  1. You have to buy a perk reset note in the Admiralty. I believe it costs 50 combat marks. Tough on a new player for sure
  2. This thread should be called "mitigate the Alts". By allowing singleton players to participate more in production, you reduce the value of Alts in the economy game. Allow us to gather more of our own resources (yes, we should travel for it and be hunted). Allow us to produce more with more buildings (but not in the green zone, so we have to travel and be hunted). The value of an Alt(s) is that he can gather/produce at a level that singletons cannot. If a singleton player could gather/produce 3-5 times more, these Alts would not have such a large advantage. What do we care if someone gets rich? Its about getting ships out to sea.
  3. You also might consider real world geographic representation. Perhaps by time zone or continent. Different viewpoints to be had.
  4. I'm from Scotland....so technically "English" is not my native language either! But point taken.
  5. Its about resource dropping. Lets have more resources. Who cares if we have a ton of money. It gets spent on ships that we sail out and fight with. More resources means more trade ships in OW. Just get the majority of good stuff out of the green zone.
  6. I'd enjoy more detailed navigation because I can do it, and clearly so can you. Most people in this game would HATE this kind of Nav. The trader tool allows us a rudimentary 3 point fix right now that I use successfully. Actual landmarks is about as far as I would suggest we go for visual navigation and open sea nav could be an automated Noon Sights. What you're suggesting is almost an entirely different game (a niche within a niche)
  7. Aaaarghhhh....We had a sextant fitted into our periscopes back in the day. Got rid of them as soon as we got LORAN/SATNAV. Too much like work!!
  8. I'm ambivalent. Its very realistic to have trouble identifying a ship at distance (for the sake of realism, we wouldn't even know friend or foe!). On the other hand, if it takes too much away from enjoying your game, it's a failure. At the moment I don't know who to chase or who to run from, and im not good enough yet to chase them all.
  9. Just get rid of the crossed swords and F11. Its not really reasonable to expect that you can disappear without a trace if you kill a Pirate right beside MT.
  10. A surrender function as described could add to the game. An "advantage" for not dying seems to me as counter-productive. It promotes caution. Rather you should earn a reward for achievement and here, the Warrant Officer suggestion has a lot of merit. Achievement in battle (sinking/capturing a ship, tough odds, etc) could give certain perks that improve your crew and ship performance. This stays tied to a ship and with it's loss, you lose some or all of the perk.
  11. I always did well with LORAN (except in red lighting). If we were to use the real life example of the 18th century, they took noon sights every day that they could see the sun and got themselves a decent position out of that. Dead reckoning otherwise with no correction for tidal/wind set.
  12. Good rewards for discovering a hidden port and living to tell of it
  13. I got the G key and pressed it a bunch for no result. Then it started pulling and I found that he was boarding me! Determined defender??? Everything went fine after that though.
  14. Note the sub in my profile...."There are two types of vessels out there...Submarines and targets..." In our game, there is only targets....so lets assure ourselves of a maximum amount.
  15. Not me, I'm new. Protect the carebears. They are part of this game. That doesn't mean pamper them. It needs to be much more attractive to leave the safezones and even carebears will venture forth eventually. To be fair, within 5 hours of starting this game, I was leaving the green zone for better trade opportunities, so it already encourages us to go outside. Now im solo hunting (and dying) in other peoples waters. I believe that there is already a progression.
  16. To add to the economic aspect, The real world brits had Crown Prize agents in Key ports (generally a hub). They would purchase the prizes (and cargos) that Captains brought in. There was definite risk to transporting your prizes to one of these locations and many prizes were recaptured. The further away you were from a port with a prize agent, the higher the rish in getting it sold. Right now, we instantly get money for sinking a ship. How far do we want to take the realism?
  17. There is nothing realistic in a bunch of ships waiting outside of the exact location of a battle instance, and then having an enemy ship falling into their laps. The idea that you get invisibility and a reasonable speed buff upon exit is a good one. Basing the buff on the time spent in the instance is a very good idea. We should be murdering Banished Privateer before he jumps on a poor little lamb...not after.
  18. I rarely PVE (most of my trading is OW...missions?). The example I gave of 10SOL was in the Patrol zone. They saw a battle with 60BR v 80 BR and joined in on the 80 side. That's just....silly (they were French). I solo hunt in OW and have been chased by uneven odds also. Usually I get away, but not always. C'est la Guerre.
  19. I've heard regular conversations over "Green zone gank fleets" and "seal clubbing" and I have felt the ridiculous pain of getting jumped by 10 SOLs while I'm attacking a trader in my little privateer. Bullying is only fun for the bullies. How about this? Green zones are safe. You cannot attack a nations ships in the green zone...ever. In patrol zone battles, you can only join the battle individually (no group joining) and you can only join on the side of the lowest BR. Patrol zone battles close in 3 minutes. OW battles have a reasonable BR limit, say 300%. Battles close in 3 minutes. I know the argument about how in the real world, a good leader is always using the best advantage he can get, but this is a game and nobody should be on the low end of a 12 v 1.

  21. unlimited repairs for midshipmen and ensigns maybe. Or perhaps only the lowest two ranks can use a basic cutter...if you want to sail a cutter after that, you have to buy or build one. same as a lynx
  22. Another option is to just award the patrol zone rewards when maint starts. The other day, I stupidly went to bed instead of sailing back to port and hitting the claim button. Completely my fault, but really, the rewards could easily be awarded at the end of day. Still like your idea of closing battles half an hour early
