  1. We seem to regularly go through this cycle where there is some attempt to stop the seal clubbing around the capitols. The fact is, seal clubbing is nothing more than a low experience player getting killed by something better (solo hunter or group). It can and does happen everywhere on the map and is simply the nature of the game. We were all baby seals at some point and learned how to avoid it. I have urged that the capitol zone size be increased to 3 times its current size in order to protect new players completely and I'll bet that if this were done, it would make very little difference. New players will not listen to good advice and will inevitably sail into the arms of some hunters. Hunters have a right to hunt on a PVP server and it's not like the noobs have an "L" on their licence plates. It's just not possible to completely protect new players and the simplest solution is to keep them away from the capitols......but that seems to be impossible, doesn't it?
  2. Thanks very much @admin, for the gifts and all your hard work. All the best for the New Year to you and yours!
  3. With the holiday season upon us and the population focused on other things, I'm a yes to stopping PBs. PVP is still in full force, of course.
  4. Merry Christmas to the Naval Action community! (or whichever seasonal felicitations that you feel are appropriate)
  5. I said the rule is clear. I didn't say everybody agrees with it. Many will say it is perfectly acceptable to drag major warships into a battle and hold them there for screening purposes. That is an argument for another thread (IMHO) and does not apply here. The reinforcement argument is no longer valid after 20 minutes and again...not applicable here.
  6. I don't see a problem. When you restart, you are completely zero on everything except rank (280 crew). It's your choice as to whether or not you use all of that crew. You can do the Basic Cutter thing as long as you want. As @Macjimm says, they can't allow you to get the Exam rewards again, otherwise players would be doing it every week (day??) for the rewards.
  7. 3 pages of good argument on both sides! Hopefully @Ink will settle it soon (maybe he's on holiday). Personally, I feel that they should have either pressed the fight to a conclusion or disengaged. A Herc with 65% sails is a juicy target for a Prince. The rules are quite clear. If it is not your intention to fight, then it's griefing. I don't believe that assaulting the sails for 1.5 hours is intent to fight. They deserve a warning and perhaps a firm finger shaking!
  8. Any hints on this stuff? My main concern is the knowledge we already have. It took a great deal of effort to acquire this knowledge and I would hate to have to start all over again. If a book is modified, will we still own the book?
  9. Many request have been made to make them a little more smart. I have seen requests to be able to order them on a specific course, etc. I guess it is just not high on the dev's road map. To be fair, I have encountered a few players who use them well in combat.
  10. Advising surrender to avoid griefing, rewards griefing. Not a valid solution, really.
  11. The main issue that I find with the Privateer fleets are their range from the Capitol. If you compare KPR to MT, you see a major difference in how it affects game play. Because KPR is deep inland...and because there is no major traffic trying to bypass KPR, the Privateer fleets accomplish their mission of protecting the local area and (I guess) being available to be farmed. They range out a reasonable distance from the shore and really only affect operations in the local area. In the case of MT however, the location of the Capitol gives the Privateer Fleets far more ocean to cover and has a severe effect on the passage of traffic that may just want to get past the area. There are major traffic lanes involved and it seems to me that they unduly interfere with players movement. I have seen them in sight of Baracoa, which would mean that if you wish to avoid them, you have to detour around all of Cuba. I suggest that these fleets be range adjusted, depending on their location. KPR is very reasonable..MT is not. (I don't know about the other capitols).
  12. Now that is a ridiculous response. If someone if griefing, harassing and wasting your time...you should surrender??
  13. I agree with Despe on this one (very unusual!). It's ridiculous that you can be held in battle for one and a half hour. Game mechanics allow this to happen (there should be a way out), but if the intent is simply to hold someone in battle for this long, it's griefing.
  14. Pirates aren't "Pirates" and they won't be, according to the Devs. Just another nation. If there are certain players you can't attack, that's a "you" problem and not an issue for here. @Prince of Wales suggests you become a Pole, not attack them. I've put the following in the New Construction thread, which could give a bit of the swashbuckling feeling. Letter of Marque. Bribe the local Governor to issue a Letter of Marque so that you can go out Privateering. The Letter of Marque is good for one calendar month. Cost - 10K Doubloons Advantage - All 5th rate and above PVP kills give 1 Combat Mark. 6th rate and below gives 0.5 CM. Disadvantage - Can only be done in 5th rate or below. Zero real or Doubloon reward from combats (Bribes to Governor). Doubloons in Hold still exist and credit for other missions still in effect. Clan: HMCS
  15. Or just leave it alone. Anybody can hunt, anytime they want and if there are not enough targets when hunting as a Pirate, which is ludicrous, then switch to Danes. There's hardly any of them and you can hunt the map. All the OP asked for really is Outlaw battles, which is just an excuse for Green on Green and easily abused. Seal clubbing in your own nation.

  17. You might also consider a "Letter of Marque" I'm perfectly happy killing people as a Brit and taking their stuff, but if there were a new mechanic that made that more fun....
  18. I don't understand this. I hunt all the time and cannot remember that last time any of that happened. Come to think about it....It would have been back when I was a Pirate...Sayid is a terrible loot stealer. I basically live the Pirate life under a Brit flag, so effectively a Privateer.
  19. The real problem here is that you are getting mad about how another player chooses to play his game. It's offensive that you characterise anyone as a "dipshit", for not playing the way you want them to. Did you pay for their account?
  20. Why don't we just leave Pirates alone? They are simply another nation that some people enjoy because of the cool flags. All the special "Pirate" options were tried in the past and found to be unpopular. We all already act like Pirates when we sail out and take another player's sh..stuff.
  21. Now that trading has been fixed, it is very exciting to invest in an expensive cargo and make sure it gets to a port. Nothing boring about trading.
