  1. Soldier, any reason for me to deviate from my 24 how/20 par builds and add 1 or 2 whits? Worth it?
  2. Do either of you gents have a stream of your battle by chance?
  3. I'm in the Cold Harbor Wilderness campaign, and I suspected some bloody side missions...My first attempt on Brock Road...was not elegant. I tried a double flank but instead it didn't time it well enough and only 1 wing engaged at a time. I also didn't take a wide enough flanking position on my right hand side and still ran pretty much into their center. I was starting to make head way and push through the 1st layer, but it was too bloody for my taste and I'm hitting the reset button. Thinking about a single flanking maneuver with the vast majority of my forces next time. Looking at the map, going to the right side of the map seems like it has the most cover for an approach. When I glimpsed their defenses though it looked pretty deep and multi-layered. Not sure a flanking assault will work here. What did other peeps do here?
  4. I use a fairly standard Army naming convention for the infantry so I can see their org structure at a glance. An example would be "2-2-1 Volunteers". 2nd Corps, 2nd Division, 1st Brigade. The volunteers portion denotes that they've got substandard weapons and 1-star or less worth of experience. Decent weapons (i.e. Springfield 1855s and above) and 2-star status would be denoted by "Regulars". 3-star or 2-star Brigades that are on the verge of getting 3-star status are given special names in parenthesis such as "1-1-1 Regulars (Iron)".
  5. 6 batteries of 20 lbs Parrotts. Thanks for the tip!
  6. About what range were you at in the Parrott's range capability? About medium? Or max?
  7. So did you bother to do it?
  8. Um wow. Its the first side mission that kind of opened my eyes a little bit. That fort's a tough nut to crack even at 2.5:1 odds. Should I even bother with this? My first attempt ended in a helluva lot of broken bodies on my side.
  9. Thanks. But is it true that eventually, I have to win both those VPs in order to get total victory?
  10. Hey all, I read Didz' excellent observations on the Steam version of the forums on this battle...and as I was reading through it, one comment strikes me. Didz in the first phase secured all objectives, but in the next phase had all his troops punted back to the starting position. So is there any real point to capturing Orange Turnpike and Plank Road? I see they're listed as victory conditions, but couldnt I just keep my troops in a defensive posture in the first phase, so that way I'm not running to and fro and throwing away lives needlessly if I have to capture the objectives twice?
  11. Just saw the balancing patch from the devs. I had loaded up on 24 howitzers and 20 lbs parrotts...are they nerfed really badly?
  12. I didnt think about that. You mean attack Telegraph Hill from the rear essentially? How long does it take you to move your whole Corps around Marye?
  13. I don't know if there's a better way of doing this, but I've been dumping my spare brigades into a spare Corps that's not full of troops yet.
  14. Fred, thx. To be clear this is the southern edge of the map that youre talking about right? And isnt Telegraph Road the confederate center? Is it weaker than the battle intro advertises?
  15. I'm about to start this battle myself. Was wondering if Marye's Heights is as much as a fool's errand as it was in real life and if I should simply avoid/fix/demonstrate in front of the Rebels here.
  16. Finished 2nd Bull Run, and ultimately chose to go with the far left sweep. Lots of folks who called the fortifications weak were right. I was surprised how easily the first two sections on the far left fell. I believe it was Aetius who said that going from the bottom of the map to the top would sap condition...that was spot on, and my poor boys finished the battle with their tongues lolling. So on Antietam, I notice that the deployment calls for 3 Corps, but somebody in one of my threads said that you only needed 2. How's that? I was also wondering if I needed to fully flesh out my so far lagging 3rd Corps and get crosslevel some of my veteran brigades into my 3rd Corps from my 2 stronger Corps.
  17. Is this a bug? So we have the Sharps 1859 carbine for cavalry, presumably a breechloading rifle right? It has a fire rate of 100. But then you get to the "better" breechloading carbines like the Burnside, but the fire rates are much lower. Is the 1859 bugged, or are the better carbines bugged?
  18. Hmm so looking at the map, this appears to be the first time I'll really be assaulting fortifications. Can't remember another Union battle that had us attacking this large of a fortification set. Are they pretty thin fortifications and easy to rush in and punch through like the fortifications the Union has had in the past in defensive battle sets? Or should I be more deliberate and surround a singular set of fortifications with multiple brigades and massed artillery to force a breech that will get exploited by successive waves? I'm thinking a my-left against their-right flank sweep through the bottom of the map which will allow me to approach the VP under cover of the trees...
  19. Thanks Hitori! Plus the 2nd AO point for 2500 man sized brigades? So if I hear you correctly, put my best corps in the vanguard and seek to crush it on the 1st day?
  20. Hi guys, Gaines Mill and Malvern were great fun. Now I've got 2 extra Career points and 2nd Bull Run is up next (I haven't yet done the 2 minor battles). Looking ahead at 2nd Bull Run, the army layout is kinda confusing...there's 4 corps slots there and I only have 3 corps. Should I be chucking all my 2 points into Army Org? I'm currently halfway on AO, and if I dump 2 points there it will unlock 4 divisions per Corps and 2500 man brigades. Should I do that, and then beef up the Corps I intend to use for the "Main Army" slot to max capacity in men and then assign the 2 other corps to Vanguard and Rear Guard?
  21. Hi Hjalfnar...I think I know what you mean by holding the first river, but how do you defend the northern VP from the northeast rebel attack? Are you holding a continuous line?
  22. Hitori, on the strat you're recommending...if I move across the river into the treeline, isn't that treeline right underneath the crest of a hill? So wouldn't I suffer morale/damage penalties from being at the bottom of a hill?
  23. Rats, I was hoping it was like your specialization in the beginning of the campaign where you have to choose arty, inf or cav. That MG skill tier probably needs to be rethought then. Why wouldnt you always pick the infantry specialization as the vast majority of pretty much any corps is infantry?
  24. So dumb question but if I choose say the Artillery perk over the Infantry perk, do those bonuses only apply to my Arty units?
  25. You guys are awesome. Will work on 12 gun batteries.
