it was intended to have no old style class system wich locks abilitys to your character. you can folow the path of an navy officer accepting orders of admirality and progressing in the ranks at the same time no one forces you to do it. in the mean time if you want to you can offer yourself as escort for Trading players or simply as Privateer to clear an area from x or Y with the payment coming for an real player that agreeded to the offer. some people tend more towards Crafting other to just hauling and sailing around and then there are others who want this to be turned into an quick matchmaking action game since they dont care about the things around fighting like others do. and so on
