Even i'm curious... -
I would approve of 2 characters, only in the instance of 1 on the PVP servers and 1 on the PVE. Some nights i cant be bothered with the risk etc and enjoy the calming effects of the PVE server.

i found that this can happen if you have another person in the battle with you. Even after you have boarded it, it can get awarded to any of the players in the battle. Best thing to do is Capture it (pressing X) just to make certain that you will get it.
