  1. At the end of each battle you will be awarded Reputation Points, Career Points, Gold, & possibly a medal. See picture above. It is recommended that you start from the right and move to the left as you spend these resources. You will then be given the opportunity to spend each of these resources to increase the strength and size of your forces. It is recommended that you begin with the applying your Career Points since this may have an impact on the use of the rest of your resources. For more information on Career Points see the thread on this topic. Gold and Reputation points can be spent on new technology. You will have a choice of a Maximum of 3 technologies to invest in. Currently these appear in random. There are 54 different technologies. Since the game is still in development. These are likely to change. These technologies include different weapons and features for your ships as well as improvements for your Troops. If you captured a ship during the previous battle it will be listed in your list of ships as a trophy. You have the option to sell this ship to the Admiralty for Reputation points or if you have enough points already, you can purchase the ship for your own use. If you choose to purchase a ship you will need to do the following steps: 1. You will have to purchase cannons for the ship using some of your gold. Depending on the size of the ship there maybe more than 1 gun deck and the game will show you the number and size of guns allowed on each deck. This is where technology comes into play. For example, you may have invested in Carronades. If so this is where you will be given the chance to equip your ship with them. 2. You will need to select upgrades for your ship. Here again your technology will have a significant impact. You will have the opportunity to improve the armor or sails or rudder etc. Depending on the size of the ship there maybe more than 1 improvement that can be assigned. Each of them will cost you gold so choose carefully. 3. You will need to assign a captain & officers. There are a lot of changes occurring in this area so I will not go into much detail here. I suggest that we will have a sperate thread on officers as soon as this is more stabilized. 3. You will need to assign a crew. The crew will need Muskets. You will have a chance to select these from both your armory and the store. If you have sufficient weapons in your armory there will be no cost. Again the weapons you choose will be influenced by the Technology you have invested in. Your ship will have a max weight and you cannot overload the ship. So the combination of the cannons, upgrades, & number of crew will have an impact on the total weight. Since boarding an enemy ship is important in this game. Maxing your crew is important. In the picture below you will note the officers to the left. The top officer is the ship captain. You will also note the crew weapons. You can click here to change weapons. Note: If you have removed crew from one of your ships they will show up as reserves. When you assign crew to a vessel make sure to click on the reserve button in the crew selection. If you do this your reserves will be assigned automatically and cost you nothing. In the picture you will also note the reserve button. If the ship you are equipping is a troopship. In addition to the above you will be given the option to build groups of troops and assign them to the ship. The same rules mentioned above will apply. Some of the larger Troopships will be able to carry cannons. So you must take this into account when you decide how many troops you want to carry.
  2. Several of us are working on Wiki type info for Age of Sails. In this thread I will talk about the Campaigns. I will keep to general structure as the game is still in development and some of the details are likely to change. Currently there are 2 Campaigns - each roughly follows the life of a Hero from that country. The first Campaign is the British Campaign and focuses on the life of Horatio Nelson. The Campaign begins with a story line from his childhood. As the story progresses you are asked several questions. Each of these questions will have an impact on your play style. We will go into detail on this in a different thread. 2 of these questions will determine if you play Naval battles Easy, Medium, or Hard difficulty. The second question with do the same for land battles. The second Campaign is the American Campaign and it roughly follows the life of John Paul Jones. it also has several questions which will have an impact on your play style and set the difficulty level of your game. All of the Campaigns are organized into Chapters. Each Campaign with consist of 5 chapters. We currently have access to the first 3 chapters of each campaign. The chapters are as follows: Chapter 1 is the Introduction battle. This is always a naval battle. At the end of this battle you will see a screen that tells you the resources at your disposal as you begin Chapter 2. Chapters 2 thru 4 will consist of 4 phases each. Each Phase will consist of 1 Naval battle, 1 Land or Amphibious battle and 1 or more POI battles. At the beginning of each Battle you will have an opportunity to assign Career Points for your Hero, purchase technology upgrades, & make change to your ships and troops. A Point of Interest (POI) battle is marked on the map with a "?". Any ships assigned to this battle will not be returned until the end of the phase. It is a good idea to not assign any ships to a POI battle until the last battle of the Phase. During the last phase of each chapter there will be a final Battle. Which is marked with a special symbol. In the British Campaign there is also an "Easter Egg" battle added in. You will only get to play this battle if you were successful at capturing the 4th rate Ardent during the Fireworks battle. The current plan is to release to Steam as soon as the first 3 chapters of both campaigns are stable. I cannot talk about the 4th or 5th chapter since they have not been released yet. I can say that the British campaign is intended to go up to and include the American War of 1812. There has also been mention of additional chapters that may give you the chance to play a battle from history, such as Trafalgar. There have also been requests for additional Campaigns. This is likely to be in a future DLC.
  3. It depends on the Battle. she may be too large. I have used her in the Objects battle in chapter 3.
  4. By the end of the 3rd Chapter I had the 3rd Rate Bellona & 3 3rd Rate Ardents
  5. Ok I used F11 during my playing of Active Captain. but I don't see it here. Just a recap. I won the battle but the Statistics screen was blank for all tabs except the first one which had 9999 for each value. How do I get a screen capture?
  6. thanks. I will remember for the future.
  7. Sorry No I did not. So I assume I should hit F11 while in the game if I have an issue.
  8. I was playing the Smuggler battle and I had 2 issues - first I had a group of Marines run back to the boats that they landed in and I could not get them to return. second I sent 160 Marines to the primary base which was defended by 32 Spanish Marines. My troops were arranged in the trees and the Spanish troops were in the open. yet my troops broke and ran. This does not seem likely considering the numbers. This happened several times before I was able to take possession of the supplies and go to the embarkation point.
  9. Is there a plan to add fore & aft rigged vessels, such as the Baltimore Clipper. This would add a very interesting area to the game. Since the clipper can point higher than a frigate. you could have a battle where an American clipper take on a British convoy.
  10. Ok, I am very new to Ultimate Admiral games. I just installed Age of sail yesterday. I find it to be a very exciting game. Just what I was looking for. So here is my feedback on Game play - I would guess that there are many players not familiar with Sailing a square rigged warship. I suggest that the tutorial needs a section just for maneuvering. Such as you cannot tack across the wind and you cannot sail into the wind. It doesn't yet appear that your speed is affected by your point of sail. Also do you plan to have wind direction and speed change during a battle. currently I find the UI troublesome. I cannot use just the mouse to change my point of view with relation to my ships. in land battles how do I get my troops to take advantage of a fence line? I.e. I would like a tutorial that just dealt with movement of units. Is there a plan to enable tool tips? such as hover over something and a popup tells you what it is? I am still struggling with boarding an enemy ship in the navel battles. I also like the fact that if you sink someone's ship the crew will try to take one of yours.
  11. I paid for the Commodore Edition today. I don't see a link to install the prerelease. I used Paypal.
