  1. it made him use 2 or so rig repairs when he shouldn't even have to use them(or otherwise force to stay with this much damage on his sails)
and it might have made him easier to catch if he had no more repairs
so yeah everything on the video is clear and shouldn't even happen

if you shot maybe a few cannonballs which do not do a lot into your teammate just because you had to fire rest of the broadside into the enemy it's fine, but it is clear on the video that he just made a lot of damage on a single target in his own team, and it's clear that he wanted to do this green on green because there weren't even any enemy players close

well im not educated in business, but from what i believe i think its smarter to reinvest it into the game and WHEN they start to profit more then they use they can put that into other projects, but not before its stable.

you need to have an answer prepared just incase someone asks about the money!

    It's an old problem.
The difference in performance between a novice with an Admiralty ship
a veteran with the best wood ship and best upgrades,
    is enormously large.

Far too big to be fair game.

    That's why it's a gank-game  😉

majority of the players are just noobs you can easily sink with a trashy trinco captured from AI
good ships are absolutely unnecassary for sinking them, but it doesn't mean that good ships are not nice to have!

VP is full of players that do not know how to brake using yards, do not know upwind from downwind, at times get confused with left and right, do not follow the order of PB commanders, often refuse to use TS even when in the port battle fleet, are too scared to get stuck in during the battle or just don't speak English. AND that's just the players who are at least willing to show up for RvR. The rest are just useless carebears that do nothing to help but are  the first to complain when they lost their carebear port. El Toco is a great example, while we were struggling to fill the port battle (only four of whom were on TS) outside there were dutch players sitting on the docks in first and second rates wating for AI to come close enough to the square fort for them to tag. We had a fair few half decent captains with potential but they ran off to Sweden because they didn't like being told when they screwed up. Bloody sissies!

lol, I'm glad that I don't even remember having this kind of experience so far
I knew that VP is awful but didn't expect it to be that bad XD

As to the use of an alt clan, I couldn't imagine anyone being rude enough to do that!!

you could really get surprised if someone had an opportunity to do that!

That comment clearly didn't age well.

I was surprised about Saint John, but figured: It's a hard port layout, and swedes are not used to NPC raids. But after Nassau I inquired with Brits and even in Truxillo AI reached almost 800 points. Previously in our NPC raids if it wasn't bugged (Nassau) or we made some mistake, NPCs would not get any points.

Now both the speed and pathfinding of NPC raiders have changed so that they are impossible to catch up to, impossible to intercept, impossible to block, and impossible to push out of their route. In Saint John and Truxillo there were clearly the same issues causing the difficulties as for us in Nassau. And since in Nassau the possible spawns are so far apart it makes it even more impossible than ports where all the NPC spawns are relatively closely grouped.

There's no lack of knowledge on our part. We knew that NPCs get points not just from reaching the circle, but from being in it. We knew that it's not enough to sink the traders (even though it has been officially stated that it is enough), but there was just no way of winning the PB.

There's no point in bothering with the NPC PBs if they're a default loss.

and yet you will buy next DLC regardless!

You  can open 3 slots on a l'ocean in a couple of days.   If someone doesn't have the attention span to run a few missions, I doubt they have the attention span to pay attention during port battles

ah, ok 😀, well, I'm for example and exception to this rule, don't know how common such exceptions are though :D

I'm sorry to the folks who, like you, since I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, really are that good that you don't need to spend a few hours in the boat to master it, but overall it's good for the health of the fleet if we require that people BOTH open slots AND be decent at fighting against other players

this game also had an asset and experience wipe some months ago, and people who played pre-wipe also lost those open perk slots for ships because of this, so some part of them might have spent some time playing pre-wipe too

some people for example are not really into the time consuming/grindy things and just want to play more freely, only doing those grindy things when they are more necessary and avoiding them if they wish to do so

  7. 52 minutes ago, TheDread said:

but my point is good captains open slots on ships they plan to use, too

it doesn't hurt to do that but sometimes it is too boring to spend time sinking AI, and some prefer to just skip that and maybe eventually just open slots on PvP and stay with maybe 2 or 3 instead of all 5 for example (that's how I do it for example and Im ok with that)
and while the perks are always nice to have the change they make do not necessarily have to make someone feel like they are something they must have

    52 minutes ago, TheDread said:

that tells me something about their attitude

well, yes, it tells that they did not open the slots because of something

  8. 22 minutes ago, TDK said:

This is normal. If you disconnect, AI will take control of your ship after a certain time has passed trying to get your ship out of the battle.

it doesn't ensure any safety to the ship, but I can't get back to the battle because of this
and it didn't even load the battle for me when I reconnected, just changed the "entering combat" to "entering open world", even though I reconnected rather quickly

  9. I joined a PB but disconnected for a moment, then I re-launched the game about 5 minutes later and I had the "entering combat" window, but it didn't let me get into the PB, the "entering combat" turned into "entering open world" after a moment, so I just ended up being kicked out of the PB without the ability to get back in

If all the ship holds were to be increased, that still won't make the lgv useful as the Indi will still outclass it.

that's how it's supposed to work

on the other hand it wouldn't hurt to increase the hold of that other ship

but decreasing hold space is a bad idea

  11. On 1/8/2020 at 4:34 AM, TheDread said:

that you should BOTH - open at least 4 slots in the ship AND not be a total idiot before you're allowed into a port battle.  Both requirements, not an either or.  :P

the tendency is sometimes to pick based on the first of those features and then ignore the second
and those upgrades do not even mean a lot, they give a tiny bit of more power, but it can be easily outmached multiple times by behavior in battle, they mean a lot less than you'd think

On 1/8/2020 at 4:34 AM, TheDread said:

but my counter argument is that you're NOT a highly skilled player if you haven't taken the time to open more than 2 slots on a ship you plan to take into port battles

Where is le Redoutable? Where is Le Téméraire ?

Le Redoutable sunk the day after the battle of Trafalgar, having got 300 dead and 222 severely wounded men out of 643 during these battle (80% of the crew).

Le Téméraire was captured by the Royal Navy at the battle of Lagos (1759). It was sold out of the navy 25 years later.

thank you for those details about history of those ships!

I think we should also be able to make reconstructions of those in this naval action game!

they should also add this HMS Temeraire british ship!
