  1. Did you check out the store? You can always get some extra DLC ships to avoid having to use all these permits and resources. Who has time for that hassle anyway, am I right?
  2. I'd really like one but sadly I only found the game shortly after alpha... even more of a shame since that would make a perfect DLC ship, more cosmetic than actual power. Maybe we can get a different version of it some day as DLC.
  3. @admin Could we please have a prussian infantry flag? Since french got one already and we have the Kingdom of Bavaria flag already, that barely has anyhing to do with the Kingdom of Prussia... After all Prussia was known for its infantry. It would be much more fitting and accurate than the Bavaria flag.
  4. Are the sounds and lightning effects new? Can't remember last time I had bad weather in NA.
  5. Yes, of course they do. But ships will be wiped and all new players after release will all start even / fair without books. Everyone who is not a "newb" had the chance to collect the books during testing prior to release and it is still possible. New players will face other new players both without books and veterans all have the chance to complete their collection now, which also helps with getting the game ready for release faster due to more people testing the new features / mechanics and reporting bugs / giving feedback. The books generally do matter ( obviously ) but they can only enhance skill that you already possess. They only really matter in engagements between opponents of very similar or equal skill. And this is why the "new players" and "fair" arguments are so void when it comes to this topic. Veteran vs veteran, books can matter and both had and still have the chance to collect them = fair and balanced. New player vs new player = books also can matter and both will start without after release = fair and balanced. I don't see the problem to be honest. The "new players hurr durr fair" argument is simply a excuse for people so they don't have to state their actual biased argument " I didn't bother to test the game much or grinded any books prior to release and now I want books to be wiped because I don't have them and don't want loyal testers to keep at least their progress on books for putting in all the time testing, because it would be fair to them but somehow in my twisted mindset I think it wouldn't be fair to me, even tho I had the same time and chance to unlock my books but simply didn't give a shit."
  6. Just quoting this so people who keep bringing this topic up can read it twice. Maybe reading it multiple times will make it easier for them to understand?
  7. I don't want to grind, because I already did ( unlike you most likely ). PvP is the only reason I play this game and if I did not want to PvP I would simply play on the "Peace" server, you buffoon.
  8. It surely will be. Grinding books again however won't be any fun for most that have been through it already. Neither me or any of the people I play with could be bothered to do it a second time.
  9. It is fairly obvious he doesn't have them. The vast majority of people asking for book wipe simply don't have the best. Can't lose what you don't have / didn't work for. The joke is on them fortunately, as if books were to be wiped they would have even lower chances of getting the better ones in a reasonable amount of time due to more competition in the market that would yet again need months to reach the level of saturation, where those asking for book wipe would have a good chance of getting the books. Then we have a few people who have the books but so much time on their hands and nothing else to do with their lives, that they are willing to repeat the grind a second time and most likely mainly to have the advantage of getting the best books as one of the first again. Think about it, now that most serious testers and loyal veterans have the best books the playing field is much more even and fair than it would be with a book wipe, once the hardcore grinders reach the best books again.
  10. It is sad that it had to come to this but maybe it is for the better. There are too many people wasting your time - too many haters / negative people and too many apple-polishers and fanboys. What you really need is players with significant game experience that provide honest and unbiased feedback that considers as many players / playstyles as possible, aswell as your vision for the game. What really helps development the most is well conceived, respectful and constructive negative feedback. I am sure it is nice to hear positive feedback and you deserve it for your excellent work but does it help the game / development? No, it really doesn't ( except for motivating you maybe ). But constructive negative feedback can lead to an improvement, if you can agree with it / see it from their perspective. I think if you want to ask the community on their opinion, you should do polls. It doesn't waste much of your time and you can see all opinions without having to read through dozens of pages.
  11. There is a simple solution to this "quandary". Don't state something as fact, if you can not be certain you can / will make it so. Can you see how "x,y and z will not be wiped" is different from "x,y and z may not be wiped"? Maybe you are used to being lied to, I am not. If you say one thing to someone and actually do the opposite, it is de facto a lie. Whether it is intentional or not does not really matter, however I am giving the benefit of the doubt and assume it was not intentional with xp, even tho the xp wipe was announced really close to release but for the book wipe it would definitely be intentional. The white knights and fanboys can call it whatever they like. So you're saying books won't be wiped? Because that is the last thing I read by admin on the matter. Turning back now would be wiping books regardless of stating otherwise previously, as done with xp. Is this supposed to be some poorly executed ad hominem attempt towards me? If so, you might want to point out the part where I am "whining and throwing a tantrum" and how it is disrupting your fun on the forums(?). I also liked most changes and sucked up the xp wipe without complaining, like the rest of the good guy fanboys. I have told admin how I appreciate him and his team for their excellent game before on multiple occasions. You may not believe it but I am one of the few users on this forum who is able to provide positive feedback aswell as negative. Pretty crazy, right? I am simply pointing out that, if books are wiped it will definitely not be a "mistake" as it may have been with xp. I can see how anything that isn't some sycophant fanboy nodding and praising may be labeled "whining" on this forum. Just as easily I could call people asking for book wipe "whiners". The truth is, it is simply about two different opinions.
  12. How does it matter whether or not the word "promise" was actually used? If you are a honourable man, your word is as good as a promise. More so if you are head of a company and make a statement on its official forum. Are you saying we should consider the possibility of him lying whenever he responds to a comment? That doesn't seem right and very respectful to admin surely? I doubt he is sharing his account. As we all know there are only a couple of guys working on NA to begin with and Ink has his own account aswell. Even if a co-worker would use the account, it is just as binding as he represents the company by using it.
  13. Yeah, agreed. I will avoid any futher time or money investment until at least this promise is actually kept. I am fine with rank xp wipe. I am fine with craft xp wipe. I am fine with not getting anything other than a non exclusive DLC for my extensive testing. But the books that I worked for at least have to be saved in order for me to stay interested in the game. With more and more DLC ships and the massive learning curve in NA, the "this and that isn't fair to new players" argument is getting more and more of a joke anyways. So yeah, personally I feel like I very much deserve to keep my books and see no reason why they should be wiped. Just a quick reminder that the "books are save" promise was made again in the very same thread that declared xp will be wiped after all. I think the devs did a great job with the game and there certainly is no age of sail game that can match it at this moment in time but I am not one of the suck it all up fanboys and breaking this promise too now would be nothing but insulting and disrespectful at this point.
  14. Why was this removed? Was a really nice idea for low risk and low income quests...
  15. I'd rather keep my books at least than getting a load of reals and doubloons that give me an actually significant headstart. Also now that we are getting a premium 4th rate and a total of 5 DLC ships, we can let the "not fair to new players" argument finally slide completely, when debating the final wipe. DLCs are the main imbalancer now.
  16. I completely agree. If I want to sink a bunch of ships that have no value and thus their destruction no meaning, I can go play garbage like wows. NA could be so much more than that. It's like they want to sell Legends inside NA now... The 2 small DLC ships we had were just perfect. Should have added Pandora and leave it at that.
  17. Pretty much this. Also it is not a one time thing, the player using crafted ships has to pay the cost / time to rebuild every time he loses a ship, while the DLC user gets it for free every time and can instead spend his game time / resources on upgrades, repairs and other things. It adds up over time and since every player has a finite time to play available per day, no matter of it being 1 hour or 10, getting up to 5 ships ( with unique stats and performance ) for free compared to someone who has to build his ships, it's most definitely pay2win. It is like you are buying an infinite amount of ingame resources and labour hours for a one time payment of real cash ( completely ignoring the fact that those ships have unique stats ). Pay2progess is for example when you buy a xp booster that allows you to unlock the next ship faster than someone who does not pay. You get there faster once but you both reach the same goal / ship and fight eachother on equal terms once you are both there. It doesn't hello kitty the other guy over on a daily basis indefinitely. I liked DLC ships when we had 2 small but now we get 5 already, one of them being a 3-4th rate. If I continue to play, I'll only use DLC ships. I feel bad about the fools who will craft their ships and actually risk something, while I throw my fleet of free, disposable and low reward ships at them. The only way this would be balanced, fair and compatible with the rest of the game is if they made DLC ships underperforming compared to crafted ships or only permits. This will never happend, however. Kind of amusing how they made crafted ships need those permits, some of which are RNG dependant and thus rare too, and even harder to get good woods to build them at the same time, isn't it? So you get better ships easier and faster, the more DLCs you own but crafting certain ships is made harder and more difficult. Seems about right.
  18. Every time I forget about it someone reminds me how awesome it would be to have storm battles in NA. I never even had the chance to test them....
  19. I agree in that they did only good ( for me anyways ) but that was when we only had 2 small DLC ships, the L'Hermione is already bigger than Hercules and the new premium Wasa is a bit over the top in my opinion. Now with the new DLCs you can have a whole fleet of free ships on demand every day and let's be real - everyone who wants to be competitive on the war server will absolutely need that 4th rate. Also I hate crafting and had little sympathy for those complaining about DLC ships when we only had 2 but the more DLC ships you are adding, the more idiotic it becomes to actually craft ships for costly and rare materials, only to fight against ships that are free / without cost. Sinking a premium / DLC ship feels highly unrewarding and last time I checked actually is, probably to avoid alt farming with free DLC ships. I think the 2-3 DLC ships we had were golden. Enough to stay in game and have some daily PvP without fear of loss but at the same time there was balance due to them being small ships that are no match for larger frigates and SOLs and thus building ships and economy was still important. Now we get this 4th rate, and I have this strange feeling that it will be a wee bit on the overperforming side, maybe nerfed some a few months later when the damage is already done but enough copies are sold. I hope you understand my concerns but I don't know what the cooldown will be etc. , maybe you can make it actually balanced. Forcing new players to get the DLC ships on top of the base game to be competitive is one thing but at some point only a fool will craft a ship, when he can get a better for free without effort, only by paying once. I think you are moving a bit too fast with the addition of more and more DLC ships. Would be fine if you removed economy / crafting completely and all ships that are not DLC ships can be purchased with PvP marks. If I buy those DLC ships, I will drop crafting ships completely - why would I bother, I'll just play whenever I can redeem this premium 4th rate. For free, no rare woods or permits needed. Just push the button and there it is. It's not that I don't like that - I really do. It's simply bullshit to everyone who wants to sail a ship that has to be crafted. DLC ships are great but they render the economy and crafting obsolete once you add too many and too high tiers and almost force people to buy them due to scarcity of meta wood and permits, leaving the use of crafted ships with a really shitty cost efficiency. Maybe this is your very intention but I think higher of you and would rather hope otherwise. Then again, it's all about the money, I guess.
  20. Yeah, very true. Keep in mind however, you can not hit population, that does not exist to begin with.
  21. I supported the addition of those 2 and think they did more good for the game than harm. They give players a small but capable ship that they can risk without worrying about loss, so they can never be pushed out of the game completely or get too frustrated and they let people avoid most of the crafting and eco game to focus on only fighting, if they have limited time, don't enjoy eco / crafting or both. The price for those two ships is fair enough aswell and helps support the game ( hopefully ). But I think it is absolutely, where they should have drawn the line. Pandora and L'Hermione are already pushing it and Rettvisan is pretty much the breaking point ( if it will be a note and not a permit ). Getting this 4th rate with power of a 3rd rate ( first Wasa / Gustav Adolf comes to mind btw ) without having to actually craft / build it will make it a absolute necessity. If it would actually be implemented as permit and be balanced, I guess it could be fine but what are the odds of that? Now among other DLCs a new player would have to get at least 2-3 small DLC ships to get started and definitely the Rettvisan at some point. Let's not forget this isn't a free2play game we are talking about here, it has a 40$ base price. Now even tho there is a chance the devs only want to milk me dry and drop the game and its development after release completely, I am willing to pay that because I love the game and enjoyed it very much - the question is, whether or not the average new player will be aswell, looking at at "mostly negative (35%)" rating on steam. If I had never played NA and found the storepage on steam, this 35% rating combined with 9 DLCs would be more than a bunch of red flags. Personally I will hold off on buying these new DLC ships for a while and see how the game and player population develops first. Gamelabs did an excellent job with the game so far and I paid plenty already to show my appreciation and enjoy their work but at this point I want to see what they are doing with all this cash and only 2 programmers and how the game is progressing / where it is heading, before I invest further. If I knew that Naval Action development actually profitted proportionately to DLC revenue and the money does not go into other gamelab projects or somewhere else ( which it probably does ), I would buy each and every DLC they throw at me ( as long as they wouldn't go completely overboard with the pay2win creep ). Guess I have to start following admins mantra "Expect the worst, keep expectations low." ...
  22. I'm sorry but can we forget everything else and focus on this here for a moment? I mean let's be realistic, the game simply won't be worth playing with 250 players. The few new players we may get will only compensate a fraction of those that quit. With the woods being rare and everything harder to get and grindy, you will have to own all DLC ships to be competitive on the war server. I don't see a lot of new players making such an investment when looking at the ratings on the store page, as @McKillen already pointed out. And even worse, if they don't buy the DLC ships, they will get hello kittyed over by exactly those and lose their hard earned regular ships due to it... leading to more negative reviews. I mean seriously guys?
