  1. It has nothing to do with player skill. The way to prevent blowing up is to do literally NOTHING. Just act like it's not happening and it will automatically be put out. My guess is you're hitting 8, inadvertently turning off survival.
  2. So in that case, ships with a full top deck would have an advantage over those that don't? Example being a Connie vs Pavel. Connie would then have a lot more firepower with 12 12lb guns vs the Pavel's 2 6 lb guns?
  3. http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/11826-what-have-you-done-with-renonme/ I had done some speed tests with my Renommee the day before 9.65 came out. Re-did the tests the day it came out. Top speed at best angle dropped almost a full knot. The Trincomalee needing a nerf thread had people mentioning speeds being reduced. It needed it anyways. Biggest ship able to be fully crewed at rank 7, most heavily armed at rank 7, fastest at rank 7, 4 bow chasers. I hope they get a bigger nerf bat.
  4. I much prefer to fight a single pavel than 2 connies or worse, 2 Ingermanlands.
  5. The Royal Navy actually built their own heavy frigates (HMS Leander(1813), HMS Newcastle) to counter the US 44 gun frigates. Wikipedia alludes that this was done because even the older 64 gun 3rd rates lacked the firepower to take them on.
  6. They were absolutely reduced in 9.65. Noticed by players and confirmed by the developers.
  7. Lots of ships speeds were reduced in 9.65. Renommee and Trincomalee were absolutely reduced that patch. That chart is comparing 9.73 to 9.3, this isn't surprising.

Not if they are fighting other lower level ships. And must human controlled small ships run carronades anyways.
  10. Last night I was able to take down a St. Pavel with my Constitution. It was very challenging and I'm enjoying missions more and more. As mentioned many times, I would like to see it easier at lower levels. I saw multiple times in chat yesterday new players asking how it was possible to win. It was nice to see 3 of them group together for missions...until all 3 got wrecked by an AI privateer. I tried the fleet missions for the first time last night and really enjoyed them. Thumbs up.

Just did another fight, me in a Teak Constitution against an AI Essex. Guns penetrated when the ships showed flat side, and did not penetrate when angled. That's both ways. Penetration seems to be working fine for the larger guns. The concern was for smaller ones.

Please read my post again. The 50% pen rate was my 18lb longs against a player constitution. Which I'm not complaining about at all. But a different battle than what the screenshot is from. That screenshot is from MY constitution fighting 2 navy brigs. My shots against the navy brigs mostly penetrated. 1 24lb long failed to penetrate a navy brig as you mentioned. But look at their 6lb guns penetrating the live oak Constitution. THAT is what I'm concerned about. I was not aware the shot log was outdated.

After playing more, I'm thinking the 6 and 9 lb long guns might be the only ones that are bugged. Fought a player Connie in my Essex yesterday and his armor worked fine against me. 18lb longs only had about 50% penetration and did 300ish damage per broadside. 12lb longs had maybe 33% penetration. Range was relatively close 400 meters or so for most broadsides so I'd say these penetration values are reasonable. His 24lb guns did good damage and his weather deck 42 carronade punched right through, but that's expected. When I capped him, I discovered he was teak, which would have helped him bounce a few. HOWEVER, doing some lower level missions in my Live Oak Constitution I felt I was made of paper. I did an M&C mission against 2 navy brigs. Here's the screenshot of the first exchange: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393134538758/580CF48C7A92F18B7E18B27C403502B145DA525B/ Note the number of shots that penetrated from 6lb longs against a live oak constitution. Range was about 300-500 meters depending on the ship. I will also note the broadside I fired in the picture was enough to sink that navybrig due to leaks. However I did not get the kill for it despite it being a mission.

The more I play, the more I like the new AI. However I'm still concerned with new players and would still like penetration to be reduced a bit, especially for smaller calibers.

Will do, will try tonight. Thank you.

Yes, that is still working. Angling still works in our testing.

If a 10% bounce chance was removed, then another bug was created. Please check it. A friend and I dueled each other in Belle Poule's (well armored ship) last night. We started at close range (duel start range) and increased that range. Even at ranges where a large number of shots missed due to dispersion, the shots that hit almost always penetrated. We could not distinguish a difference between penetration values of the 12lb longs vs 6lb longs. The both penetrated the same (a lot). Again, please check the code as this now negates the need for armor whatsoever.

No, they are not. They are quitting. Here is my proof: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393127442581/33DFF169A442626F1F02CCC665745149E4EDAA1C/ US Prime time, 179 people online at PVP2. This is down 100 people from before the patch on an already dying server. Also, look at the chat. I had helped a midshipman who was getting steamrolled in midshipman missions. He was on the verge of quitting and actually mentioned "I probably would have refunded this if you hadn't come helped". Are refunds even possible? How many other new people have been turned away in the last few days due to getting steamrolled by AI? I've mentioned it in other threads that I actually enjoy the new difficulty of AI, but it is not conducive to retaining players.

Penetration has gone up WAY more than 10%. I'm still getting penned by 6 and 9 lb guns at any range in my Belle.

I had more fun last night with AI battles than normal. However I worry about brand new players. This game has a steep learning curve as is and it may be some time before they can take on an AI cutter. Time where they may just quit instead.

If your Connie is live oak, it should have over 7k hit points per side. Your actual armor is thicker too.
  22. FWIW, I hate gankers and see it as lame. I never saw the fun in getting 10 friends and jumping a ship. However, I feel the 1.5 BR is not effective in solving this. Today, about 10 pirates were ganking ships between Port Royal and Port Morant. They were still able to fight each other to hide in battle screen. If they hit a ship near the middle of the two towns, players in port were unable to help. In one of them, the 1.5 BR limit made it impossible for chase ships to join because some heavies that were closer joined first. So while the Brits outgunned the pirates, the pirates just ran. I appreciate the attempts to reduce ganking, but I feel this one doesn't work. I think a better way is for battle markers to never disappear until all ships have left battle. That way when I see a pirates vs pirates marker, I'll be sure to avoid that area. Or at least know their battle ratings. Ps. I never really saw the fun in this, Renommee was the only ship on the horizon when it tagged us. 23. Is this about AI skill or cannon penetration? Two different issues. If had it my way, I would keep AI skill where it is, but dial down the cannon penetration.
  24. I did some testing with the AI tonight. First was a basic cutter in a midshipman mission. I bought a basic cutter (PR happened to have live oak, no trim) and went into battle with the base 4lb guns and no upgrade. I was able to sink the enemy cutter with about half my hps left. I was trying hard in this battle and made sure to retain the weathergage so as not to expose my lower hull. On the way back, I saw a midshipman on a basic cutter so I messaged him asking if he needed help. Turns out he was headed to his first mission so I tagged along. It was another midshipman mission against a cutter. I allowed him to engage alone for the most part, but occasionally swooped in to give a broadside when I thought he was in a bad position. He did much better than I did in my first battle and it was clear he had played ship games before. By the time the new guy had about 10% hps, the AI still had 25% and was clearly going to win. I told him to back off and I engaged to finish off the AI so he would complete the mission. I finished off the AI, but had taken 4 leaks below the waterline. I had 20 out of my 38 remaining crew on survival and was flooding quickly. I probably got to 75% flooded before they stopped the leaks and it started going down. In my opinion these missions are WAY too difficult for a new player. I was happy to help him and he told me he probably would have attempted to get a refund (is that even possible?) had I not come along. Screenshot: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393127404217/8C15AC0008DBF665943B49F81A47D3F476D99EAF/ Last battle was a Post Captain mission in my Belle Poule. My BP is of exceptional quality made of Teak and Planking trim. I did not equip upgrades to help make up for the exceptional ship. The mission was against a Frigate, which I thought was a fair fight. His rounds seemed to penetrate me like butter, despite the decent armor the Belle Poule used to have. I won the battle with about 25% HPs left per side. I did not notice significant leaks in this battle. Screenshot: http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/280722393127405279/DCCC9B8CBBCB37BACB0AF3CE761A1F2A5279CD8D/ I thought this was ok, but feel the BP is a superior ship than the frigate in a duel. I'm thinking the AI can be toned down a little bit. Not nearly as much as the midshipman mission needs to be though.
  25. This was addressed by admin in another thread. They are fixing it in the next hot patch.
