  1. The early war is quite difficult for me but following Shiloh our fortunes slowly begin to change with excellent victories at 1st Winchester, Cross Keys and Port Republic. Then comes the battle of Gaines' Mill. With only 18 brigades in play, we surround the Yankee army and wipe them out with almost a 7 to 1 K/D ratio including 4 surrenders. My finest battle in the campaign so far.
  2. BTW, it appears it really isn't apparent in my campaign, but I am using my reputation to buy men, so the guns and training levels of my troops is especially poor at the beginning of the campaign as I am pretty much forced to buy weapons and use recruits. They will slowly start improving as time goes by. So does my generalship... which isn't the greatest at the start of the campaign.
  3. Cheers, Panda! I have played lots of ACW games, and I must say this is by far the best. So in one way, its kinda sad... 😢 😁
  4. I won't be posting all my videos here (unless folks really want to see them). They will be coming out, hopefully at least one per day as the campaign is complete. Of course, you can't start a legendary Confederate campaign without playing the infamous The Potomac Fort:
  5. I personally like the strategic format of UGCW, even though it is a linear format. Spent hours and hours in camp with my troops and loved every minute of it.
  6. So after over 2 years I return to play a Legendary Confederate Campaign and go from the Potomac Fort to Washington fighting 38 battles along the way for the win! In total the Union losses 1,024,642 killed and 24,763 captured to the Rebs 291,613 casualties. Hope you enjoy the series. 7. I think for early buyers they got the DLC free, but after that, the rest of us had to buy it.
  8. The Barbary Campaign is DLC which you have to buy.
  9. It is the number of double rounds the ship has by installing the Double Shot module on the ship. Double shot per gun: +5
  10. It's not that complicated mate. If I notice my computer flashing like crazy, I know it is trying to update one of my games. If I don't want updates I just go to steam, click on the update page and on the right side of the update, you can select no auto updating. So when you go to check out the integrity of your game, if any updates start up, just go to that page and turn off auto updating.
  11. You can turn off auto update of any game on Steam. I do so regularly. Watch this video and verify the integrity of your game:
  12. Roughly translated: This thread should be moved to support. Ce thread doit être déplacé vers le support.
  13. There are certain points, in each campaign, which will see a minimum force for which you must defeat. It's not scaling per se, it is simply, the minimum force the confederates or yanks will bring to a battle. The Siege of Suffolk is a tough battle. Here is how I played it in my legendary campaign (which I completed):
  14. Here is your problem: You sold the Astarte, which is a merchant, and therefore you received no guns from the sale of that ship. You then bought a 6th rate, and 6 rates require 28 cannons. When you buy a ship it comes without cannons or crew. Since you buy guns by the "deck", you need 28 cannons of the same type to put guns on your 6 rate which has a single deck. When you click on "add cannons" you have a list of cannons ranging from 4 pdrs to 9 pdrs. The list, however, is grayed out because you need 28 of a single type of cannon and not a single type of cannon has more than 11 guns. Therefore, you are unable to buy guns for your new 6th rate. A recommendation: HMS Richmond alone is more than capable of handling both Spanish ships at the beginning of the scenario and you don't even need HMS Ceres to help. Board the Galga and take her as a prize. You then have your first 6th rate and she comes with a full complement of cannons. Here is a video of the battle (Acting Captain) in which I engage both Spanish ships with the Richmond, sink one and then capture the Galga:
  15. The bayonet is an intermediate level research item. Before researching the bayonet (the spike bayonet to be specific) you will still have access to early weapons such as the Sea Service '38 musket with bayonet. By researching Basic tier items such as French Weapons Supply I and British Weapons Supply I, when you get to the intermediate level, you can then research French Weapons Supply II and British Weapons Supply II which will (when combined with the Bayonet research) give you advanced weapons with bayonets. So, no it is not a bug. You do have access to early model muskets with bayonets at the start of the campaign. But if you want better (intermediate) weapons with bayonets, you have to research the muskets you want to put them on first.
  16. What is fairly clear is, the smaller the unit the more likely it will suffer sufficient casualties to cause it to disintegrate. You will thus not only lose the entire unit, but the officer as well. After playing all the campaigns, I was pretty much using only Marine Corps units of 320 men for my land battles. As I look back, that was a mistake. Though you can win almost all the land battles with a substantial Marine Corps, the problem is that every time you capture an enemy artillery unit, it dilutes that unit's manpower by 50 men. The problem with bringing sailors from your warships is that you put very experienced officers in the line of fire and many times they are wounded or killed. If I was to replay the campaigns, I would go with a strong Marine Corps, but bring at least 1 ships worth of men. I would hold the sailors in reserve and as I destroyed enemy artillery batteries I would capture them with the sailors. This would allow the Marine Corps to do the heavy lifting at full strength. I would also consider replacing the ships officers with lower ranking ones as the game is pretty random about officer casualties and even holding them in reserve they can still take an artillery shot which kills the Captain of your ship. Remember also, that the more men you commit to the land battle, the more men the enemy will have to fight you as it will scale up in response. That is another reason to build a strong Marine Corps of 320 man units and leave your sailors in their ships if at all possible.
  17. We smash the pirate fleet sinking 8 and capturing 5 as the campaign comes to an end. Hope ya'll enjoyed the videos. Big thanks to all the new subscribers! It was quite fun playing the campaign.
  18. Tripoli falls rather easily to my Marine Corps and Fleet. Luckily I capture a 4th rate SOL to make up for the loss of the Constellation! Little did I know that I needed that ship for the coming and final naval battle!
  19. I say Damn the Batteries and ploy into the Harbor and recapture the Philadelphia. Unfortunately, I lose the Constellation! Yikes!
  20. I take just my Marine Corps and barely am able to take the hill and hold it. Still a victory is a victory.
  21. Another crushing defeat as we sink 7 and capture 4. Among the prizes are 2 4th rates and a 5th rate.
  22. With the help of some mercenaries, my 3 star Marine Corps and sailors off the 5th rates USS Essex and Enterprise, we take the crossing, hold it and eventually wipe out our enemy. Casualties were reduced by having Crew Healing at 25%, though we did lose 2 very good Marine Corps Officers.
  23. Outnumbered more than 2 to 1, we crush the pirates sinking 9 and capturing 6. Our prizes include 2 4th rates, 2 5th rates and 1 6th rate.
  24. A fairly comprehensive Port as I sell a 5th rate, bring a captured 4th rate into my squadron, prepare my sailors to keep their 3 perks, reassign officers, and equip my ships with better guns. Later, before the battle, I assigned my Prussian muskets (which I forgot about) and added some modules. Pretty much spending every doubloon I had...
