Decks are always stacked somehow, as in real life. Nobody promised equal chances for any nation. The map historic design itself guarantees loss of territories for Spanish, Dutch (Oranjestad), British (Windward islands) and others and BIG difference in gameplay for different nations.

As a captain of a Dutch nation and an active privateer I can complain on the density of Ports in Danish/Sweden/French waters. It's very hard to tag a trader there without being near forts or AI fleet. While bigger distances between Dutch/Spanish port allows easier privateering in these waters.

Map design also guarantees lots of fight for Danish/Sweden/French part of the map. It wasn't obvious who would ally whom but it was obvious there will be a fight. And initially French had advantage - a coal port (even before coal expansion) which they just decided not to defend.

My comment was also due to the fact the I don't remember a significant period of time in Naval Action without French complaining about this or that aspect of the game. No nation complains that much.

Devs implemented forged papers now. You can either stick and fight or change for the winning side. But the last thing to do is go to the forums and complain about how hard and unfair MMO game about age of sail can be.

Pathetic.  I forged papers to help France.  Not join the winning side.       Hopefully there will be forged papers for 1million or so to switch back as alliances are not in effect.       Update.   Forged papers will be able to be bought through admiralty in due time.     So stick with current nation and grind away.

Any chance on the ship knowledge tree that is more formal than what we have came up on our own?  Maybe even chance of that being reworked so it's not so much of a grind. There is no reason I have to grind through every ship below the ones I want to master and sail all the time.  Just way to much grinding in ships you don't want to spend time in.  Even World of Tank let you skip past tanks you didn't want once you unlocked one or two things, not the whole dang tank.

My ship is the Frigate and there is no way I am going to sail the basic cutter or the Cerberus or the darn brig.   I hate all 3 of these ships .  Just cant play it.  Wont enjoy and will never unlock more then 2 on my frigate.  Hmmmmm...      this has got to go or just eliminate our XP and start again.

  3. OMG.  one patch just wiped out the strategic resource of coal.    Did the British complain?    Now you just eliminated any reason to hold a port.   And cost me good coin.  What is the point now in this game?    at least for SPAIN.     That was a devastating patch for SPAIN.    So..  the empty port battles begin.

  4. This is ridiculous    This is insane.   I am not grinding on the basic cutter to level 3.  no way in hell.  So now...I cant get those extra slots.    This is insane.  Who is the ...who thought of this .

I would prefer you wipe my xp clean as its gonna take that long regardless but to force me to sail ships I cannot stand is in no way reasonable or just.  Its INSANE

Short feedback on the first impressions:

Some things are good, some are just screwed .... as  usual :D

Specially the economy needs to be fixed ASAP. The NPC are still selling Matrials / Resources cheaper than a player can produce it. Thats just wrong and game killing.

Here is a quick "how to" for a possible fix:

    • the whole economy (ship production) should be player driven
    • remove all NPC production of resources, materials, consumables and cannons
    • raise the amount of building slots up to 10 (8 might be enough though)

    === discuss ===

    Yeah..that too.      Love this idea.

I think that there are aspects of this new patch which will discourage new and casual players. The Devs have apparently decided to lean more towards realism at the expense of ease of play. That's absolutely fine but I believe that it will come at a cost. The number one objective of a game like this in a highly competitive market is to attract and hold new players. If learning the game is not made relatively easy it will tend to lose a significant number of new players who decide to go off and find something they can learn more easily. The game already suffers from a lack of guides and instructions, which is astonishing when you consider the amount of effort that has gone into its development. New players having to feel their way with very little help unless they discover You Tube which provides a lot of guidance  through contributors like Jeheil and OlavDrang but you have to spend hours watching these to work out how to play the game. It shouldn't be necessary to include third parties in the basic learning process. The game needs basic guides on sailing and fighting at least.

Given that the learning curve is already very steep I believe that the ability to hold new players will suffer as a result of the following changes.

    Removal of navigational aids

Change to combat missions so that low ranked players no longer have assistance

Removal of the Delivery and Tow functions.

I believe this latter issue also affects more casual players who play in one or two hour stints. While the seascapes are very pretty to watch with the sun rising and setting, sometimes you just don't have the time to do things the 'Real' way. While this approach may please the hard core realists in the playing community, if the game is looking for a wider customer base to increase player numbers then the Devs need to be constantly aware that this is a highly competitive market and the life blood of games like this is new players.

If however the Devs prefer a more realistic game that will attract mostly hard core players at the expense of new and casual players then that's fine, but that decision will probably have consequences in lower player numbers.

I will certainly play this game less than previously because I don't have the time to make all the long voyages necessary to trade, gather resources and move ships about.

Removal of Delivery and Tow functions was a big mistake.  I have time as I work while playing..watching 6 screens  (1 for this game).  So I can sail for 4 hours.  This must be implemented back into game or we will lose everyone.     And why should spain have to sail good ships all the way to south America to protect its ports when we are already there.    Playing SPAIN right now may have a lot but we must open like 8 outposts and sail across the map.     UGHH

Well, kept playing over the last 1-2 months, wanted to keep in practice for when the new patch came out.  Even tried the test bed server (lasted about 4 hours there and gave up--too many bugs, exited Charleston USA and ended up at the bottom of the map in French territory and just gave up, couldnt stomach the time it was going to take to sail all the way back.

So far in the current patch--ai ships sailing through land, missions where the crossed swords are on land, materialized on shore after the battle, sailed through the land to return to the sea.  Not a very impressive set of visuals...

Today, the mid ship missions are bugged, always end up facing 6th rate ships in my basic cutter.  Can't get out of the damned basic cutter as I can't do enough PVE missions due to being outclassed.  Sailed several hours to join up with allied players to attack ai enemy fleets....no pve points, no gold, nothing....basic cutter was too small to be effective, so huge waste of time today.

Tried crafting and selling goods....yep, I suck as a trader.  Lost most of my money.  Can't use the larger redeemable ships as I can't pay for the cannons....

So, too many bugs, too much wasted time, too little reward for the grinding effort.  NOT A FUN Game anymore.

A damn waste and a damn shame as it could be a great game, but I just can't stand wasting anymore time on it.

    Uilleam

So True.  Can you imagine what the newbies are going through.     It is sad as we all want this game to work yet the developers are bent on wrecking it.   Just the announcement of this patch was like a wrecking ball.

Yeah I will. I was really busy and put a lot of time into some business, so I was able to buy myself a Yacht. And thats what I am going to sail now. Not in the carribean sea, but in the baltic sea .... I gonna sail my 18m yacht in real life. Keep on wasting your time to be able to afford to loose some bytes and pixels. ;)

    AHOY!

Same     Though I sail around Cartagena.     Love my boat.  I have 2 water filled ballast chambers in case of extreme weather.     Fast too.

  9. Port Battles.

No Fix here.   Same .  In fact ..made it worse.   How?    Well.   Why should Spain try to defend some ports when most likely they will be outnumbered and that gives PVP marks to the winner.   No PVP marks for showing up.   So...most if not all port battles will be empty.

I wanted a way to have NPC ships in port battle that I could command to defend.   Maybe some sort of number of npcs based on some thing..

Currently..there is absolutely no reason to defend ports now except for maybe coal ports.

  10. I have 4 outposts (soon to buy 2 more), 2 buildings , outfitted all my ships.. bought snow and lynx.  and about to sell 2100 coal at capital for an easy 300k.    Its doable folks. Just like real life.  But yes.. 25k seed money would have been good for everyone.

The only thing i can say to all that complain about changes.

Why did you not participate on Testbed?

Okay coordinates where there on Testbed.

But all other things where there in the form they are now in the game or in a nerly same way.

So i think if you dont want in future to run with your Head agains a wall. Take some time go on Testbed and look at new things that get added to the game and make your suggestions befor it gets live.

Because I thought we were testing the game.  And stuff should be implemented in stages.   But apparently there was a testing game in the testing game and now one big patch and ...HERE YOU GO.

If the developers are listening.  I talked to some members of flying labs and they are interested in buying your game.   POTBS

Good list of changes and I eagerly wait for the ultimate live server wipe patch.

It's been a while but I can say it again, good job @admin. Time to prepare for glory.

What happy pill do you take Teutonic?    Swedes.   Giving us Ikea and Volvo.   Horse meat meatballs, vague instructions and stuff that breaks down fast.    Wait til the patch before you thank them.

Why a testbed in an alpha game?
Wipe quickly before there are no more players!

We will be happy to experiment all your changes in a single server until release. How can we test the game mechanics with just 50 players online? Make your choices as developers and leave some of the useless comments of some players, but do it quickly.
It's an extraordinary game (this is my opinion and my playing hours show it) but frankly I do not understand why you chose to change crafting and combat mechanics (I do not think the players base has made you specific Requests of this type, the requests were different).
However it is done now, and then continue on this road but try to hurry, and above all abandon the test bed and the three servers. Allow a few players to check the gaming mechanics on one server and do as many wipe as you want, do all you need to get as fast as possible to a release.
    Thank you for your work.

Yes.   Completely Agree.   Do this.. Do this NOW.

  14. Going backwards.  I am quite surprised to see less content for ship building.   I still personally think the developers got it right when they introduced fine woods but instead listened to whiners and dropped it.   I was accumulating fine woods so much that when they reversed this, I was almost a billionaire.  Then it became completely absurd as everyone could build a 1st rate in 2 days as apposed to weeks with fine woods.  Sure ..Compass woods does slow things down.

Combat mechanics , I think are good enough to release.   We all like the upgrades.  But now the developers want to scratch that and start new.  Strange way to develop a game.

I really want this game to succeed.  I personally think this game has huge potential but it seems the devs are just rewriting everything to a point of madness.   It makes me sad.  Such hope.

1 week ago - 'Ship wipe comming, get mats for new ships' now - 'everything gets wiped, no need for mats..'

    LOL

Yeah.  Made me waste valuable time.    This is the most insane development of a game in pre release I have ever been involved with.  This game could have been a top game with the graphics, sound and battle system.   But without players , this game is dead.    I was selling ships to get mats ready for the wipe and now its a full wipe way before release.  INSANE.   Make up your damn mind and stick with it.     Fine woods was good.   It made sectors more valuable and limited ship production.  Doh.   Geez.  At least have some sort of fund raising so that we can buy stuff and not waste time.   Money is no object for me in real life and in this game.  Time is valuable.   Stop wasting it for you to develop this game and keep changing it .  It is nowhere near time to release this game.

This is not a release, this is them doing a wipe so we can test things with a clean slate. Many folks are sitting on millions if not billions of gold and so much mats they have every can pump out first rates for weeks and not run out.  That doesn't allow us to test crafting and economics properly.  This will allow us to do so.  There will prob be another wipe when the game release later on.  Hell might be more than one if the Devs think they need it.

I agree on this and I will stand to lose a lot.   I was one of those pumping out 1st rates that sold in seconds.  But I refuse to grind that initial step.  You must give everyone a set standard of gold  (1 million seems right) and we can buy or make our own ships.  Don't give us ships.    I stand to lose 170million and 2 ports stacked and ready to pump out ships as I was told they were just wiping ships.      1  million in gold to everyone as we can open outposts,  get mats,  buy a good ship  or start trading hardcore.  But If you wipe all of it ..then I have to grind the worst part about becoming rich.  Its that barrier that I refuse to do again in real life and in game life on any game.   The newbies will be rich with 1 million but it will be peanuts to my 170 million , and 10k of every mats and 2ooo grade notes.   I cannot grind that initial bump in gold.  No way.
