer enough protection for the hours of punishment a line battle might result in.
As a result of that the following 10 ships where built slightly bigger and stronger protection for the upper gun deck aswell as the increase to 62-64 guns instead of the 60 of Wasa.
The 10 ships following her while where all similar but not exact copies.
And had between 60-64 guns.
And where the Following
1.HMS Kronprins Gustaf Adolf (1782)
2.HMS Fäderneslandet (1783)
3.HMS Ömheten (1783)
4.HMS Rättvisan (1783)
5.HMS Dygden (1784)
6.HMS Äran (1784)
7.HMS Försiktigheten (1784)
8.HMS Dristigheten (1785)
9.HMS Manligheten (1785)
10.HMS Tapperheten (1785)
1 of her sisters Hms Dristigheten
was 1 of swedens most prestigious ships she was launched 85 and served in a number of large battels including
Battle of Öland 1789
Battle of Reval 1790
and especially at Battle of Viborg Bay (1790)
and in every battle she saw she was always the first ship in the line and she always did well.
In 1806 she was largley overhauld and made into a 74 gun ship and served in the 1808-1809 finnish war against russia in that form.
She served as a ship of the line untill 1856 when she was made a hospital ship.
And in 87 she was finaly written off and used in tests with underwater mines.
At that point her hull was 90 years old making her the last of her sister ships.
(one of her sister ships HMS Kronprins Gustaf Adolf)
the Gustav Adolf was launched 1982 with 62 guns and was the first ship of the Class after the Wasa Prototype Ship.
She was armed with
26 x 36 pounders
28 x 24 pounders
6 x 6 pounders.
She was lost 1788 from grounding outside Helsingfors (Helsinki)
Either of the ships in her class would make for great 2 decker line ships and would be both versitile and powerfull.
And as always sorry for bad english.
Matte, you know that is exactly my ideal ship to use in Naval action, a perfect blend of Speed and firepower.

How about making a Scandinavian guild? I doubt a a single Danish, Norwegian and Swedish guild could match the US, UK, Spanish, French, Dutch etc. for man-and firepower. But together, the people who wants to play those nations (or Dano-Norwegian and Swedish as might be the case) might form a more powerful and influential group. I'd be up for that.
I'd sure be up for it!

So will there be any gun sloops and/or gun yawls in the game in the future?
It would surely be the best ship that everyone would want to use for sure.
Its different kinds of gunboats designed by Fredrik Henrik af Chapman for the Swedish navy.
Two variants were the most common, a larger 20 m (66 ft) "gun sloop" (from the Swedish kanonslup) with two 24-pounders, one in the stern and one in the bow, and a smaller 15 m (49 ft) "gun yawl" (kanonjolle) with a single 24-pounder.
A picture of a gun yawl model.

The best i could find after a quick search was 1600-1830 hard limit though 1690-1790 preferred.
Which means Kronan is just barely outside the preferred.
