  1. Torpedo bilges along waterline, extensive bulkheads, watertight integrity, and warhead size are the variables. The warhead size and detonator type of the WW2 German/American/Japanese torpedoes determine the hole. Contact holes were usually smaller and less effective against major warship with torpedo bilges filled with fuel or ballast water than influence exploders setting off warhead maybe 1 or 2 meters under keel. The hull could still be intact but leaking with a hit along torpedo bilges. 11 American Mark 13 torpedo's hit the IJN Yamato, poor training and poorly managed damage control preventive counters such as counter flooding using extensive bulkheads from righting the ship. Older service, more experienced crew and training, Yamato could of probably taken more. Read somewhere later American South Dakota's and Iowa's were designed to take 15 or more hits....never 'tested' so we will never know. The few hits doing what they did at Pearl was considered self inflicted as the ships were not at wartime watertight condition. Open hatches, etc, peace time mode. Oh and on the unarmored merchants you need to switch to HE manually to finish them off, AP just punches two holes...one in, one out, little collateral damage.
  2. She is going into a dry berth, where she is no longer in water, but a concrete filled berth, no longer 'floating'. Waiting on funds.
  3. For those who have never seen the inside of a 1916 era Battleship, USS Texas, go visit her (Houston,TX) or You-Tube the tour. Interesting to see the cutting edge tech of that era, then the tech of the 1942 era USS Alabama (Mobile, Alabama). Understanding the era's and getting up close and personal with these ships will get you thinking. The USS Olympia a pre dreadnaught is also an interesting visit if in the Phildelphia area. The IJN Mikasa (Yokohama, Japan) is another pre Dreadnaught example. Modeling the Battleships is also a way to get you thinking as well. Imagine being on the HMS Hood, hatches dogged down, (cant be exposed on deck when big guns fire, concussion will kill you or throw you overboard) she takes that hit, she is blown in half, the bow half stands on end and take you down in three minutes. 1415 crew, 3 survivors. Or in the USS Arizona, bomb sets off magazine, you are in the armored tube somewhere, and then compressed like in a piston as the blast pulverizes you and your shipmates. The subject of naval warfare from ironclad to battleship is interesting, and this game is a good look into that era.
  4. Until the advent of radar battlefleets used 'spotter planes' to see over the horizon and correct the fall of shells. Shells were actually color coded to differentiate. designs 1921 plus should have spotter planes for that purpose as the larger guns shot further than the visable horizon. No attack planes dive bombers, torpedo/horizontal bombers, just spotters. Small biplane with radio, catapult and hanger space, another ship design think problem.
  5. The torpedo exploders have a lot to do with damage incurred. Influence exploders are designed to run under the hull not actually hit and the magnetic influence of the ship tripped the exploder, which creates more damage than contact exploders actually striking the ship. Exploding a meter or two below the hull, not actually touching the hull creates far more damage. The explosive force as well as the shock of the water pounding the hull can break the ships back (keel) or make huge holes. The Royal Oak damage looks like a influence exploder and not an actual hit as the hull was forced in over a large area. The Japanese torpedoes at Pearl were reported to be contact exploders so the 'holes' were not that large as you can see in the later dry dock pictures.
  6. OK how do we fix this....just got the validation mess fixed....still no download launcher email
  7. Same. Never got download launcher e-mail.
