  1. I went to sleep woke up, and am now of the opinion that open (oops I mean Empty) World killed this game. Weren't there Sea Trials over a year ago? I'm sad I missed them. If I have a few hours to spend on this game, what do I want to see happen, in order? 1) Big fleet battles between human players. 2) Smaller fleet actions between human players. 3) Crafting/ship creation/trait optimization. 4) Trading. 99999) Hours of empty world naval sailing simulation. What do I get? By hours of time spent, the exact opposite of what I want. I think in all my hours of playing Naval Action, I've gotten a grand total of maybe 1 hour of #1, and a handful of hours of #2. Why do we have to pay such huge hours of #4 and #99999 to get what we want? RvR and PvP are more similar than we think... it's just that RvR, true RvR doesn't so much exist anymore, and there's only some PvP. EW has taken what we like from this game, and forces us to do what we don't like, to get to what we do. Why do people quit? Time cost. The above hasn't even considered the time cost of losing a pvp battle. The time cost of losing RvR is so incredible that people simply won't do RvR with any chance of losing, and few are willing to do PvP with the high time cost of losing.
  2. I think the main reason I'm still playing Naval Action at all is because I found some fun guys to sail with. Honestly, the sheer amount of time it takes to play NA is insane. Hours and hours merely moving from point A to point B. Hundreds of hours of PvE grind. Scores of hours trading to get yourself the funds and crafting to get a nice ship (and I'm even with a group that gives out ships like candy. How are you supposed to do it solo??). And then, one mistake, boom, investment gone. You learn to fight against AI, but humans are nothing like that. The actual amount of time spent in RvR or PvP, compared to other things in the game, is fairly minuscule. I'm not surprised people quit. I hate to say it, but if Naval Action Legends is good, I'll probably just play that. Especially if they do historical set pieces of big battles like Trafalgar or the historical 1v1's. Who wouldn't like ranked play? Heck, save up some doubloons doing regular matches, and then bid on who gets the big ships in the historical battles. I'd love a game of matches, rather than the OW stuff. The battles are what I like about this game. It's just hard when the cost of losing is so incredibly high. For comparison, what is the time cost of losing a battle in Naval action, and what is the cost of losing a match in PUBG? Is winning a battle in Naval Action significantly more fun than winning a match in PUBG, or doing well in one? ^-- Among many reasons why I find myself playing more and more PUBG and less and less NA.
  3. If Sainte Lucie is any indicator the pirates seem to have beaten y'all back to the Lesser Antilles. Should we put out a travel advisory that the Lesser Antilles are now off-limits to vessels sailing French flags? Either that or operation Fall Gelb is successful, proceeding with Fall Rot. - Hugh Smythe
  4. I returned to Naval Action a month ago and joined ICS on a whim. It was a stroke of luck. I wasn't a very good player, having only done PvE last year. They didn't care. They were more than happy to sail with me and teach me the ropes, such as how to manual sail and line sail. More than that, they made it fun! My first night back, everyone piled into some 5th rate fleet battles, and I got to line sail against superior numbers for the first time. It was a total blast. In the days that followed, a fellow national named Solas (French, BORK) put out a hit order on ICS (at the time we were French too). The Vic he promised as bounty was never paid out! Something to remember for anyone considering dealing with the French. We got targeted in a big way for a couple days. I wound up in a fight against experienced Brit player Sid Barrett (who I must tip my hat to, respectful when he had the upper hand and graceful in defeat). Got my butt handed to me, but eventually managed to escape the battle. Amadeus (DICS) and Aristocat (French, unclanned) responded and counter-jumped. It was my first taste of PvP, and it was great! Shortly after, I got to see what RvR can be like in a Port Battle against the Dutch, and learned just how effective a group with organized comms can be. Tales of Yoda's trading adventures and brawling in Indiamen were great fun. I was hooked. Basically, it doesn't matter your play-style, this clan has something for you. PvP, PvE, trading, crafting, you'll find your sweet spot. We've organized trading convoys halfway across the map to get resources to build the ships we want, in the builds we want. We all hang out in TeamSpeak. It makes coordinating during battles against AI or players very helpful. It's fun to get to know the players you're sailing with. Something else this clan does different, is that we all pool resources. Shit happens, people get capped, people get sunk... but as long as you're trying and learning, we're more than happy to get everyone back on their feet and back in the game. It's stupid to nickel and dime clan or nation members over resources or ships. Everyone is better off if you don't. DICS have some of the most generous, experienced, and helpful players around. So whether you're a new player or a grizzled veteran who just wants some friendly folks to sail with, check us out. The only negative I have experienced from being in ICS wasn't actually from ICS. It was the toxic vitriol against us from other French clans when we were in the French nation. It was nuts. There may have been a couple of saner heads here or there in France, but by not taking a public and visible stand against the toxic players and their vitriol, from my perspective they were complicit in the hate and rage that made me consider quitting the game. But! Now that we are Danish, not only is the grass greener, there's palm trees, the beer is great, and fellow nationals in other clans are actually positive and friendly in nation chat. CCCP, SCAR, and HOST are great clans to be in the same nation with. Denmark has become a nation that the sun never sets on. Get this: during our switch to Denmark, we discovered one of our guys didn't have Forged Papers. That sucked. We didn't want to lose him, but he would have to delete his high-level character and lose all his xp and books and such. He came anyways. Now we are working on power-leveling him back up. If I hadn't had any Forged Papers, I would have done the same. This game is just that much better with the right group, and this is one worth restarting for. I enthusiastically endorse this clan, and nation! Hugh Smythe [DICS] (Denmark-Norge)
  5. For all those accusing ICS of choosing clan over nation... look at who's sabotaged the peace deals. Who attacked the Danes the previous two times the truces fell through? Even more, who was happy to gain Conquest Marks from Bridgetown and other port flips the Danes worked to set and then didn't attend? Who, after benefiting from this arrangement (and only after), then promptly attacked the Danes without warning? Who are now looking for any excuse to break the current peace (in this thread alone)? Given the history of attempted peaces falling through, I really wonder if this one will hold. Watch carefully to see who causes it to fall through if it does... I wonder if the guys getting worked up about the Danes taking Swedish territory until the Swedes can take it, have Conquest Mark income up there at stake that they don't want to lose very fast... makes me wonder who puts clan or personal interest above nation. After the first few battles with the Danes, ICS saw how pointless it was, and were willing to take a personal hit to end it, by paying the Danes the Indiamen they asked for to accept a truce. ICS, and not anyone else in France, paid that. Who else in France has been willing to take a personal hit, in exchange for something that in their opinion will help the nation, at cost to themselves? From what I've seen and heard, ICS has and always has wanted to go after the Brits. The Dutch are fun, kudos to you guys. We saw the war with the Danes as a pointless distraction from the beginning, which distraction prevented France from having the concentrated force necessary to defend Haiti against the Brits. I get that people in the nation want different things. A lot want OW PvP, others are more into RvR. A couple traders and economists sailing around. I like Vllad's humorous post about the 4 types of NA players in another thread. Whatever we do to try to work with each other as a nation, we should try to work towards goals that accommodate each playstyle as much as possible. Here's the big one: if someone disagrees with you, fine. Disagree all you want, argue all you want, I'm all for debate, but when it devolves in endless shouting and toxic personal attacks in nation, that makes people not want to play with you guys anymore. If we can learn to disagree without descending in hate and vitriol and actually act like adults, great. If not, bye.
  6. I did this (lost a ship) a few weeks ago and posted the exact same problem/proposal. It's such a simple fix. They NEED to implement it.
  7. As the game currently stands, little nations quickly get rolled and there isn't a natural state of flux. Once a nation is one-ported, it's very difficult for them to recover. How is this game going to last more than a few months after release? Are they going to do hard resets on a regular basis? There is a better way. What if we tweaked Forged Papers so that there's no limit per se, but you could only use them every so often (say 3 months) - but can only switch to a nation with fewer ports than your current nation. Make it so when you use Forged Papers, you can only switch to a smaller nation, however you define that. Right now on PvP global, lots of Americans jumped ship to join either the Brits or the Pirates... it would have been better for the balance of the server if they'd had to choose between staying, and joining the Dutch, French, Danes, or Swedes... it only helps the big nations zerg harder when they swallow up every refugee. This would keep players from flocking into the 2 big nations like what happened before the server wipe, and would help the little nations a lot. People wouldn't have to worry about running out of Forged Papers - they'd just have to wait until the countdown ended if they didn't like their new nation.
  8. Developers, In port, in the view fleet screen, please change to the "Dismiss" button to say "Destroy". It is not obvious what "Dismiss" means. You need to explain this to new players (like myself) or many of us are going to destroy, annihilate, into the ether our new fleet ships on accident, because your button is not clear. Changing this button to read "Destroy" will make clear what this button does. Also, have it be small (so people don't click it on accident), or at the very least, have it be above the "move to port" button. Sincerely, a frustrated player whose ship now resides in the Plane of Oblivion.
  9. deleted during switch from French nation to Danish nation, now that switch is complete, posting new review of experience with clan below.
  10. 1)Will there be an arcade or battle mode? I'd love to play ranked matches against other players, or set pieces reenacting historical battles. Open world started fun but turned meh really quickly... NA's strength is its incredible battle system, and only allowing OW doesn't play to that strength at all. Letting people skip the OW stuff if they don't want to and jump straight to fighting would draw in many more normal gamers, some of whom would probably go on after to give OW a try (especially if OW gave more ship customization options than battle mode). More playstyle choices please! 2) Will it ever be possible to have 2 ships board another at the same time? Or to board a ship that is itself boarding a ship? It'd be more historically immersive. 2 little guys could potentially take on a bigger ship, whereas right now unless you are an absolute minigame guru the big ship always wins. In PvE at least, a really cheap way to guarantee boarding victories is to team up and have 1 guy board a ship while the other lines up to pour grape into the stern. No counter, no skill, just a cheap tactic. But it works. I dunno... or have it so that if a ship tries to board you while you are yourself boarding, it cancels your boarding attack and puts you on the defense? Would make boarding and counter-boarding more tactical... lots of possibilities.
