  1. Have you checked the % modifiers from your Fuel, boilers and engine type? Those get apllied to the + smoke interference from funnels but not the - from towers. Depending on your settings, you could be getting up to a +205% modifier to your funnels smoke interference, meaning youre 15 interference funnel is actually producing over 45 interference.
  2. I'd love to see an "Advanced mode" for Custom Battles which allows you to specifically select arbitrary techs (per side) rather than just selecting a year. It would allow for a far greater range of possibilities in both historical and ahistorical scenarios, such as: Better representation of Refits outside of the Campaign. e.g. 1930's refit of a WW1 Era Dreadnought with older engines, armour and primary armament, but modernized towers, fire control and secondaries. What if [Insert Technology Here] had developed much faster/slower than in OTL? Pre-Dreds with Radar FC and/or 18-inch guns, 1940's Torpedos in 1900, strongly lopsided naval gun development (Mk V 2-inch but only Mk I 12-Inch guns), etc. Greater ability to simulate Historical ship classes. For example the various 15-inch armed Battleships commissioned early in WW1 (currently the 15-inch guns don't become available ingame until the very End of the War and even then are straight up worse than the 12-inch guns they are supposed to replace). As for implementation, i could see something along the lines of being shown the research screen from the campaign (with all techs revealed) and the being able to select and deselect any of the techs presented, in the drop down menus of the individual categories.
  3. Yes, but we currently don't have specific stat profiles for Weapons from different nations. If you average out across all nations I think 12" guns are probably the ones, that are the most consistently good. In fact, it is arguably Britains relative lack of success in further developing the 12" gun (Resulting in the rather poor BL 12 Mark XI and XII), compared to other nations, that ultimately led them to developing the BL 15 Mk. 1 It does Bring up an Interesting point, that the current research system, both in custom Battles and in Campaign, doesn't really allow you to prioritize specific calibers for development, or implement any sort of variability in the quality of any specific gun design.
  4. To be fair 12" Guns are only more accurate at close ranges (within ~15000m) once you get beyond that, most of the Larger caliber guns will begin to outperform the 12" guns. It's just that in 99% of situations accuracy at that range is so low, that it's barely worth opening fire. I would agree with @AurumCorvus, that the 12" guns accuracy also comes from the fact, that they are a very matured design, being used right through from the pre-dread Era all the way to the end of the game and beyond, seeing constant improvement in that timeframe.
  5. To reiterate what i outlined in this topic Reclassify the Torpedo Boat Destroyer as a Destroyer. Optional: Reclassify the Large Torpedo Boats as Torpedo Boats as per their doctrinal use. Increase maximum Torpedo Boat tonnage from techs from 600t. (Ideally to the maximum displacement of the largest torpedo boat) Add more late Torpedo Boats, such as the German Type 23 through Type 39, (possibly as small destroyers) as these cannot be recreated with current Hulls. (Minimum Tonnage of period appropriate DD's is too large)
  6. Yeah, I was aware of the German Large Torpedo Boats (Großen Torpedoboote) but i wasn't sure if the ingame Large TB's were specifically referencing these. I'd still argue, that these Boats should be classed as Torpedoboats rather than destroyers, due to their different doctrinal use. As you've already stated, they were a reaction to British and French Torpedoboat Destroyers, however the Large Torpedo Boats were designed be used almost identically to previous torpedo boats, with their larger size intended to allow them to undertake offensive operations in spite of TBD presence, thus the focus on more Torpedo Tubes and weaker gun armament. Ultimately i think the cutoff between what is a TB and what is a DD is somewhat fuzzy and imo you can make arguments for any constellation of classifications except the one currently ingame. (if the Large TB's are DD's then so is the TBD and if the TBD is a TB the so are the Large TB's)
  7. I considered mentioning Torpedo Gunboats, but i thought it would be best to limit the posts scope to some easy fixes, which wouldn't require too much effort on the part of the devs. With the exception of new mid- to late-game Torpedo Boat Hulls, (Which for now could probably just be added as scaled down destroyer Hulls) these changes should be little more than some Name and/or Class Changes and adding some extra effects to some techs. Although Torpedo gunboats could probably also be relatively easily represented as very scaled down light cruiser Hulls I feel like their relative lack of success and relegation to the first few years of the campaign makes them slightly less of a priority.
  8. It's been bothering me, that the Torpedo Boat Destroyer is still classified as a TB ingame but the "Large Torpedo Boat" variations are classed as DD's. Unless i'm missing something, it would seem more intuitive to swap these Hulls around as TBD's are typically conisidered some of the first destroyers. The easiest way to do this would probably be to just swap around the names. On a related note, is there any particular reason for the hard 600t tonnage and 1908 year cutoff for TB's? The tonnage limit essentially renders 199t of the Torpedo Boat Destroyers 600 to 800 tonne displacement range inacessible. It seems to me like it wouldn't be too difficult to make some of the techs, which increase DD displacement, also further increase TB displacement. As for the Year cutoff, again unless im misunderstanding something, im fairly sure many nations continued to make torpedo boats right through world war I and into world war II, although by that time they were beginning to rival some older DD's in displacement. Why not give nations, that kept the Torpedo boat Classification, some TB Hulls that allow the recreation of some of the later classes of Ships that are too small to easily be made with existing DD Hulls?
  9. As the Title says. After playing the 1890 Campaign and winning enough combat encounters, Britain sued for peace, which i accepted. After taking a couple of ships in the peace deal the game ended and declared a minor German victory (Reason: "Low Victory Points"). I was looking foward to starting the next campaign in a later starting year. However when i started a new Campaign from the main menu, the year was still locked to the default 1890.
  10. Probably the Heavy cruiser V as it allows for double superfiring 9 inch guns as early as 1909.
  11. It should already be implemented, as stated by the Devs in this post on the Ship Designer Feedback Thread.
  12. I've heard several times while browsing the Forum, that ships with different types of primary battery receive penalties (simulating difficulty of differentiating shell splashes of guns). However nowhere have I seen the exact way this works described in detail. So, I was wondering if anyone has done any testing on this or whether the devs have explained it anywhere in the past, since there are several cases where it is unclear if and to what extent the malus applies or not: Does the system simply apply a penalty if multiple different guns from the primary section are placed on the same ship, and does it become worse with every extra turret of different size mounted, or does the System only take into account guns of similar sizes being on the same ship? (e.g. a ship with both 11- and 12-inch guns would receive a large penalty whereas a ship with 16- and 10-inch guns would receive a more minor penalty) Related to the above, are secondary batteries included in the equation in any way? For instance, would it be detrimental to have a ship with a 9-inch primary and an 8-inch secondary battery and can different secondary batteries interfere with each other if too similar in size? Is the penalty applied for guns of the same calibre but in different mounts? For example, would a ship with both double and triple barrel turrets of the same diameter still be disadvantaged and are centre and side turrets of the same type treated as mixed batteries? Thanks in advance for any answers provided.
  13. I have also had problems on this Mission, it seems to be heavily luck dependant. I built a BB with the maximum allowed speed (33 kn) and was still only able to get just into range of the faster enemy BB with rougly 10 mins left on the mission timer. It turns out the BB I was chasing had a top speed of 29 kn and it was therefore almost impossible to complete the mission without building a BC and whacking up the Speed to ridicolous levels (the fastest DD i got at 34 kn never got into Range of the last BB).
