Question: if you're following this approach and only using chain and grapeshot is it also a good idea to use carronades rather than cannons? You're going to be getting up close anyway especially as lower-level (all?) traders are not armed.

Agree that some 'ambient' life such as birds, whales, fishing boats, etc. would add hugely to immersion, it's the one obvious thing missing for me in both the open world and battle instances. However as the other poster has noted it's probably on the roadmap but down the priority list - hopefully coming soon.
