  1. I believe you picked the Antilles because Aves presented a ready made base. But just for the sake of arguement did you gents even consider the Western Gulf if Mexico or the Panama? There are no capitols anywhere near these frontier spots. You would have had to take one temporary stepping stone port to get there. But even that separation would make that frontier belong to just the pirate coalition that much more. It also would have provided relatively virgin territory others wouldn't have been as fired up to defend. Admit it, Aves drew you in like a shiney object.
  2. Mrdoomed,You are on the right track going West for the time being. It seems to be the least organized more chaotic frontier region. A nomadic pirate clan that learns to live out of hidden coves of Free Towns will succeed where large nation like pirates in a group somewhere will have a harder time surviving. If I were building a pirate clan today this is what I would do: (Because if you really want a successful pirate clan you are going to have to build it) Scout out a series of Free Cities that are near other nations starting zones or NPC hunting areas. Set up out posts at these cities. Raid the locals till they get organized enough to give you sufficient trouble. Pull up the tents and move to the next raiding spot. Periodically teleport back the Mortimer and recapture whatever you can of the Bahamas when you can. But otherwise stay nomadic. When you first get to a Free city hunting ground spend the first day capturing NPC ships you want to use. They are free after all. You should have minimal need for any Econ at all and can spend almost all your time hunting prizes. Whenever you need money just cap some NPC trade vessels and sell the cargo and vessels to the Free City. This should keep you in plenty of repair kits and modules. Advertise your Nomad pirate clan in pirate chat as much as possible. I think a lot of pirates are simply playing as a weak national simply because they haven't tried other ways yet. If you have your heart dead set on building ships. Find a nation you can be friendly with and strike up a deal to either have some of their ports or for them to sell you all the materials. Most nations in the game, especially the smaller ones, would probably entertain giving you a space to build ships in exchange for a "mercenary style" alliance.
  3. I'm glad to hear of your intent to honorably move to the Dutch team. We look favorably on the Dutch and they are some good fighters. This is just me talking and only my opinion but I think you will like it there and may even find a solid home where you can play the way you like too.Best of luck to your new Dutch squadron o7
  4. We're talking about Poe. I'm pretty sure it was full load of hemp. For medicinal purposes.
  5. Well actually it as 20mil and one sheep in a leather teddy. I'm not judging. I still think it was a bargain. But we're going to miss Dolly.
  6. It's a bit confusing and difficult to follow the various news threads. If we all started our topics with the server it pertains too this section of the forum would really be better. Like this kind of title "PVP1- British battle of Some place", "PVP2 - I hate the French" or similar.
  7. I don't think it was a dark day for pirates at all. They took Islet back from the USA. This is a significant turn of events. Maybe they hold it, maybe they don't. But the fact they could take it says a lot and may even be the tiniest spark that is about ignite a fire storm of true pirates. Yes you lost some pirate clans. But is it a loss or a reorganization? You can't force a team of different thinking groups to play nice together for but short periods of time. They can come together for any one grand event. But if you try to force it together long term you get a tiring series if arguementive meetings trying to decide on goals, targets or just about anything. Why, because the common core just isn't there. @Brucy This is the exact same thing I told the French team when players were leaving and heading off to New Orleans following your blitz of our ports. "I know it seems bad buts it's really not. We're actually increasing our value and pound for pound we're getting better." If CF stick this out the same will happen for you. Be it good or bad the smaller core group of pirates that emerge will be more like minded thinkers. Just the core group however, I'm pretty sure the pirate team will always be plagued by PVE oriented Johnny Depp wanna be's. That's the real curse of the black pearl. Congrats Pirates on taking back Islet!
  8. Slightly different suggestion. Though it is unfortunate your friend got sunk in his mission there does need to be things in this game a solo pirate can do by himself. Hunting mission runners is one of those. My suggestion: use the BR system. If a lone pirate jumps in and BR is comparable then they fight it out. If a huge fleet jumps in with huge BR then the mission runner should be allowed to exit. Maybe.
  9. War with Britain: sea patrols around Haiti are as good as can be expected from us smaller nations. I am convinced you are at war with Britain.Pirate Alliance: Your story can not be disproved by me. However it cannot be proven by me either untill I see evidence you fight the pirates. We are nations of similar size. We chose to fight them while Sweden chose another path. We'll leave it at that. Hostile to France: A total waste of your time and efforts but we will fight you if it's what you want. France did not see itself as hostile to Sweden though your relation with the pirates was questionable for obvious reasons.
  10. Your at war with Britain, Hostile to France and non-invasion with Pirates? Evidence would be to the contrary. Your fleet was sited far to the SouthEast working with the Pirates there. Hardly a non-aggression pact. That's an alliance. The British own Haiti and your not attacking anything there that I have noticed. Though to be fair you may just be doing sea patrols so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's just trendy to say your at war with Britain? Hostile to France? Why would this be? The French have never threatened a single Swedish port or even talked of it. You recently posted you started out working with France to create an anti-pirate coalition. I'm sorry sir, but action speak loudest. You never actually helped anyone in an anti-pirate coalition that can be proven. You have entered into alliances with Pirates whom you previously told others you were against. And you have no logical reason to be hostile to France if not doing so to support pirate allies. I find the Swedes most confusing.
  11. I would suspect, and I am just guessing here, that this whole thread is sort of moot. There are actually different classes of ports beyond just shallow and deep. There are also going to be terrain eventually and mega forts with dozens of guns that can easily handle a single sacrificial 3rd rate leading a charge. When these changes hit the dynamics of port battles will change greatly. Just the fact a stretch of land may force a tower to only be assault from one specific side can be a game changer. Shallow water PB's will likely have the smaller forts, ship movements about the terrain will likely be easier and the towers won't be so neatly spread out. Shallow PB are probably going to generally be the easier PB's but soon terrain will most likely dictate what is actually easy and what is not.
  12. Oblit has a point. So far they are veterans of: Won 26 successful PB vs stationary towers Won 1 half defended DW PB Lost 1 equal DW PB Lost 4 equal shallow water PB How can they possibly be expected to plan a defense or retake of the Bahamas themselves. When you Northern Pirates come up with a successful plan for fighting players then you go talk to them Hehe
  13. You don't need to be France. Your pirates. Much more like real ones. There is a bunch of rich fat mission running NPC hunters vacationing on the seas near Comp du Roy. You have all the ports and resources there you could need. All you have to do is sail over there and take their stuff. They may be flying black flags. Take those too. They haven't earned them.
  14. Take a Traders Snow and load it up with any cargo you like. Sail it from you western most SE port (Yag) through the bay and down to your eastern most port (Santa T). Do it casually just like your in your own back yard. If you make it I'll start calling the SE Pirate territory. If you can't make it unmolested then it's time for you to admit all you own is the points of land.
  15. Given the current course of events locally and the map in general I would concur with Spelunkers long term predictions. That said, any map reset will also scramble things. Any fundamental rules changes to pirate conquest play following such a map reset could also become problematic. Here is the irony. I believe many pirates are currently following the Zerg mantra that if you play to crush a fair portion of the crushed will just join your team, The creature of habit tendencies of human nature make this true and in EVE we saw this effect common in territories rolled over by both Goons and Band of brothers. So it's logical some French may go pirate if the current map condition remain. Should a map reset occur that is accompanied by a rules change to pirate conquest capabilities it's highly likely we would see a large portion of the current pirate team actually join France. The future of our two groups are probably linked whether we like it or not.
  16. Crossing my fingers on a map reset before we have to get into any of that crap.
  17. @Brucy I'll throw you a bone here. Basically you can't offer us peace. Peace sucks in a pvp game. Offering us mission and NPC hunting grounds are equally as worthless. You have to offer us something to fight worth while. You have to offer a target and a war front to replace yourselves and the means to wage that better war.
  18. I would have agreed with this a few weeks ago. Funny thing about non-role playing PVE and Econ players is they mostly are soloists. They are not particularly loyal beyond what is good for themselves. So once pirates started offering to sell and haul this same iron it became a problem that solved itself. As long as they don't ask for more profit than it costs to have NPCs deliver it in from across the map everybody wins. Since I can't enter a pirate port it gets delivered to me at a free town and I don't even have to do any sailing which makes the added cost all that more worth while.
  19. I think they will remove it when the game goes live. But during an alpha it may be a warranted feature.
  20. I heard this Slamz guy was secretly dating Kim Kardashian. But you know celebrity rumors. <shrug>
  21. I think the mechanic will be the same for deep water ports once everyone is driving rate ships. Right now I suspect most DW ports are taken out of shear BR advantage. This will only hold as long as everyone is leveling and some have out leveled others. Once we're all top leveled out the DW ports will be the same as shallow but with more towers. Perhaps at the 1st rate level the towers will Become inconsequential. Anyway, I wouldn't get to worked up about any of this yet. When port battle terrain comes out this whole dynamic us going to drastically change.
  22. You continue to think the ports matter. I'm curious as to why?Answer this question for yourself. Your about to go to war with an entity x15 your size. In a game where a Zerg can all but guarantee the loss of most likely all your ports. This is obvious day one. Wouldn't this be the first problem any intelligent group in this situation would have solved? All you accomplished by taking all the dots was destroying France for new players that don't even know who Slamz is. We've picked up 3 players this week that converted from other teams for the non-stop pvp France has to offer. But yes, we won't get any newbies that want to PVE and mission run. They'll go pirate because they own all the dots and easy mode. Actually? Scratch that. They probably won't go pirate. Your newb zone is as messed up as ours.
  23. Ok let's take your example. A 500 player British Zerg is pushing East in the Antilles each one owns 1 3rdate and is using it there. A much smaller Spanish fleet decided to attack the zergs rear holding back in the Gulf of Mexico. To use the 3rd rate to have a maximum series of x20 high BR port battles this Zerg would have to turn around and spend a day sailing back to the gulf to fight the Spanish. While doing so a French group counter attacks the Antilles. This forces the Zerg to split up into 250 Antilles and 250 Gulf. They can't bring the full force of the Zerg to every front. Now let's go with the same Zerg but stockpiles 3rds all over the Carribean. 500 players teleport back to the Gulf hop into waiting free 3rd rates and attack 20 Spanish ports anihilating them all. But the French attacked so 3hrs later the teleport into those warehoused 3rds and annihilate 20 French ports. Since this Dutch guy called this Brits mom a name 3 hrs later they teleport to South America and Destroy 20 Dutch ports. 60 maximum strength PB in 9 hours. You just can't have teleportation and stockpiles of free top end warships without creating game dominant zergs. I don't think I have the answer. I'm just suggesting this is something worth looking at.
  24. It's about putting in some limitation for zergs so the rest of the game has a chance to combat them without having to just become a second Zerg. Teleportation and stock piles of free 3rd rates make so there is no soft flank to an over stretched Zerg nation to challenge. Every three hours the Zerg can focus its full weight in 3rds or higher to any flank. This will eventually force a "third rates Only" rule for deep water port battles. New players sole job will be to grind to 3rd rate captain and join one of the two zergs in the game. This is driven by a few factors. The largest is in NA a stock pile of 20 third rates per player is free. Teleportation around battle front allows full power projection every 3 hours. There is no need to assign clans to guard flanks, you can reasonable have the same elite 25 captains attend most all contended PBs. Upkeep for having fortress defenses in every out of the way port you capture is also free. There is no negative side to play to crush and absorbing all the other players into one of two teams. Essentially if we don't add Zerg limitations the game will naturally gravitate to two competing zergs.
  25. I know what we had that night. Had you left a B team force to defend Aves sitting in the port the worst thing that could have happened to you was running into the British that were already heading to Aves and you would have had the exact same OS battle you ended up having out side Aves anyway.
