Excellent.   Create a mechanic for Nation X to retake Syria, just like exists in the real world.  Why our wargame should be any different, indeed.

IF there is a way for a nation to oust a 'friendly' rogue clan from a port, even if it's difficult or expensive...  that's fine, and actually solves some other problems - i.e. what to do when a clan goes dormant or changes nations but refuses to drop their ports.  With the old capital-based front line mechanic it was at least POSSIBLE to use your own alt clan or invite a friendly nation to take a couple of ports to get hostility on something deep in your territory.  Now you'd have to hand over practically every port between the nearest freeport and the problem port.  Fix this so there's a way that friendly clans can incite revolt in a port somehow and get another stab at running hostilities.

Otherwise...  in a few months...  all of the 55 point ports on the map will be dead because alt clans will have hijacked them and rendered them unusable and there will be no way to recover any of them.

A better solution would be to make the shipyard, not the port the pointcarrier, which would increase diversity, competition and make for a better balance overall.

And we'd be solving a lot of other problems in regards to alt clans as well.

Perhaps then it is time for @admin to extend the amount of time until the port can regain hostility to a week? That'll give people a chance to organise an attack on the ports that are lost.

It won't help. The strong are stronger because of better equipment and larger numbers. The current system of port bonus' and strategic mods (with no other way to get strategic ressources than through alts/nation swapping) just ensures that the strong will stay strong and the rest. Well - when's the last time we saw a PB between two evenly matched nations?

Sweden is cherry-bashing on GB. Russia is borsjt-smashing the dutch. No low-pop nations do RvR anymore and can any1 really blame them? Prussia is the exception, but they basically got 1 organized clan and more importantly they have access to two 55p ports.

You won't see a different result by giving more time to plan - numbers on the stronger side will still be larger.

EDIT: My point eluded my typing...

We are considering adding another investment card allowing clans to add points themselves. But of course this could create more imbalance than advantages.. but it seems a very good feature on paper.
Which nation lars plays these days? Is the proposal for clan to control the points comes from weak or strong nation?

It would be easier to see what nation Lars Kjaer plays if he could actually write in the forums. Lars has never played a strong nation tho, nor a strong clan. Someone has to be the underdog - the wins are grander, the losses more natural.

This feature will always be hated by strong nations. This was exactly the point of adding it. To provide balance and natural strong opponent.
It also provides content for (even if they do not participate in it directly). Losing Nassau to NPC IS CONTENT to all weaker or downtrodden players in all other nations.

This feature is also easily avoided by doing multiple things alts already do

    • Joining weaker nation (immune to NPC attacks on War server)
    • Having a reserve lvl 4 investment port in a weak nation.
    • Having ships built for this event (shallow ports of course require slightly different tactics

I think this would be easier if the clans, not the server, decided which ports were 55p ports, in short made it dependent on investments.

I'd still argue for the bonus' to be tied to the shipyard/crafter to allow greater diversity of ships/crafters as well as something to grind for when you're the richest man on the server(s).

  5. Let's be honest. NPC PBs is a means to drive up player numbers since it forces clans to be online whenever a raid occurs. It's a feature. It doesn't have to be a good feature.

As to the use of an alt clan, I couldn't imagine anyone being rude enough to do that!!

    ________________________________________________________________________________

Remove PBs and let the individual crafter grind his shipyard, let the portinvestments be about ressources and let everyone harvest at all national ports. Ownership would then be about taxes - and farms should provide tax as well.

Remove the NPC PBs from the war-server, we do PvP not PvE.

we more and more believe that these days. RvR price of loss is too high compared to just pvp. And people just hate losing stuff.

tbh I believe it's more the risk of losing crafting ports that prevents ppl from doing RvR. RvR is great when you're winning and taking stuff from other people, it's crap when you're losing access to you shipyard facilities, port bonus', rare ressources etc.

That and the currently inbuildt uncompetitiveness of some ressources/PBs simply makes some clans/nations unable to compete i RvR and thus unwilling to waste the time/effort in doing it. PvP is simpler, cleaner and much more fun - take a ship, kill or get killed and neither party is really worse for wear after the battle.

So what I'm hearing is that hard-coded, official in-game diplomacy is a solution to the issue of RvR's relative unpopularity. And personally I'd agree, but this raises the question: does @admin plan on (re)implementing such a thing? It's not in the roadmap, at least.

I would rather pour gasoline over my ships than ever help a swede in RvR regardless of what is "hardcoded" into the game.

  9. PL is an impossible nation. What is the problem in an impossible nation being impossible to play?

Russia is viable ingame - why? Playerbase.

Prussia is reasonably viable ingame - why? Playerbase

Poland-Lithuania is not viable ingame - why? Lack of playerbase.

Kill it off and let's end this futile debate, impossible nations was introduced as impossible for a reason. Everyone knows I resented the addition of the cartoon nations but now they are here I can't see why PL or any other impossible nation should get a reservation. It's an impossible nation, play it like it is.

I am surprised that the losses of Dutch ports to the U.S has not been mentioned as they have mentioned the Prussians many times during the latest Gazette release. This is truly biased journalism because he isn't telling the true state of affairs that the dutch are dealing with. They are losing to both the U.S which should be in the news as a nation coming back to being a major player in the world and Prussia which is also staking its claim in the world.

The US can't "come back" as a major player in RvR..
